Who would you say is the worst head coach currently in the NFL?

Cable - The Raiders started the season decently enough but have gotten worse in the last two games. Plus, it's the Raiders.

Zorn - The Redskins are not a great team but no way should they be quite this bad.

Mangini - keeps playing games with the qb, fines players $$$$$ for not paying for water, and this team looks like a bunch of bad high schoolers.

Turner - It seems he's been able to slowly but surely take a very good team and slam it full force into the face of mediocrity.

Childress - He keeps winning but he makes some odd calls.

Lewis - The Bengals are actually winning this year!

Del Rio - The Jaguars are a big bag of unprepared suck.

Phillips - Other coaches don't have much to work with - Wade does less with more.

Jauron - Overly conservative playcalling and doesn't bother to use TO or Evans.

McDaniels - Fluke win against the Bengals and piece of cake schedule have hidden the fact the passing attack and offense as a whole is terrible.

Mangini. Romeo made Cleveland at least kind of respectable, and look what Ryan has done with the Jets since Mangini has left. Mangini really sucks.

Cable is too easy of a choice, and it's not really his fault. Russell is one of the worst starting QB's I've ever seen (I'm 34 y/o), and I'm not exaggerating. You can't win with that kind of garbage at QB.

 
I can't believe someone posted John Fox ahead of me. He is so stubborn in his ways. Look how long he kept starting Foster over Williams. Watch how long he'll leave Jake in there. He refuses to make changes to help his team. I can't stand the guy. :rant:

 
Zorn.

Phillips, Jauron and Turner all strike me as coaches who aren't necessarily horrible, but not good enough to elevate a team to the next level. Any team they coach has limited upside. They are all painfully average as head coaches. Yes, Turner got to the AFC title game two years ago, but with a Chargers team that was stacked and had just come off a 14-2 season.

Mangini then Fox. Real close though. Fox is clueless but Mangina has really destroyed any chance of winning football in Cleveland.

 
How can John Fox be mentioned in this thread? One 0-3 start and he is suddenly dog meat? I guess we should mention Jeff Fisher, too, eh?

It's not just this season, I've thought he was forcing his own issues for years. He digs a hold that he believes in and refuses to change. He has destroyed what CAR could be for season after season.
 
I vote Mangini.

It's hard to completely blame the coach in Oakland or Dallas because I don't sense they get to make all the decisions, especially in Oakland.

Yeah I was surprised not to see a "McDimwit" or McOthersophomoricname write in vote yet either. But I guess we are only a few posts in. My vote would go to Mangini or Zorn. I'd throw Cable in there but it's hard to call him a coach when he's limited in the decision making. Seems like Mangini lost that team before they even played a meaningful down.

That may or may not be true, but a guy with a .548 winning percentage in 7+ seasons being one of the absolute worst coaches in the NFL? No way. His team has never finished worse than 7-9, and he has been to a Super Bowl, and to another conference title game. That is not a bad coach.

Any first year head coach has to be given some time before being accurately rated. I mean, Rex Ryan is doing a great job so far, but it is too early to put him in the top 10, for example.

throw Wade Phillips in there, I've grown tired of him.

It's a shame Jon Gruden is not on the sideline for one of these teams.

I would say Zorn, but I really want to go off the board and go with Denver's Josh McDaniels.He drove Jay Cutler out of town and he's poorly utilizing his offensive weapons (Royal, Marshall, Scheffler). Only a fluke TD against Cincy and the schedulemaker is affording him a cushy 3-0 start.
 
I don't think Cable really belongs here...sure his team sucks, but imo for a guy who really doesn't have much control over roster moves, he's done a pretty good job with the pieces he's been given.

His team is playing hard and they look competitive.

:kicksrock: Fox's stubbornness as a head coach is unfathomable. He has missed windows of potential greatness for the Panthers franchise by being slow to shake things up, provide a new wrinkle or promote the young talent in favor of the grizzled veteran. I was shocked that the offseason came and went and a new QB option wasn't brought in to help (a) push Delhomme or (b) build new farm talent behind Delhomme. You are seeing what the effect of not making that decision is having on this franchise now. I like the Panthers but I don't care for John Fox and think that with a coach like Cowher, they would again be an elite squad with only a few personnel movements.

They said WORST. I dont care what the circumstances that got Ronald McDaniels to 3-0, he isnt among the worst today - the team actually undefeated.

I might have misinterpreted your post but I thought you were comparing McDaniels and Lewis as head coaches.My inclusion of McDaniels in my post earlier was tongue in cheek as I'm sure Moleculo's was as well. I don't think anyone would have an argument if they included him as the worst coach in the NFL. There was just so much chatter about how he was destined to fail during the offseason.

 
I still say Fox. He has undeniable huge talent on his team but he crushes that talent as he always has. I'm not a CAR homer, I've just paid attention for several years and he is terrible. I don't feel that's as bad as a new coach who has to rebuild. Fox has everything but a QB and tends to hang on way too long without changing. He should be trying to get Garcia but he thinks he's better than that so they'll just waste away. I feel so sorry for his players.

 
i'd like to revisit this thread after the season. IF the Cowboys dont have a playoff win this year my vote goes for Philips. right now, i'll give the honor to mangina

Those years with Stewart at QB I think put some Steeler fans in an early grave - he was that horrible.

What a horrible post. Fox started Foster over Williams for just two years, and that's the way it should have been. Their OL was bad during that time, and Williams was a terrible blocker then, and he was still learning, and he danced too much. Foster was the better choice then.
 
I kind of look at it as, who has done the least with regards to talent.

That automatically should eliminate Cable and McDaniels, among others.

2. **** Jauron

3. Mike Tice- Yes, I know he is no longer a head coach, but I will NEVER forget.

 
As far as bad gameday coaches, I'd go with Zorn or Wade Phillips. As far as not having a clue how to run a team, I'd say Mangini.

Exactly - Mangini seems to ignore the fact that his players, while they don't have to like him, have to respect him. It seems he goes out of his way to make his players' jobs and lives more difficult. Plus, he hasn't done much regarding wins and losses either. Probably the coach most likely to be subjected to a blanket party if the circumstances were right.There are a number of great candidates, however.
 
Right now I'd say Zorn, but I'm biased. Morris seems pretty bad. McDaniels is miraculously doing an OK job after having arbuably the worst offseason a new HC has ever had.

I've never seen a coach has so much to work with and yet. be unable to make it big. I can't believe Big tuna lost his job to this loser and if it wasn't for Parcells, there would be no Barber, Romo or Witten playing it for keeps.

It's impossible to compile a list like this without getting ripped for it. But I think it's solid. Only guy on there I like is Del Rio.

What a horrible post. Fox started Foster over Williams for just two years, and that's the way it should have been. Their OL was bad during that time, and Williams was a terrible blocker then, and he was still learning, and he danced too much. Foster was the better choice then.

Exactly. And while Delhomme is everyone's whipping boy now, he was actually quite good for a long time for that team (despite only having a reliable, consistent number two receiving option about half of the time, and almost never having a good TE or a good receiving back).
 
What about Spags? his team looks putrid. Its either him Cable or Morris. At least Mangina and Fox have some success in this league as HC's.
