Weapon of Mass Instruction

Watch my feet!
Yes, another Vince Young thread. Get used to it. :excited:

Anyway, my son and I flew to Houston for the game as our annual father/son game. Huge Titans fans and, obviously, it exceeded expectations. The tamales were great, hospitality was awesome.

To the game. Here are some random observations:

Those people love 'em some Vince Young. Holy cow. He's the black Jesus down there. Not real good at estimating, but I'd guess that at least 30-40% of the hometown crowd had either Titans or #10 Texas Longhorn jerseys on.
With equal fervor, they hate Bud Adams.
I have never seen people more livid than the Houston fans at passing on Vince. First, they didn't get him. Second, Bud Adams did. They are just about to blow their tops down there. I really wish I could link you to an archive of the talk radio I heard in Houston this weekend.
Vince is very surreptitious. He almost lulls the defense to sleep. Play to play, you just don't see it. A little here, a little there. A false sense of security, I'd say. Then -- when it is all on the line and his back is against the wall -- BOOM, you're dead.
Tennessean asked for headline suggestions. Here are a few, the first couple I thought were great:-- Vinny Vidi Vici -----That one just cracks me up.

-- Vince wrecks Carr; walks away smiling.

-- conVINCEd yet?

-- Vin there, done that. -----Honorable mention.

-- Bud wiser. :lmao:

Quotes:-- VY said that he ran like "his mom was chasing him with a belt."

-- Kubiak: "That play he made right there, guys just don't make that play."

-- Rob Bironas: "He just got faster and faster as he got closer to the end zone."

-- Dameco Ryans: "You see him take off and you say 'It's over'".

-- Merrill Hoge: "See, I told you he's no good." Ok, I made that one up.

-- Merrill Hoge: "Look at my distinguished career and big knotted ties. I'm important." Kind of made that up, too, but just barely.

I say again, VY has more rushing yards than Reggie Bush, 458-405...and more rushing TDs, 5-4. By the way, Bush is a RB.
Whatever credibility that ESPN has left is being sucked out the longer it goes without anyone calling Hoge on the carpet. It is ok to have an opinion before the fact but to stare down reality and say the earth is flat? You'd be a bigger man to admit you are wrong.
I don't know who it was but some Houston sportswriter said that Sam Bowie was breathing easier. ;) So, anyway, we had a great time. No, Vince isn't Joe Montana...yet. He'll screw up. He'll throw an interception. He'll lose again. However, for right now, VY has vindicated himself. How many of you thought the Titans would win 6 games this year? How about after they were 0-5? Uh, and there are still 3 games left?

Give the man credit. He's revitalized an entire NFL roster...as a rookie...QB. Whatever "IT" is, VY has it in abundance.

Carry on.

Vince Young makes it possible for me to enjoy football without caring about the fantasy implications.

That said, I sure am glad he's on my team. ;)

That TD run won me my playoff game this week. Thank you very much VY

If he gets an upgrade or 2 on the OLine and a couple even decent wr's to go with Drew Bennett, he could be in for a big year next year. Plus, he faces HOU and INDY D twice a year. I know they have some other holes probably, but I don't know how they can't want to take a WR in the 1st or 2nd to complement VY. I think this is a pretty good/deep draft for wr's this year too - Johnson, Rice, Jarrett, Meachem, Ginn, Samardzija, Baker, Sweed...They should be able to grab one of those guys

Now the question is - what will he do against Jacksonville?

Theyre tough, but I kinda like the matchup for someone like VY. Their huge in the middle, but without Peterson especially, I think he'll be able to but up some rushing yards again. They could get down big quick too, which puts the ball in VY's hands even more. I don't see him having a worse game than this week really, asides from maybe 20 less rush yards

Nice post WoMI! I love the digs at Hoge. Hoge has been strangely quiet about Vince so far this week. Maybe he's tired of seeing his ugly mug on youtube.

Great post, man. He sure looks like the real deal so far. Sure there will be some growing pains, but thus far its hard to find fault in his game.

a very :goodposting: .I did the same thing these past few weeks and he actually got me out of my seat.

...I don't even have him on a fantasy squad.

65.7 Passer Rating and more INTs than TDs ??? He is playing the QB postion right?

As a Houstonian, I must agree with everything you've said. It's a sick, sick feeling down here in H-town. You've taken our team and our QB. This is one of the all-time low moments in our city's sports history. It's bad enough we passed Vince over, but for him to go to that team with that owner is a huge kick in the nads...

 It's good to see VW rolling along , I almost started him this week , but opted for Vick-- who by the way stinks .Anyway back to my point I have to say VW play has been rather consistant unlike other QB's i.e. Jake Delhome.. I'm hoping for a good game against Jax D, which also has been rather inconsistant. I don't follow Jax that closely, but as I recall they have always had a let down game following a previous week of total domination. .. One week a dominating game followed by a lousy game.. I think with the way they Jack Slapped the COLTS, this could be a let down game for JAX and another great outing for VINCE YOUNG

Week 15 prognostication= 210 passing 60 rushing 2 TD's .

Thanks for posting WoMI! Get used to VY highlights, he is an amazing playmaker. We miss him in Austin, but the Titans have about a million new fans. BTW, PacMan is fun to watch too!

Once is a typo, but TWICE means there's something you're trying to say here that I am just not grasping.Other than a Volkswagon, WTF is "VW"?

And he beat the Colts barely (underdog) and the Giants barely (underdog) and the Texans barely (underdog). The perspective is, Vince is leading a hapless, going no where, 2006 washed up NFL team excited. Lets take a look again next week after JAX.

I think this Jags game is a big one for Vince. The first meeting was IMO the only game this year that he didn't play better than the previous week. After abusing the Jags Adebisi-style for years, they have turned the tables on us the last few meetings. But, they haven't been nearly as good on the road as at home this year. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. LP should be rocking on Sunday.

WMI...Very :goodposting: My response in the other thread prolly works better here, as I can verify much of what you said, since I was there also...

Judging by the fact that yesterday at least 1/3 of the Texans' best crowd of the season was cheering openly for the Young and the Titans, and there were literally tens of thousands of fans sporting official Titans #10 Vince Young jerseys, I'd say that assessement is fairly accurate. Yesterday's crowd was the 2nd largest in Texans' history, and their first sellout of the year. The PA announcer thanked everyone for attending. He should have thanked Young. As I left the stadium having just watched Young and 25k would-be Texans fans, who are instead new Titans fans, demonstrate to Texans management just exactly how monumental an error they had committed by passing on the kid, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. On the way out I heard literally hundreds of Texans fans lamenting the loss of and loss to the hometown idol, while in the same breath decrying David Carr's lack of killer instinct and/or big play capability. One said "It's not Carr's fault, but he'll just never be on the level of a Vince Young." I heard one guy yell out to two dejected female clerks as he passed an empty Texans apparel stand "Y'all want some customers? Get some o' them Vince Young jerseys." As I made my way down the exit stairs, one could clearly hear shouts of "Mario who?" and others questioning whether Williams was even on the field during that last play.A crowd of thousands had gathered over by Young, cheering as he did a post-game interview. Another huge crowd had gathered in the stands by the Titans' tunnel to show Young and the Titans some appreciation as they left. As I stood next to a wonderful Houston couple cheering as Young headed to the locker room, she turned to me and said, half crying, "We sure do love our Vince, don't we? Houston sure does love Vince." Yep. Now they love him in Nashville, too. On the 610 AM Radio (Texans broadcast station) postgame show, the Texans own broadcast team literally gushed on and on about what an opportunity the Texans had missed by passing on Young. Two of them admitted they thought the game was over as soon as the Titans won the OT coin-toss, that Young would not be denied an overtime win and would do something, anything to make it happen, and that they had said exactly that to one-another when the Titans won that toss. One of them lamented that the Texans had blown a chance at "Luv Ya Blue II", a chance at "a love affair between a city, a player, and his team like the one Houston had with Earl Campbell and his Oilers". I lived in the Houston area back then. You quite literally couldn't go anywhere without seeing an Oilers sign, some Oilers merchandise, or people wearing Oliers jerseys, usually numbered "34". Houston was quite literally stark, raving mad about Earl and the Oilers. The crew went on about how you couldn't really blame Carr, since he had an ok game statistically and hadn't done anything to cause the loss, but also noted that sadly, and typically, he hadn't done anything to cause a win, either. Another lamented that "Unlike the Titans, the Texans still don't know who their qb is". He went on to urge mgmt to hit the FA qb market in the offseason. Remember, these are Texans broadcasters, half an hour after the game.Nope. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face as I left...until I remembered I could be watching that show 8 times a year at Reliant, instead of just once. That took the smile right off my face.

That quote alone makes this thread worthwhileI had serious doubts about Vince when he was drafted and have never been high on him - I am seriously beginning to rethink my stand now. He certainly has the Titans believing in themselves and has almost single-handedly steered that ship in the right direction. He isn't lighting it up, stats-wise, but he seems to have given the Titans a winning attitude - I look forward to what they can do next yearNi

I haven't been on this site a REAL long time but are you all the same people who get excited after Vick has a few good games in a row? Bottom line he can't throw the ball well enough yet...maybe he will as he progresses but at some point he's gonna have to get better or he will be just like Vick.

NFL wins are based on style points now? I mean, I know what you are saying, but who really cares? Also, don't just rely on the stat sheet. Drew Bennett dropped two easy catches -- 1 for 40 yards on the second play of the game and another 20 yard out. They were gimmes. Bennett also said plainly that the INT was completely his fault as he didn't cut the route correctly. I'm just sayin'.

I see what your saying also, I think were all just still waiting on that "perfect" mix in a QB of running and throwing. He's off to a good start thats for sure, much better than I thought he would do this year. I'm just not ready to give him the next big thing status yet. He is alot of fun to watch though.

Vince and Vick are two different animals. Vick is the best running quarterback there is and probably ever will be. His quickness and speed are unmatched at the QB position and maybe any other spot. Plus he has that cannon of a left arm. There is no question he is a phenomenal athlete. The biggest difference is VY has all of the intangibles that Vick lacks...leadership, competitiveness, adaptability, the moxie. Vick is Allen Iverson to VY's Michael Jordan. He inspires teammates to play over their heads and gives them confidence to do things they are not normally capable of. The Titans are really not that good right now. But with a ton of cap money plus 11 picks in the 2007 draft to play with, they are going to get more talent around him. For people who are sick of the VY talk now, just wait 3 years when the Titans are good.

I think Vick has proven his Iverson-ness for sure...but you really think we need to be talking Jordan when it comes to VY? I mean really

It's not just on this board. It started a long time ago and it's really picking up steam with NFL analysts.Of course, only time will tell if Young the NFL's Jordan in every sense, but when you look at what people really mean when they say it, it's not a stretch.

Not many Qb's play as well as Brady did his first year as a starter. Here's just a very small list.

You cannot use Tom Brady in this comparison because he did not become a starter until his second year in the league. The other QB's were all rookies.

65.7 Passer Rating and more INTs than TDs ??? He is playing the QB postion right?
Just hang in there, pal. It'll come to you eventually.
Tell that to M Vick. Oh, wait, that is what they've been telling Vick....for how many years. :bag: I think the NFL should just revert back to the 40's and have everyone run. QBs. FBs. RBs. Who needs passing?! :P WRs should just be extra blockers! Make the recievers really, REALLY BIG! Like 280 lbs big! Then line 'em up next to the TE and BAM! Unstoppable Offense! PS Vince has looked awsome lately, but not the 2nd coming. He's still just a jock.
