I think this is an old, tired, beaten to death subject not worth discussing.
I agree that this has been discussed before, but not in a while and Tomlinson keeps on producing year after year. When if ever will he surpass Taylor as for the right to the nickname?

It's a pretty lame nickname anyway. Your initials - ooooo how interesting. I can understand Taylor not wanting to be called Lawrence all the time, but still.

Ice Man, Nighttrain, Hacksaw, Ghost, Dr. Death - now THOSE are nicknames.

Why can't we just call him LaDainian? It's not like we'll confuse him with some other LaDainian. Or is it just because we're all too lazy and LT2 is easier to type?

PS. I voted for Taylor

I agree. We should call him ANAD for "all night and day"I voted Taylor as well.

(1) LT2 will likely be one of the best RBs ever to play the game when all is said and done. LT is THE greatest linebacker and considered by many to be the greatest DEFENSIVE PLAYER of all time. In addition, there have been few, if ANY players at ANY position (and maybe in any sport) that have changed the game as LT did. On a game to game basis, and in terms of how teams built themselves. Heck, LT changed how offenses played.

(2) LT was first. He was better (as great as LT2 is), and he was first.

Case closed.

Assume all of that is true, they can still use the same nickname.

CAN they? Sure. Should they? No. LT2 should get his own. He is good enough to have earned that. But he is not good enough to encroach upon LT's claim to the moniker.THIS IS SERIOUS BUSINESS FOLKS. :lmao:

Are you saying we should refer to an African American player as "Nighttrain" or "Ghost"? Then why don't you just go ahead and call him "midnight" or "spook" you racist?

Are you being funny or clueless? The nicknames he mentioned weren't meant as options, he was giving examples of actual nicknames of past players that he thought were cool. Night Train Lane and Ghost Casper were both white by the way.People use the term 'racist' far too often, and it often is a result of their own ignorance or laziness in understanding someone else.

:) Who are you - David Brent?

what do you think?
I think I'd like to see us go about three months or so without seeing a new thread on this terrible topic. Both players were/are way too good to ever have been saddled with something as boring as their initials for a nickname.

You've got to be kidding me. **** "Night Train" Lane loved the nickname. He got his nickname "Night Train" when he became a pro. When he played for the Rams, he would stop by teammate Tom Fears' dorm room when he heard the song Night Train playing on the record player. Others thought he got the moniker because they could hear him coming when they were getting ready to catch a pass.

They can use the same nickname - just like Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and Earl "The Pearl" Campbell. Everything is OK !
This had better be shtick.
I don't know what shtick is. I used to know, until I came here. Now it's a word for nearly everything.

How often do you confuse the two? There aren't too many conversations where people would not know which LT is being referred to.
I'd never confuse the two. I'd also never refer to "The Tyler Rose" as "The Pearl." I had never heard this in my life until about three months ago by some dope on this forum.

:lmao: :lmao: And I wasn't even fishing.

Boys, that comment was supposed to be so over the top that no one would take it serious. I even threw in a smiley for good measure.

Some of you cats need to get out more often.

So how about we come up with a good nickname for LaDainian then?

First up, I nominate "Flash." We could also nickname Turner "Crash" and Neal "Bash." Of course there would be some amongst you that would like to call Merriman "Trash", but what can you do?

Sign me up for the marketing department people - this stuff is gold, pure gold!

I vote for calling him "O" as in what your mouth/vocal chords sounds out when he drops a 60 yard run on your team. :o

Yeah right. You didn't use a smilie or wink or sarcasm, you used the angry emoticons. Now you are backpedaling. ;)

If he keeps it up for 3 more years, I will give him LT. For now it stays with Taylor (and I am an "RB guy," and Taylor was before my time, sort of.)

I think after Taylor has abused his body with drugs and what not he should lose his LT nick name. I mean that guy was a freak show for a few years with recreational stuff.

Tomlinson is a model citizen and has earned the right to take over that LT nickname. You think Tomlinson abuses his body on weekends or Sunday night? It should go to the better player but the better human being trumps it.

Besides when will they both ever come up in a conversation and the average football fan confuse the two?

I could see it, you're sitting around the water cooler at work.....

So Jim who's the best RB in the game right now?

LT of course.

Dude what are you talking about, LT played Linebacker for the Giants?

If you wanted to there's no way they both couldn't be LT IMO. The context will take care of it. And if you're arguing that, it's cause you think the LT name should go to the better 'person' too.

By the way...LT2 is just awful. I think in these posts if you throw up LT...we'll all know you're talking about the active player.

LT3 'blew' his chance.

 This is really the only opinion that is relevant. LT is beyond this discussion. LT2 is a phenom no doubt, but he has a lot of company at the top like Jim Brown, Payton, and Barry Sanders. LT is all alone at the top of the greatest linebackers ever to play. As a loyal Broncos fan I still remember him stopping Elway at the goalline in the SuperBowl. It totally changed the game and swung the tide in the favor of the Giants. I don't know of any other Linebacker who would have stopped Elway on that play but LT. As a Tarheels fan i still remember him playing at Carolina...jeez am I that old?
