Would Patriots vs Packers in the Super Bowl be.... (1 Viewer)

Can the immortal Brett Favre, in the twilight of his career, do it just one last time and defeat the unbeatable Patriots? What would surely be the biggest challenge of Favre's career!!! :blackdot:

It would almost certainly be the most watched, highest rated Super Bowl in history. Another certainty is that 98% of the viewers will be pulling for the Packers. Just a hunch.

Don't do this. I started a thread Saturday night called "The greatest game- Pats vs. Colts" Remember? I was an idiot. The games still have to be played this weekend. More often than not in these situations, you never get the result you want. Don't make the same mistake I did.

I'm a Bills fan. What do I care if it doesn't work out? I'm just speculating on what would be a dramatic and action-packed matchup.

Exactly. And I'd LOVE to see this game, especially being in Wisconsin. Would be simply amazing.

The media is going to go nuts with this storyline if it happens. Could be an interesting two weeks.

I don't know if it would be the best ever. Of the top of my head, the most entertaining SBs I recall:

Last 3 Patriots SBs

GB vs. DEN

STL vs. TEN

NYG vs. BUF

SF vs CIN

As a Pats fan I'd be biased to say which I liked most, but removing NE from equation, I think the GB/DEN SB was the best, both in game play and storylines.

"It is a walking, standing, can you say Denver has the lead!"

We won't know if it's the "best" Super Bowl until it's played.

Most hyped Super Bowl of all-time? Without a doubt, along with the Montana-Marino Super Bowl in '84, Favre-Elway in '98, or the Denver-Minnesota Super Bowl that would have happened if Gary Anderson made that FG.

could have beens too.... Buffalo vs SF... but it never happened... back in the hay day of Buffalo's K-gun and Montana offense for SF... it would have been an offensive show. Albeit, the Giants ball control, burn clock offense made it instead... and still only won by a missed FG...

It would be a great one but not as good as like Steelers/Cowboys and some of the other super powers of their time. The NFC just doesnt have a super power here lately like NE in the AFC

I think it is the Cinderella season of GB plus the resurgance of the Immortal, Lovable Brett Favre against the mighty machine that is the Patriots that is so compelling. Another poster in another thread summed it up perfectly. This matchup will embody Good vs. Evil. Everything everybody loves about sports vs. everything everybody hates about sports. David vs. Goliath. And the lone hero who will not be suppressed. This is just the best set of storylines I have ever seen. Beats the heck out of the Gruden Bowl.

With the talent on both sides of the ball with both of those teams, if the mid/late 70's Steelers/Cowboys played in this years SB, it would make Favre vs. Brady of this year look like a preseason game between Miami and the Jets...

Whether it would be a great Super Bowl would depend on what happened in the game. But in terms of story lines going into the game, it would be hard to imagine a better set-up.

Uh, right.Bradshaw: 51.9% completions, 212 TD 210 INTStallworth: Three 1000-yard seasonsSwann: No 1000-yard seasonsHarris: 4.1 yards per carryThe modern-day Jets and Dolphins would wipe the floor with any team from the mid/late 70s.

I disagree. From what I remember of this game was that it was rather boring until the final quarter.

I remember it being a great game...I didn't care much about it going in, but I remember it being a good game...

The Patriots have been waiting 11 long years for another shot at the Packers in the Super Bowl.
Really? Why do fans do this? The game Green Bay won that year means nothing to the players NOW on New England. To the Fans maybe. But to the players No.I'm sure Brady will be ask this same question, Brady's answer will be.'I was a Huge Favre fan and wanted the Pack to win'

Yeah...the only player left for the Packers is Favre. Are there any Pats players left from that team?

Yes, Bruschi and Troy Brown, although Brown missed SB31 with an injury. There are also a handful of those Pats still in the NFL, but on other teams now:Lawyer MilloyTy LawAdam VinatieriWillie McGinestDrew Bledsoe and Curtis Martin just miss this list, amongst others I'm sure.

I would be the greatest SB hype machine of all time. We will have to actually wait for the game to know if it's the greatest SB of all time though.

And this time no Drew Bledsoe or Max Lane!
And no Vicadin.
He quit the Vic before that season anyway.
Yeah; I know. I was just talking smack. Its really Pats fans, not the Patriots, who've "been waiting 11 long years".

Pats / Packers would be a great story, but I think the game itself would be a mismatch.. I hate the Pats by the way..

I'd call it :

NE 37

GB 20

Please....obviously you never watched any of those teams and are probably really young, tell me how many Hall of Fame players are on todays Jets/Dolphins...'nuff said.

I watched all of those teams, and I'm not really young. There are a number of players on today's Jets/Dolphins who, if we sent them back in time, would be Hall of Famers playing against players who are slower and smaller than they are. Every team in the league today would wipe the floor with every team in the league from back then, outweighing them by up to 50 pounds at every line position, with faster players in the secondary and at every skill position. Terry freaking Bradshaw would not get drafted in the 2008 NFL.

Let's see, 1972...

The 1971 Dallas Cowboys (best team ever assembled) vs the Miami Dolphins (about to go on an historic 17-0 season.)

I vote no.

PS

the only QB today that could hold Terry freakin Bradshaw's jock strap is Favre.

you guys and your pretty boys and flag football rules
