Yet he could read defenses and became an NFL hall of famer.....hmmmmm that wonderlic test must really be a good determining factor.......Just like the guy portayed in that one college football movie who couldn't read but he knew every defensive scheme and every coverage within seconds of seeing them on the screen. I think there is a big difference between being book smart and play book smart.

OK, I'll give you that. My man love for Vince Young aside, many other QB scored craptastic scores on the wonderlic and still did ok. Randall Cunningham got a 14, Dan Marino got a 15. Kurt Kittner scored a 30+. Who would you rather have? Kittner or Marino? Pretty easy answer there.....

The report I read said that a score below 10 means the person is illiterate. If this is the case I think there should be a full investigation into the University of Texas. How can an illiterate person still get into college in this day and age? Culpepper had to go to a garbage school because he wasn't smart enough to get into a real college. He also took the wonderlic three times and maxed out at 15.

even if he has a learning disability, do you want a qb to have that?maybe the reason why he's so good in clutch situations is because he's too stupid to understand the gravity of the situation.

I remember hearing from John McClain on 610 about two years ago that the reason Texas went slowly with Vince Young (he did not start immediately after his redshirt year) was that - and he chose his words carefully- he had a severe learning disability, particularly with reading. He hinted that he ws dyslexic. He had a hard time with the volume of the playbook. Also, for what it is worth, being illiterate means that you cannot read. It does not make you stupid. There are plenty of people on this board who read and write, but are rather stupid.

I don't think is incredibly significant if he goes to the right team. Larry Bird was no rocket scientist, but he had a very high basketball IQ and great vision. If a team has a QB coach/assistant that works with him on the playbook, and the studying is devised to understand the book in a way other than simply reading/memorizing- he can succeed. They team may have to higher a learning specialist to determine the best way for him to disseminate information. If they dump a playbook and say "Figure it out- you are a pro now" then he will likely be a bust.

I think the major questions that teams should have about him are whether he can read NFL defenses, make appropriate audibles, and go through his progressions. And whether he can do some of the things he never had to do at Texas like he will in the NFL... things like take a snap from under center, turn his back to the defense to do a play action fake, then turn back around and make a quick read as to what the defense actually did post-snap and use that knowledge to find the open guy.If that was the biggest question mark about him, this news would only increase VY's level of risk.

I still don't see him falling out of the upper half of the first round, and won't be surprised if he goes top 5 even if PFT's story is true.

I don't know if these things are true. I did hear them about two years ago. Prior to last season, I doubted VY could be an NFL QB. However, it is important to realize that there is a difference between being able to read a defense and being able to read a book, particularly today with video editting and computers. The team who drafts him may have to set up video clips to teach him the plays rather than hand him a playbook. I am an art professor. There are many students who are incredibly gifted in terms of making visual images, but cannot write or talk about them effectively. I think Vince is gifted enough with football intelligence to succeed. However, it will likely take him a bit, and he will need to work with the right people.

I do too, but a 6 is the lowest scoreI've EVER heard of. IIRC, Frank Gore got a six but it was mentioned that he has severe learning disability.

If he really did get a 6, maybe Vince Young has a learning disability also.

Well, I don't think people are generally jealous of Texas, but for a state that you guys are putting down there sure are one hell of lot of people moving here from other states.Hell, here in Austin you can't even turn around anymore without bumping into yet another person that has just moved here from out of state.

Kind of makes you wonder why people are flocking here in droves with it being such a crappy place. And why they aren't leaving in droves once they get here and see just how bad it is. Maybe we are just getting the really stupid people from other states?

I think it's funny people try to justify VY's capabilities by saying "marino only got a 16" or by comparing him to some other good/decent qb who scored low on the test. But you fail to notice/realize/care that these low scores by those qbs are still 2-3 times his score I don't care about VY either way but i'd still want a qb who understood the ish going on running my team...but that's just me

People move there cuz it's a cheap market right now. Everyone was moving here (to az) for a long time, but now it's getting to where you need 2 decent incomes to buy a house so our growth is slowing down. lol @ you impressed with your population boom when almost every other state's boom is ending. All it took was sky high housing/living expenses to get people to move to that desolate lump of dirt

Things do not appear to be going well at the NFL combine for former Texas quarterback Vince Young, once thought to be the top pick of the draft, has seen his stock tumble to where one scouting service ranks him as no better than the sixth-best quarterback in the draft. Now comes a report that Young scored 6 on the Wonderlic personnel test, which is given to all prospects at the combine. To put this in perspective, only one person in 100,000 scores a perfect 50. Harvard's Pat McInally (1975) is the only prospect to ace the test at the combine. The average score for a player at the combine is 19. The average score overall — hundreds of corporations use the Wonderlic — is 21. But a score under 10 is an indication of literacy problems. Former Iowa State running back Darren Davis reportedly has the record for lowest score, a 4. Former Florida State kicker Sebastian Janikowski reportedly got a 9. If Young did do this poorly, it will be another knock on him.

You would think that if Vince Young had an agent with an ounce of foresight.  He would have insisted that VY write a practice exam before the combine.  After all this will cost him a major chunk of change as well.

No it wont. VY draft status will not change. I would put money on it. Even if this story is true. That test means very little to anyone's success.

Second, I don't understand why everyone is jumping to conclusions. Everything seems to be based on this one story. Let's remember how well the "mainstream" FF media covers this stuff. IIRC, Michael Vick had to deny a story that he was gay and CBS Sportsline wrote that someone had been in a plane creash based on one of those swellserver things where you plug in a name and an outlandish story about them is created.
