Will Michael Vick have any fantasy value this season? (1 Viewer)

Clearly it matters where he signs. Backup to Peyton Manning? Not much. Starter in Minnesota? A lot more.
Way too late to be groomed as a starter "anywhere" at this point.I don't see any value at all realistically.
If Culpepper can come back and have at least SOME value (even if minimal) after joining a team in the middle of the year as bad as the Lions, then Vick can have some value if he signs with a team that doesn't have an entrenched starter. He's available on most WWs. To me, he's worth a pickup and see if he signs with a team like Minn or Buff where he has the potential to become the starting QB. Even if someone then throws a 2nd or 3rd round pick on him, it's a quick payment on a cheap investment. In other words, yes, there's a good chance he'll have SOME value in the near future. How much remains to be determined.

I think he could be productive at times , but it would be really inconsistent (barring an injury to a starter).

Depending on how he's used, I could see him being able to put up 8-10 fantays points/game without being a starter.

The problem would be that he'd put up way to many stinkers for a starting fantasy QB in most leagues.

The other problem is that I'm sure there will be one person in every league will be willing to overspend for him. There's upside if ther's an injury, but I don't see any value.

That's an entirely different circumstance. Culpepper wasn't away for 3 years and had the "freedom" to continue training and stay sharp as a passer, of which he is far better than Vick in that regard to begin with.

And this is the other problem. Is he worth a roster spot when you'll have to struggle with when to start him and when not to from week-to-week?Who wants to deal with that headache on a week-to-week basis? On top of all of the other decisions one will embark.

First, he's only missed 2 years, not 3. Yes, he last played 3 yrs ago, but if you phrase it that way, then every player now last played 1 year ago. So he's 2 years behind, not 3. Factor in that he's still only 29 and his game is predicated more on natural talent and athletic ability than it is on technical skills, then I would think he'd be able to get back into it. He won't immediately jump in, but the guy has been playing football all his life and didn't all of a sudden forget how.Secondly, Culpepper's play was very sporadic the previous 2 years and had actually retired. He was VERY rusty as he came in midseason and still obtained value. So, I don't see it as an entirely different circumstance at all as Culpepper hadn't had fantasy value for quite a while. Exactly the same? Of course not, but you can't always find an ideal match for every situation.

I'm simply saying that a guy that has the POTENTIAL to be a starter will oftentimes be viewed as having some value to SOMEONE. It only takes 1 person in the league to see Vick get signed by someone like Minnesota and get excited that he might do something and pay for it. If you have the room for a "cheap" flier before he signs anywhere, grab Vick off the WW. If you get something, great. If not, then oh well. But if he does indeed sign, there will be enough media hype and frenzy and speculation that he'll have value to at least SOMEONE in your league.

Much like Culpepper did last year when he came out of retirement to join the Lions.

"POTENTIAL" and "cheap" flier does not equal value. Value was the question from the OP.

Vick signed with EAGLES!
I know this is a Vick thread, but does this signing hurt the potential value of McCoy? I could see Vick being in some of the packages that McCoy might have been in. In other words, before the Vick sogning I could have seen some spread packages with both Westbrook and McCoy on the field at the samr time, now maybe Vick is in there instead of McCoy. Thoughts!

He could still have value with the eagles if he ends up listed at a position other than QB. As a QB he won't touch the ball nearly enough.

The only value I think Vick will have this year is by making one of your league-mates waste a roster spot on him.
