Will there "ever" be World Peace in our time? (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
Eveytime I go to CNN or ABC News the top 5-6 headlines are war or terror related. Are things getting worse..or ever going to be better?

Or is this the way it is going to be from here on in?

Israel enter Gaza with tanks.

5 Car-bombs go off in Iraq.

North Kora firing missles

Japan thinking about striking N. Kora

Trains blown up in India..many dead.

Russia killls warlord.

Iran building A-Bombs.

Like all the novels and movies, I think space colanization will bring a peace agreement, though it will probably only be brief.

John Connor: We're not gonna make it, are we? People, I mean.

The Terminator: It's in your nature to destroy yourselves.

John Connor: Yeah. Major drag, huh?

When Jesus comes back.

Oh, wait...
No, you're right. It's ok. Be more confident in yourself there bucko.
I've read the book. His return is anything but peaceful.
Well sure, while the rearrangement goes on it's a little messy. But once the new paint is up and the furniture is in place, it's pretty calm.
 Forget it. He already came back once and look what that got us.. He is sending Daddy'O down to resolve it next time.

It is not within human nature to co-exist peacefully.

I mean hell, we beat the #### out of our WIVES. You think we are going to play huggy-nice with strangers that look and act differently than we do, and whose morality might run counter to our own?

We meaning the human race.I personally have never hit a women. Ever.

Sadly I know many women who have been hit, however. As a whole, we do bad things to people we are supposed to love - my point is what do you expect out of such a species when confronted with strangers?

Would someone please explain to me what exactly is their definition of "world peace"? I'm having trouble envisioning anything even approximating it in a world inhabited by human beings.

As for me, I'd go for a world that is largely devoid of innocent civilians being killed either through the overt use of violence or through indirect means like starvation. Anything more IMHO is unrealistic.

Not as long as there are at least two human beings on the planet.
"He's black on the right side and white on the left side. I'm black on the left side and white on the right side"

I expect soem people to behave badly and some to rise to the occasion. I would like to think that at some point the risers win.

We've had a few thousand years for the risers to take the title -- so far, nada.

There have been some successes but truly hate and violence are ahead on points. Doesn't have to be that way. But when we decide there is no chance then we are right.

For me, the definition is an end to war.

For a start, I would like to see one whole year on the planet without any army or military of any kind crossing another country's border to engage in battle with another nation's military.

you know what i do not think so and that makes me feel a lot sad i have seen a lot of bad stuff and it seems like it gets worse but the truth is it is the same crap different day people end up feeling pushed aside or putting a value on something that is meaningless but that ends up in war long story short we would all be a lot better if we realized that like my main man robert duvall who is awesome all the time said in broken trail we are all just travelers here from the sweetgrass to the packing house we travel between the eternities and then he saved some oriental gals good flick but hey long story short just get up and be good to eachother becase we are here for the blink of an eye in the big scheme of things and hey why not leave it better than you found it that is what i say take that to the bank brohans

Meh. World peace is overrated. Even if we got it, we'd f it up. People are just destined for conflict. It's in the DNA. So I recommend going full Viv Savage.

Which wars fit this description in 2013 exactly?

Hm, true, Afghanistan, South Sudan, and Syria come to mind, but those are not opposing national militaries.

Maybe we want something a bit more, right?

A cessation to large scale armed warfare?
