Some franchises can't seem to do anything right. They start at the bottom and stay at the bottom. They hire crappy coaches & GM's one after the next. They treat their players, fans, and workers like dirt. Who is the worst of the worst?

Right now, I'm saying Raiders, but my Browns aren't far behind. At least Oakland has some talent on the field.

Conspicuously absent from the list of choices: Arizona!

I wanted to say Oakland...and right now, they certainly do.

But over the long haul...they do get it right some...so I voted Oakland...but as soon as I hit submit...I knew I got it wrong.

Prior to last year...had to be Arizona...just perennially not a good team...lots of empty seats. But seemingly on the uptick.

My vote would be between Cleveland or Detroit...with the nod to Cleveland for now.

How did Denver end on this list? Apart from the silliness that occurred this year this has been a solid organziation. Plus despite the problems with Cutler and Marshall they are 3-0 this year.

Voted for Cleveland but almost went with the Lions but there seems to be hope on the horizon for them.

I voted for the Browns, and I am obviously a fan.

I think that ownership tries to do the right thing by the fans, but there isn’t fluency between sound football insight and common sense in decision making. Too often it’s ready, fire, aim in football operations. For example, fans started to despise the lack of accountability and work ethic under Romeo Crennel. So what’s Lerner do? Rushes to interview the strict, pricky Mangini, basically bids against himself, and doesn’t do due diligence other than placing a call to Cowher. There’s no culture there; the reason the Steelers and now even the Ravens are so successful is because they established a culture and a system of doing things that works and they don’t veer from it. Too often we’re starting from scratch. We need a long-term figurehead in there setting up a culture and a system.

There was an article by the Baltimore beat writer after Mangini was hired but before the Jets hired Rex Ryan that trashed the Browns for not hiring Rex. He made some great points but at work I can’t look up the article.

there always seems like there's hope on the horizon for the Lions but it never pans out to more than "make the playoffs" success.Five active NFL teams have yet to appear in a Super Bowl: the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New Orleans Saints.

Of these, guess how many have been around the entire time?

Detroit does have 4 league championships, the last one in 1957.

Plus, the owner makes a bad product off the field.

1. Detroit (The results speak for themselves, just a horrific organization from top to botton, for DET fans sake, I hope things are changing, because the NFC North will be a powerhouse for quite some time)

2. Cleveland

3. Oakland

4. Cinnci

---------------

These things change of course, but Oakland isn't going anywhere till Al Davis sells/dies, and I think the same can be said for Brown in Cinnci. Detroit may not see results right away due to six games versus GB. MIN, and CHI every year, but I think they are on the right path. Cleveland needed a dictator-esque coach like Mangini, but was he the right choice? You'd think Ohio fans would demand more out of their teams...

Oakland is a joke lately, but I can't call them the worst since they were in the Super Bowl as recently as 2002. I'll say Detroit followed closely by Cleveland, although the Mangini hire may flip this

Very :goodposting: As a fan this is just painful to watch. I can tolerate a rebuilding phase as long as there is a clear goal. Some clubs just consistantly get it right (Pitt, NE, Balt). With the NFL being such a copycat league, it amazes me that the Browns brass has not been able to catch on. :bag:

How is Denver/KCC on this list?
Just a couple teams in seeming disarray. Probably not in the same league as the others...
Disarray is a pretty strong word. Denver might've played bad teams and got lucky in one game but is still 3-0, while KC may be 0-3 but has played Baltimore and Philly - both on the road. They've got an owner who appears committed to winning and have just hired a man most consider qualified to turn it around for them. KC would fall in the discussion for "least talented" team in the NFL, but it's going to be a couple years before we can say whether or not they're in disarray.

They don't sell Fords where I live so I'll have to take your word for it. As for the the Lions I guess I still remember the good years they had with B Sanders and Herman Moore.

It all starts at the top, and William Clay Ford is hands down the worst owner in professional sports.

The Lions may be on the upswing a little, but until ownership changes (and it won't until he dies) they will never reach anything above 7-9.

Al Davis is horrible as well but he's way different than Ford. Davis is just an idiot, but he honestly thinks hes right and tries to be hands on.

Denver in particular is WAY off the mark. You may not love the current regime, but how is a currently 3-0 team with 6 super bowl appearances, 2 super bowl wins, a total record of 385 and 341 (130 and 78 since 1996) even in consideration against those other teams?Washington is also an odd choice, even though they actually have votes. Can't understand the logic of considering them, let alone picking them. Another team with multiple super bowls and an average record in the modern era. They are certainly far from the best, but they have not had a season with less than 5 wins in a long time. I'm sure recent news has skewed folks in that direction, but not close to "worst of the worst".

I guess it depends how you look at the teams. In the Super Bowl Era it would be hard to argue against Detroit. The Cards would be up there too except for their recent success. Over the past ten years certainly Cleveland is in the mix. Looking down the road I can't think of a team with less young talent on their current roster than the Browns.

WTF is Denver doing on your list? 6 Super Bowl trips, 2 Lombardi Trophies and are currently sitting at 3-0.

Kansas City has hit a rough patch too but they are another proud franchise.

St-Louis maybe.

How do the Rams only get 1 vote?

In my mind they're easily the worst...still. Although Oakland is a team in shambles as well. Anytime your coaching staff is in the news for fisty-cuffs, you have a problem.

The fun part this year is that we get to find out in week 8 when the Lions play the Rams who wins in a head-to-head. Can we call that game the "toilet bowl"? I'll be seriously considering Detroit in the suicide pool that week if I'm still alive.

Denver, KC and Jax dont belong on this list.

Denver has been a solid franchise and is emerging from a rough patch.

KC has been crappy but is clearly investing with an eye on winning (GM, QB, HC).

Jax was in the playoffs 2 years ago and injury riddled last year. They MAY have made some bad personnel decisions but the jury is out.

Final answer: Oakland.

Interesting that you're avoiding Detroit here. :coffee:

I vote Cincy. Their cycle of losing has gone on for so long that people can't even remember when they had their Ickey Woods season. It's the strangest fanbase of all as well. If you present them with the simple fact that their franchise is a joke they get super defensive. I mean this team has had just one playoff appearance in 20 years. Does anyone even come close to that?

And yet their fanbase is totally ok with it. I don't get it. At least Detroit at least acts like they are upset. With Cincy they just continue to give their team a pass year after year.

The fact remains that since Brown left in I believe 1991? that organization it's had the least success of anyone, and as of now shows no sign of doing anything reasonably productive.

You beat me to it.0 playoffs appearances in what? 10 years I think?Brought Marv Levy out of the reitrement home last season just to make things worse. While the rest of the football world is waiting for Ralph to kick-off so they can move the team.

Thought about the Bills. While they haven't been competitive for awhile, I think they have a good owner. Wilson DOES seem to care about the fans and the quality of his product. Thoughts?

How can it NOT be DETROIT....the most futile franchise in all of sports. No Superbowl appearance, and only one playoff victoroy in the whole superbowl era. And if they had instant replay, that one vicotry would have been taken away since they had 12 men on the field when they kicked the game winning FG. Al Davis has some SB championships....It is no contest, Detroit is the worst.

And I don't even have to bring up 0-16 last year.

What's it take to fix this? What do the successful franchises do that (some of) these don't?
It's harder now with the salary cap because the worst teams have to pay their draft picks a lot of money. It's almost like the draft doesn't help the bad teams unless they really nail the pick.I mean the Rams this year picked a total bust and have him on the books for a ton of money. Now they are setback two fold. Instead of getting Sanchez and developing a good QB they have a salary cap fiasco on their hands and a lineman that probably was 3rd round material if they were to draft today.Had they picked at 25, lets say the impact would not have been as catastrophic.

I think you got your facts mixed up here.

I noticed a few years ago that SD had acquired a second round pick in exchange for their future #1. They did this for a couple consecutive years. At the time, I thought this was a smart move, a good way to get quality players for less money. Here's the catch, though. My Browns had three second-round picks this year. They (all three!) are closer to the practice squad than first string! <sigh>

I think the Skins really. Not because they have the worst record over time because obviously they do not, but because they spend money every year on bad decisions and then they cant seem to stick with anything either (how many coaches have they had since Snyder bought the team) and then the whole suing season ticket holders etc. They miss on draft picks (when they have them) and free agents. The money is there, but the wherewithal is not.

How is Denver/KCC on this list?
 Actually, how is KC, Denver, Oakland, St. Louis, Washington, or Cincinnati on this list? I didn't read the whole thread, so excuse me if it's been mentioned, but 5 of your 9 choices have won Superbowls. 1 other (Cincy) has been to a Superbowl. That right there almost negates all of them from being the worst franchise.I chose to null vote (just to see what people voted for) because this is a terrible poll (question isn't bad, but the choices are beyond terrible)I think I'll wait until the Lakers and Celtics are on down trends and ask if they are the worst organizations in the NBA.

Cincinnati personifies incompetence from an organizational standpoint. I am surprised they haven't gotten more votes.

The Redskins aren't the worst, but they certainly manage to accomplish less on the field with more resources and expenditure than pretty much anyone else. It's astounding.

They had 12 men on the field for an entire game ??!! And no one caught it??!! No wonder they won 38-6.

oakland cant get a legitimate coaching candidate to even have a sham interview with them and use them to up the offer from another team.

ah yes, the glory years when they made the playoffs 6 out of 9 years. And they even won a playoff game once. Seriously, look at their playoff history. One win since 1957.

Wilson doesn't care about the quality of the product. Where are you getting this stuff? Wilson cares about the money, period. (when he doesn't get his way, he threatens to move the team)The bills have been mediocre for the entire franchises existence, except for a brief period in the late 80's to mid 90's. We got lucky and hired Bill Polian and he built those teams.Do you know why Ralph fired Bill Polian? For having a disagreement/argument with Ralph's daughter, who was the head of scouting, LOL!(pre superbowl era doesn't count in my book)

This list is pretty laughable if you think about it.

How the hell is Washington or Denver on this list?

Why aren't the cardinals on this list? Bill Bidwell is one of the worst owners in the league. Where the hell is New Orleans? Tom Benson is crap for an owner as well.

And Oakland has multiple superbowl championships and was just in the superbowl 7 years ago. How do they even qualify?

Because the OP is talking about team history, not current team makeup. The Rams are not that far removed from a Super Bowl win and another super bowl appearance.
