Winter Sports - PA peeps (1 Viewer)

SUPER ELITE UPPER TIER
I've always wanted to go snowmobiling. But I'm not really sure where to go do it. I also would love to go cross country skiing. But don't know if that's something you go to the mountains for where they have trails along with normal skiing.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm new to the whole winter sports thing but want to try it. I assume the Poconos is the place to go. So if I wanted to take the family up there to go snowmobiling and cross country skiing, what should I be looking for? Or does anyone have any first hand recommendations?

Any suggestions or advice is highly appreciated.

Poconos are the obvious answer. They have what you're looking for all within a relatively small distance from each other.

Yeah, I found these links, too. But they seem to be for people who already have a snowmobile or cross country skis. I was looking more for a place that rented the equipment as well as had the place to use it. Kind of like how you'd go normal skiing. I just don't know if that's a real thing.

I would bet the towns near those Pocono areas would have places that rented Cross Country Skis. This is lots of fun, hills are not required, in fact make it more difficult, and is an awesome workout.

Yeah, that's the thing. I've found a bunch of places that rent the skis. But I was hoping to find a place that had trails.

I remember as a kid seeing a picture in a magazine for Michigan tourism. It showed people cross country on what looked to be a well used trail. I just always assumed that they had trails for CC skiing like they have trails for downhill skiing. But I have yet to find them.

Check with Parks and Downhill Ski areas, they might have CC skiing too.

Here is a site.

A third.

Looks like we are heading up to the Poconos to ski this weekend. It'll be my 4th time skiing/snowboarding. So my goal for the weekend will be not to break any bones. I put the chances of no broken bones around 20%. Major injury chances probably around 85%.

Just don't drink BEFORE you ski. Save that for after and you'll be fine.

We've gone to the Crystal Lake Ski Center in Hughesville for XC skiing several times. Its very nice and reasonably priced. They rent skis and maintain the trails with two deeply carved grooves for you to follow. Its very easy for beginners (other than a few of the downhill sections). The have a cafeteria where you can buy homemade soup/sandwhiches or you can bring your own food/drinks.

Afterwards, we always stay at the Eaglesmere Inn. Its about a half hour away. The food is excellent and they have a package deal which includes dinner and breakfast. I always tell people about their bacon. Its cured and smoked on-site and just melts in your mouth. Easily the best bacon Ive ever eaten and literally worth the drive just for it alone. Another awesome attraction in Eagles Mere is the toboggan run, but looks like they're not building it this year due to the warm weather.
