Would Like Some Opinion About Scoring System (1 Viewer)

GULAM

Footballguy
I have been running a fantasy football league for 3 years. Had the same scoring system for all 3 and now have been approached by one of the owners saying that he disagrees with our current system and would like it changed because it puts unfair weight to some positions. I will post our scoring and the top 10 players from last year.

I just wanted to see what you guys thought and whether or not I should be thinking about changing the scoring format. Thanx a lot for yalls time!

Each PAT Made 1

Team Defense / Special Teams 0 points allowed 10

2-6 points allowed 7

7-13 points allowed 4

14-17 points allowed 1

Peyton Manning, 219

Jay Cutler, 215

DeAngelo Williams, 197.4

Donovan McNabb, 191

Ravens D/ST, 191

Matt Cassel, 187

Once again thank yall for any feedback!

here are some more of the top scorers

the top 10 listed above and:

11) Steelers D -183

12) Eagles D - 180

13) michael turner - 178.2

14) Tony Romo - 177

15) Chad Pennington - 171

16) titans d - 171

17) Tyler Thigpen - 166.2

18) Eli Manning - 166

19) Stephen Gostkowski- 159

20) Thomas Jones - 157.2

21) Bucs D - 157

22) David Akers - 156

23) Larry Fitzgerald - 155.2

24) Brett Favre - 153

Noticing that Tyler Thigpen outscored 95% of all RB's is remarkable to me. I would go for a re-vamped scoring system though it's not my league.

Your 1pt per 20 rushing and rcvg yds devalue the RB and WR positions quite a bit. A 50+ yd FG scores the same as a 100 yd rusher/receiver. You've only got 3 RB and 1 WR in the top 20 in scoring.

it's a little QB and TD heavy, but there's nothing that unusual about it.
Ditto. My personal preference would be that TDs don't weigh that heavily. I think the most common scoring systems give twice as many yardage points as you do, but the same TD points. On a slightly different note, a list of the highest season scoring totals really isn't meaningful. A better measure of the results of your scoring system would be a list of players by VBD value, or some similar method that accounts for scoring by position rather than total points.

It's very QB- and team defense-centric, but I'm assuming the owner already knows this. Not agreeing with the system and not understanding it are two different things. I've played in leagues where I didn't agree with the scoring system, but I still played and just adjusted my draft plans accordingly.

We use essentially the same scoring system in my 10 year old league. We have discussed changing the scoring system several times, but everyone in the league is used to the scoring system, so we have not changed it. If you know going into the draft that QB is a very valuable position you must alter your strategy accordingly. The only down side that I see to this scoring system is that I have to change my cheat sheets going into this draft to bump QB's up a little in my rankings (I expect the top 5 QB's to be gone by the middle of the third round, and I never draft them).

The bottom line is it does not matter what the scoring system is as long as you prepare for the draft knowing the system.
