Parker, Willie PIT RB at Cardinals

4 4 Receptions

3 37 Rushing Yards

2 29 Receiving Yards

Didn't see a topic on this. Didn't see the game. What happened?

Are we looking at possibly sitting FWP when he's not at Heinz Field? Any info or discussion is appreciated. TIA

arizona run defense has been good all year.

shut down frank gore basically did the samething with shaun alexander minus a few long runs at the end of the game.

i wouldn't worry about it.

FWP always blanks a few games.
He was due for an off game, I think. He's been notching 100+ yard games consistently. I'm not going to worry. I'd like his TD's to increase but that's quibbling on my part. He was against a stout run defense while the passing game was hindered some by Ward's absence. He will be fine.

This is the part that worries me around here. I have Henry and Parker and they are avoiding the end zone like the plague right now. Is everyone around here in performance leagues and not 50/50 or TD heavy leagues? I'm in a 50/50 league and not getting TD's out of these guys every week is killing me.

Steelers faced a part of their former coaching staff. The Cardinals rush defense is not that bad and, historically, the Cards are tough/tougher at home. Combine the two and the Steelers had a difficult time moving the football yesterday. Don't think there is any reason to panic.

Arizonas run D has been pretty good and the Steelers never seemed to get going. The thing that concerned me were the few big losses. He had a couple -6 and I think one -8 yard rushes...and I dont get that. What was he doing back there? If the hole isnt there, there is no reason to run backwards. If he lines up 5 yards behind the line of scrimage and gets the handoff 2-3 yards behind the line, how does he lose 6 or 8 yards unless he is dancing around in the backfield.

Big Ben was also picked in the endzone when they were on the TWO yard line. At least they gave the ball to Willie the first time...but then decided to throw it.

Imagine how Maroney owners feel. Najeh isn't stealing meaningful carries from FWP. He'll get on track with TDs, especially as the cold weather games usually mean run-heavy gameplans.

These things happen. I own Willie in 3 leagues and I am not sitting him other than the Bye week.

Arizona sold out to stop Parker - they run blitzed relentlessly, and Roethlisberger was unable to punish them for it. No RB could have done much against Arizona yesterday.

What happened was the Cards kicked the crap out of the Steelers at the LOS. You have to give credit to them, the simply played better yesterday in the trenches.

I do think Pitt could/should have gotten more creative in their play calling and taken more shots down the field to Holmes (who seemed to get open at will) and spread the filed more with 4 wide sets or some screens. But you can't take it away from Arz that they played very well. Parker just didn't have anywhere to run.

The -8 is when Ben pitched when he should have handed off. Parker covered up the fumble. -8. Another -6 was another fumble cover-up.

Not Monday morning QB'ing, but one of the reasons I didn't draft FWP in the 4th slot was that he does have a tendency to disappear in several road games. At home he's always a beast, but in half the road games he throws up very iffy #'s every year.

The Cardinals actually have a real D. They have played four top backs, three of which were top 7 picks in fantasy drafts this year. Here are the rushing numbers:

Gore: 15 - 55

Alexander: 18 - 70

McGahee: 21 - 98

Parker: 19 - 37

That's pretty darn good, especially for the Cards.

If I didn't know better I would have swore that Whisenhunt was calling the plays for the Steelers. The Steelers team that showed up is the exact team that played last yr. Give up big plays on Special Teams, defense cannot stop the other team on 3rd down and very predictable play calling on offense. Tomlin and Arians got outcoached very bad. Where was the pass to set up the run and no huddle offense? That part of the playbook was left in Pittsburgh I guess.

 Another factor was that Nate Washington started in place of Hines Ward. There were two runs that Willie broke to the outside and had only one man to beat. In both cases Washington did not block his man -- if that was Ward out there you could probably add another 25-30 yards to his totals.

Whiz coached a better game than Tomlin but the Steelers made a lot of mistakes on the field which had nothing to do with coaching. Had the players executed correctly, the Steelers probably win the game.

There are VERY few running backs you can throw out the matchup and road/home and count on them to put up big games. Parker isnt that. Then again we figured LT2 and SJax would be. It looks a like Addai and Westbrook (when available) are the guys that can do that thus far. Lesson- multidimensional backs are a good thing.

Something else- Parker is good because he has very good patience and a huge burst. He could be GREAT if he learned to recognize that split second between waiting for the hole and saying screw it, lowering the shoulders, and getting whatever yards he can. Watch Edge play, he is amazing at that and its easy to see why he was such a monster in his prime- he rarely loses yardage and he has a talent for falling for 3 or 4 (or 7 or 8) yards on a busted play. Thats just instinct. I think Parker has has so much success waiting for the hole to open that he tends to miss out on the sure couple of yards that can really set you up on first down. That may be disapointing in the first quarter, but when the defense thinks they have you stoned on first and 10 and suddenly its 2nd and 6, that takes it out of them. Keep that up and by the second half you start busting em as they overpursue and get tired.

Parker to his credit doesnt lose many yards, but if he could have squeeked out a few more in the 1st quarter against Arizona it could have really changed the complexion of the game. Denver has always preached this- 2nd and 7 can be a beautiful thing.

This lack of production was more about AZ being prepared w/former Steeler staff preping an up and comming D as opposed to FWP---although I aggree he struggles on the road against tough run D's...the question is do you bench a stud playing on the road in favor of a better match up w/an RB3 or 4?and secondly, I'm curious who you took @4 over Parker--was it Gore?
