I think it goes without saying, barring some unforeseen injury, that by the time he retires, Peyton Manning will have many significant QB records. He will have a strong case for being the best QB ever, at that point (although what Tom Brady does the rest of his career will impact that).
However, if he never wins another Super Bowl, he will not be a multiple title winner like other guys often mentioned in the best ever discussion (Brady, Montana, Elway, Unitas, etc.), and not only that, he will have less titles than at least two other QBs from his generation (Brady and the winning QB of tomorrow's game).
Yes, football is a team sport, but perception means a lot, and many will also remember that, despite being the MVP of Super Bowl XLI, he really didn't play that well for the majority of Indy's playoff run (or at least his numbers don't look good, and that is what many will focus on). He does, however, have that awesome 2nd half comeback against the Patriots as a major feather in his cap.
So if this happens...if Manning never wins another Super Bowl, will it hurt his status when discussing his status among the all-time greats, and if so, how much?

Not sure why you're having so much trouble with this. Manning is one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game. And if there's five minutes left in the fourth quarter of a playoff game, everyone would rather have Brady. I'm neither a Pats fan nor a Colts hater, that's just obvious.
At least we agree on this.
