Winslow to TB for undisclosed draft picks (1 Viewer)

I thought that the Bucs were set with Alex Smith, who I really like. But this gives them a much needed playmaker on offense. Now we just need a QB to throw him the ball...

Good pickup for Tampa. Anyone else think Brady Quinn might be disappointed? He seemed to lock in on Winslow last year...at least from what I saw of him.

Interested to hear what picks are involved. First thought though is that I like this move for Tampa too.

If I was a young starting QB, I'd be very upset about losing a quality pass-catching TE (although it's no secret the guy was probably not real popular - maybe moreso with the organization than the locker room though).

Yeah, Winslow is ultra talented. Headcase, but he gives it his all on the field and plays thru pain. It's always been when, not if, the Browns ditched Winslow. If this is where the new regime thinks they can maximize his value, then I'm not suprised by this. He's probably not going to have a long career.

Who blows up first? A. Bryant or Winslow?

Should make looking for a QB in TB really fun. I'd love to be in that locker room after a loss when a couple guys thought they didn't get the ball enough.....

Everyone says the guy has knee problems, and I know hes had work done... but the past 2 yrs he hasn't missed a game due to his knees.

Combine his knees with a likely new contract and I'm thinking the Browns made the right decision to rid themselves of Winslow.

Bye Kellen. Don't let the door hit ya...

Cleveland Browns trade Kellen Winslow to Tampa Bay for draft picks

The Browns have traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Buccaneers.

CLEVELAND -- The Browns have traded tight end Kellen Winslow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks.

Winslow made the Pro Bowl in 2007, but ran afoul of the organization in 2008 and was considered likely to be traded by the previous regime. The new management team of General Manager George Kokinis and coach Eric Mangini obviously agreed it was time for the 2004 No. 1 draft pick to move on.

In a prepared statement, Kokinis said, "The Cleveland Browns thank Kellen for his contributions to this organization over the past five years. We appreciate his passion for the game and wish him success in Tampa Bay. The draft picks we have obtained through this deal will give us greater flexibility as we look to infuse more talent and create competition and depth on this football team."

Before the trade, the Browns were without picks in the third, fifth and seventh rounds.

Wow, surprised a little bit by this. Interested in the picks. Thought I had read somewhere that the Browns weren't overly impressed with Rucker, but wouldn't seem so.

Yeah. The guy wasn't happy anyway. Sometimes new coaches just need to make a statement, clear the air. I'm actually happy for both sides. Winslow has too much baggage with that organization. Maybe he's matured and can use a fresh start. Like the others, I'm curious to see exactly what picks they got for a former 1st rounder.

A league source tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he doesn't believe Browns TE Martin Rucker will be able to cut it in the NFL.Rucker, who the Browns traded up for in 2008, dealt with knee issues in his first year and couldn't pass Darnell Dinkins on the depth chart. He only caught two passes in five games. There's no reason to think Rucker will be able to replace Kellen Winslow in 2009. Look for Winslow to return to Cleveland.Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

Get rid of two great Seminoles, Dunn & Brooks, and possibly bringing in two Canes (if we land Vilma). As a Nole, can't say I like that.

I would guess it would be a 2nd and a 4th...?

Time to play GM. What picks would you want in return for Winslow?

Thanks. Glad to know I'm not crazy. :bs:

So what's this do for Winslow's fantasy value. Team situations look similar. Guess it might drop him a touch because of the unknown of going to a new team.

Add me to the good for Winslow and good for Tampa contingent. Winslow has been a quality player despite the motorcycle accident injuries, and the relationship with the Browns soured last year. He seems like he could really be invigorated by a change of scenery. Tampa has a vacuum in the target pecking order with Galloway and Clayton gone, and Winslow can work the middle of the field for whatever inexperienced or retread QB ends up starting in Tampa.

Cleveland had to do it. Shockey fetched a 2nd and 5th, Winslow is worth at least that, yet a 1st this year doesn't feel quiet right - wouldn't shock me, but something like a 2nd and next year's 3rd feels closer to the real price.

Tim hasselbeck from ESPN is reporting that it's a 2nd and a 3rd rounder. if that's thecase that's a great deal for Cleveland.
That's a great deal for Cleveland.
Yeah, I could see them being happy about that. I just wonder if they're in the same year. For a team/coach looking to build, seems pretty good to me. Other guys have gone for a lot less.

:( At first it did not sound good for Winslow owners, after more thought if TB gets a quality QB, good news (not likely) and with a weaker caliber QB they tend to lean on their TE.

I think that Tampa could've spent that 2nd and 3rd in other places, only because I'm high on Alex Smith. But the Bucs definitely need another legit pass-catching target. So, assuming we get a decent QB in here, it could work out. Definitely need a DT still though...

Some pretty good TE's out there this year in the draft. I like it for Cleveland in the end. They can now use that money and grab something else instead that the team can use.

Maybe they should have tried to get Coles, after all, he is better than Andre Johnson. :o

The front office must like this year's receiving TE draft class as much as I do. C'mon James Casey! :bag:

If it's a 2nd and a 3rd my entire faith in this organization will be destroyed. With so many problems and after cutting 5 players yesterday, all with significant playing time, to give up a 2nd and 3rd for a TE (the one position we actually have some talent at) would be absolutely insane.

Schefter just mentioned on TV rumors that the picks were a 2nd this year and a 5th next year.

I agree these draft picks are pretty valuable, but Winslow is an elite TE. You can't get guys like him that often, so if he agrees to restructure it's not that bad.I expect us to get either Vilma or Boley, and a few more guys. We really need help on the D-line, but if Haye & Hovan are 100% healthy it will help. Also, Vilma is a good run stopping LB.

Sure he's elite. When he's healthy and happy. Will he be that way here? Who knows. No way is he worth a 2nd and 3rd. Right now, the front office has made it very obvious that we are in a rebuilding phase. I sincerely doubt that Winslow will be a player that spends the rest of his career here in TB. If he's going to be gone in a few years, what's the point of getting an elite TE now when there is no talent around him? Those picks could be used to get us players that we can develop and bring talent to the team in a few years where we can start a real run rather than being knocked out at the beginning of playoffs/end of the season.I'd love to be wrong and have Winslow hang around and really help us, I'm just worried that we gave up too much.

WowWelcome to fantasy relevance Martin Rucker
As a Browns fan...I hope this works out. I hear good things about Rucker. Winslow is a really good TE, but his mouth/ego/attitude is too big for my taste. As a Kellen Winslow FF owner who drafted Rucker b/c he was worried about Kellen's injury history...very nice.
Call me crazy, but I think the 2009 bump is for Heiden. We'll have a better picture after the draft and I think we have much bigger needs than TE.

Just watched Winslow's PC on Buccaneer.com. He appears to be pretty optimistic. Didn't say anything too surprising. Pretty much what I expected.
