Derrick Ward may have just made himself a bunch of money tonight. He's a UFA in '09, & if it were me, I'd go get my payday. I don't believe that'll happen with the Giants. They've got Jacobs to deal with, as well, & he'll likely be their priority (right or wrong).
Several teams could really use Ward's skills. It wouldn't surprise me if somebody wanted to make him their feature back. Very good all-around RB, IMO
Not interesting, stupid. It looked like Stewart and Williams alternated series. But, Stewart gained 29 yards on 9 carries, while Williams was gashing the Giants. He is your best player, there is no reason he shouldn't be on the field in the 4th quarter when they need to run out the clock, in the 4th quarter when you need to score to win, and in overtime when you need to score to win. Stewart wasn't performing like Ward, who forced Coughlin to keep Jacobs on the sideline. Fox made a mistake in sticking to his "alternating series" strategy. It was a mistake by Fox to keep playing Stewart & it was a mistake that may have cost them not only home-field throughout the playoffs, but the 1st round bye and their division, as well. With Atlanta's win today, Carolina could lose the division. If Atlanta beats StL next week, and Carolina loses to New Orleans, both teams will be 11-5. 1st tiebreaker is Head-to-Head & the two teams split their season series. 2nd tiebreaker is won-loss % in the division. Both teams would be 3-3 if Carolina loses to NO. 3rd tiebreaker is won-loss % in common games-both would have a 9-3 record if Carolina loses to NO next week. 4th tiebreaker is won-loss % in the conference. With a loss to NO next week, Carolina's conference record would be 7-5, and with a victory over StL, Atlanta's conference record would be 8-4.
