Words With Friends Tournament (1 Viewer)

iamsmilin

I want one, but I'm not creative
So I know there are plenty of WWF addicts on this board. I was thinking we could have our own little FBG tourney. We can start with a field of 16 and expand this if there is enough interest. My suggestion for some basic rules:

Each game should be completed in 3 days so the tourney doesn't drag out. Don't sign up if you are the type of person who makes a move once a week.

Best 2/3 games per round

Gentleman's agreement not to use any Scrabble-aid websites.

Winner please update the spreadsheet and start the next game if you know your opponent.

Yup. I forgot to add that.

You know, with as many nerds as are there are on this board, I am surprised this thread isn't getting more love.

Any droid people play Wordfeud?

seriously, someone played DELLY against me the other day. what the hell is that?
I just got DELL played against me. I have to admit that I do throw some things at the board as a guess, but I do NOT use a program.
And that's the problem that I have with the game. If you submit a word that isn't a word, you should lose a turn (or at least there should be a challenge rule like in Scrabble).

Well ADZ is a word. The first time I saw that I was like whhhhhaaaa?

It is a big fault. But for people like me who are spelling impaired, it really helps. I not smart.

Huge distinction here. I try out guess words all the time -- the English language is funny in that sometimes you put some roots together and lots of things that sort of seem like they should be words actually are (even if you don't know what they mean). But that's a far cry from using these programs -- I've never even downloaded one, but my understanding from searching for WWF to download it on my iPhone is that there are a bunch of apps where you can put in all your letters and it gives you a full word list. Even worse, I'll bet there are programs where you can probably enter in the whole current board and your wordlist and it will tell you what word to use AND WHERE TO PUT IT. Yes, any kind of assist program is absolutely cheating.

That's how we used to play at grandma's house. You can challenge, you go to the dictionary, and if you're wrong, there goes your turn. Impossible to implement here.

And that's what makes the whole game less fun. A player can just guess word after word with declining point values until he happens to hit one. All that does is reward the person who has time to waste. Not fun. Also, I disagree that it would be impossible to implement. There's already a dictionary built into the game. If you put in a non-existent word and the other player challenges, the tiles are removed and you lose your turn. That would be exteremely easy to implement.

This is going to be hard to prevent cheaters. Especially when you can't prove it.
True. You just have to hope people are honest.

I do this mainly when I don't know how to spell something and am too lazy to open up a text window to check spelling. Like, I always get confused with the IE placement and stuff.

Yeah, I'm against leveling the playing field between good spellers and bad spellers. I also think people who are bad at math should be at a disadvantage when playing Blackjack.

DAMN you! Screwed me in 2 games then. Seriously embarrassing when I can't add fast enough for blackjack. Good thing I don't gamble.

I'll admit I'm one of those guys who punches words in sometimes until I get a result. It's a game people, it's not that serious.

Also, Otis can most definitely attest to my not cheating. :loco:

As the reigning undefeated chess champion at TBS, I really have to disagree with you.

There's no money riding on this tournament?

I wonder if that would get more people to sign up.

 Although even the online official Scrabble game does the same thing - if you try to play a phony it won't let you.

Honestly if someone wants to spend hours on end guessing at every possible combination of letters to beat me, have at it. I have no problem with someone trying a handful of different things until one sticks. And I don't see that being a huge advantage, and it certainly won't win the game for you.True on implementing your version, that actually can work alright.

Come on! We only need 5 more players. Unless someone can think of another way to do a tourney with only 11 players?

What game is it? Link?

Good chance you can add me to the list.

Is this an iphone game? Then out.

Yeah it is. Thanks Otis, but I think that would be too weird for you. hahahaha. I know it would be weird for my husband to take part in a FBG event, unless he really is BigBottom.

You can do a tourney with any number of people, it just means that some people will have to get byes if it's not a power of 2.

It's like you are speaking a different language. I am terrible with that kinda stuff. Would you like to set up the matches? And I am being serious and in no way sarcastic.
