Williamson (1 Viewer)

I'm not a homer, but I'm also not really sure what you're asking.

Yes, he's been playing well.

If you're asking about the injury, it sounds like he will play.

From the news blogger a few days back:

WR Williamson Sprains Shoulder, Finished Game

Kevin Seifert, Minneapolis Star Tribune - [Full Article]

WR Troy Williamson landed awkwardly on his left shoulder after catching his first pass Sunday afternoon. He ran into the locker room, his arm dangling by his side, and emerged 10 minutes later wearing a harness. Despite the injury, believed to be a sprained shoulder, Williamson caught five passes in the fourth quarter and overtime. Williamson finished with six receptions for 102 yards, his first 100-yard receiving game in the NFL. QB Brad Johnson continued to look for Williamson in clutch situations Sunday.
And today:

WR Williamson, WR M. Robinson, Practice

Marcus R. Fuller, St. Paul Pioneer Press - [Full Article]

Vikings HC Brad Childress announced that WR Troy Williamson (shoulder), WR Marcus Robinson (hamstring), and OG Artis Hicks (shoulder) are questionable for Sunday's game. Williamson, who joined Robinson and Hicks at practice Wednesday, said he plans on playing against the Bears. But Williamson doesn't know if he will return kicks.
Or ... uh... ??

kings | Williamson practices, questionable for Week 3

Published Thu Sep 21 5:01:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Minnesota Vikings WR Troy Williamson (shoulder) practiced for the second consecutive day Thursday, Sept. 21, and is listed as questionable for Week 3.

Homer, and IMO there's no way he won't play.

I feel he is accepting being thrust into the #1 WR role (after KoRo got busted), and is busting his hump to prove he was worth the Moss trade.

yes, he had the dropsies on MNF, but I'm sure he was nervous.

He made some great plays vs. Carolina, and I don't recall him dropping one pass in that game.

I targeted this guy in my drafts and yes, I was disappointed to see those drops on MNF. (cost me a win)But I was thinking the same thing. Nerves. Pretty big stage right outta the chute.Looked better in the Caro game to be sure. Gets good seperation, and as they say, "you can't coach speed".This is the one guy I keep getting trade feelers on, but I'm holding and very optimistic. The only downside right now is childress seems quite content with the "keep it close and win with a FG."

I was very impressed with the "catch" that he made when he came out of bounds. This was the type of ball that I didn't think he could catch...the jump ball deep pass. He adjusted well and made the catch, just landed out of bounds. That catch made me a believer in the kid, he can do it all!!

Per KFFL:

Sep 21 Judd Zulgad, of the Star-Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings WR Troy Williamson (shoulder) expects to continue returning kickoffs for Week 3. Williamson hurt his shoulder while playing on offense Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers. Special teams coordinator Paul Ferraro indicated RB Mewelde Moore would return kickoffs if Williamson can not play. KFFL
I have him on my team, but I am going to sit him because I think the Bears ST will limit his return yds.

No homer here, but I own Brad Johnson. Williamson can't catch!!!
So we now know that you only watched one of his games thus far.
True. Living in NY, I only saw the one nationally televised game. But, I have seen about 37 shows discussing his stone hands and shoping clips of how bad his hands are and if only he could catch......But your right, he's got great hands as clearly evidenced by the game I didn't see.

Well if 1 game was enough to convince you he didn't have good hands, why exaclty is it so outlandish that one game could also prove he does have good hands?

Williamson caught 6 of his 7 targets (86%) in week 2 after dropping 2 passes in week 1.

37 shows discussing his stone hands might have been wrong.

:goodposting: And like I mentioned before, the one that he didn't catch, he caught and actually had his feet in bounds, but his hand landed out of bounds first before the feet came down. Pass on him and you are missing something special.

Personally, I would like Minnesota to take him off of special teams, altogether.

Too much injury risk, plus, I'd like to see him save his energy for offense.

If Williamson is going to become an elite receiver (which I feel he could), they need to let him concentrate on being a wide receiver.

my bet is moore takes over the kick returning duties in a few weeks.. williamson is too valuable at wr to have him returning kicks

Despit what Joey Thiesmann said, he shoulda caught that ball that hit him in the grill.
Heres a vid
Yep, it's the last one I'm talking about.
When Williamson's a top ten NFL and fantasy receiver, we will all fondly remember his first prime time game and how he dropped a few passes. It'll remind us all that he is human, after all.

One good thing...if he breaks his fingers like TO, he shouldn't miss any time. Does he ALWAYS catch with his arms like that? They're teaching my son's 7-8 year old team to catch with their hands better than that.

No way, the return yards are what makes him a top performer on my team. He had 9pts from returns week 1 , and 7 pts in week 2, combined with his receiving yardage, he's been putting up a solid 17 pts a week, now he just needs to add some TD's.I think that you are right, that they will eventually take him off of return duty.

I have Williamson as my 3rd WR on a few teams and love it! I think he'll break top 20 WRs this year and maybe even top 15.

Top 10? Sure, anything's possible, but how can you go wrong with this guy as your 3rd or 4th WR? You can't.

I'm nt sure I want t start him against the Bears anyway.I think I would rather go with Keyshawn,#### I don't know.

What is the latest on this guy?Is he worth a roster spot as a #3 WR?
yes. any #1 NFL WR easily justifies a #3 FF WR.
My problem is that he has shared limited targets with Taylor, etc. such that he is not a valid #1NFLWR comparable to other teams.Factor in his sad lack of ball-catching skills and his sorry route running and what you have is the fantasy football equivalent of schmegma.I can say this as a former (reformed) Williamson owner. :D

I agree Williamson has exhibited brick-hands. I can't comment on the routes because I haven't watched the Vikes, but I don't know about the limited targets. He shares the same number of targets with some notable names, I'll be the first to say that doesn't translate to the same success, but it's not like the guy isn't getting opportunities.*********************** targets recpt % yds tds32 Jackson, Darrell (WR) (SEA) 39 26 67% 387 433 Wayne, Reggie (WR) (IND) 39 21 54% 382 134 Moss, Randy (WR) (OAK) 39 17 44% 222 235 Brown, Reggie (WR) (PHI) 38 21 55% 412 436 Williamson, Troy (WR) (MIN) 38 18 47% 256 037 Williams, Reggie (WR) (JAC) 37 25 68% 296 438 Fitzgerald, Larry (WR) (ARI) 37 24 65% 331 239 Ward, Hines (WR) (PIT) 37 18 49% 207 240 Toomer, Amani (WR) (NYG) 36 26 72% 307 3

Fanball has three more targets than brednbuddah's list:

Week, Throw To, Receptions

Week 5: 4 2

Week 4: 9 2

Week 3: 10 4

Week 2: 7 6

Week 1: 11 4

Total: 41 18

I cut bait last week.

I didn't think he would have a big year this year because it's only his 2nd and he was RAW coming out of college - he never learned to run routes because his QB's were terrible. However, his hands aren't as bad as he has shown so far and he's not the first WR to have trouble catching the ball early in his career - someone like Antonio Bryant comes to mind.

The vikings schedule the rest of the way looks like a struggling WR's therapy. Pass defense softies (teams in the bottom half of total pass defense)include:

Oct 22 @Seattle 4:15pm

Oct 30 New England 8:30pm

Nov 5 @San Francisco 4:05pm

Nov 12 Green Bay 1:00pm

Nov 19 @ Miami 1:00pm

Nov 26 Arizona 1:00pm

Dec 3 @Chicago 1:00pm

Dec 10 @Detroit 1:00pm

Dec 17 N.Y. Jets 1:00pm

Dec 21 @Green Bay 8:00pm

Dec 31 St. Louis 1:00pm

I like Williamson's upside with this schedule.
