Willie Anderson Retires (1 Viewer)

Good luck Big Willie. One of few bright spots for our team over the last decade. One of the best Bengals of all time, and a very gracious man in person. War Eagle.

Behind Munoz, Anderson and Esiason, probably the 4th best Bengal ever.

Based on above (and with the implication that Esiason's number was higher), Ken Riley would be 4th and then Big Willie.-QG
Carl Pickens anyone?
Pickens was a good receiver (one of many good receivers we've had - that's really been a franchise bright spot).Anyway I was going strictly by the Numbers in Chase's link.

From same here are the top 4 Receivers btw (TEs are lumped in with WR, hence Trumpy):

RC Chad Johnson 73

RC Isaac Curtis 67

RC Cris Collinsworth 65

RC Bob Trumpy 64

In terms strictly of WRs, all 3 were better than Pickens IMO.

Anyhow, I think it's too bad there haven't been more props for Big Willie in here :deadhorse:

why was anderson under appreciated? Last year when they cut him...sure but I mean otherwise.

Seemed to me everyone knew he was good and Rudi and Corey did well running behind their line

How come you guys didn't mention Darnay Scott?

That guy seemed to catch a bomb for a TD every 2-3 weeks which had to be fun to watch.

None of the honors he received came his way until 8th season - he was definitely worthy of them sooner than that. It is true that he got better recognition late in his career but I think on balance he didn't get the credit he ultimately deserved-QG

I think most people thought of him as one of the top tackles in the AFC and perhaps the best RT in the game. Were expecting him to be canonized?

I don't disagree he could have received more, 8 years til he got credit seems too much but nonetheless.....he played for the Bengals. It's no secret that winning also brings with it some added awards and notoriety. If you look at the Lions now, that's how Cincy was when they hired Lewis-on their way to respect. If not winning, then they were going to definitely get respect. The shine has really worn off Lewis and even the whole franchise. Few franchises could boast of the WRs and RB and QB production they could for like 4 years or so. They had depth too. When it started to fall apart(pick a reason, not all arrested) where was their character? their perseverance? It was so super quick that they were the same ol' Bengals and not this new different breed of Bengals. I know it's not going to be popular here but if Willie wanted more notoriety he should have played elsewhere when his contract was up. If Willie were a Patriot the last 6 years this thread would never be.QG as a Bengal fan, am I really wrong here?

I don't think Willie was worried about his notoriety, but I still think my assessment is fair  -QG
