Would You Be Comfortable With Thomas Jones As Your #2 RB? (1 Viewer)

assume your #1 RB is LT or S Alexander-

would you be happy to have two WR's along the lines of Chambers & Roy Williams

is Thomas Jones was taken as your #2 RB in the 4th round??

I wouldn't be. Best case for him he's splitting with Benson.

Benson will get more and more carries as the year goes on, rendering TJ useless.

His ADP is 5th round, so I wouldn't be looking at him until then. But in a start 3 WR league I don't think I'd have a problem with him as RB2 as long as I swing back around and pick up a McAllister/Taylor/Brown in the 6th.

I dont get Jones ADP. Especially in dynasty leagues. The guy put up fantastic numbers even with splitting some time with Benson. He's got top 10-15 RB talent IMO. Even if they split I expect him to be a top 20 back minimum, with much higher upside. Wish hed get out of Chicago. (I own Thomas and Benson in a dynasty league and just waiting for one to start for a different team hehe.) I would be happy with Jones as a RB2. However Id also try to make sure I had a solid backup just in case Benson starts hogging some of his time. Honestly though, I dont think thatl happen as much as people think. I With the terrible passing game in Chi, wouldnt you expect at least 400 carries between the two of them? I say 400 because its even and they could both get 200 or so. Decent production. But someone Will get more. Not to mention, with all this Benson stuff going on and him getting injured, who knows how much he'll play. Thomas looks like he could be a great sleeper. He had 314 carries last year. Remember also Adrian Peterson got 76. Benson had 67. I think they run even more this year. I think Jones gets 250 Minimum. Benson gets 175 or so, if he stays healthy. And peterson gets whatevers left, unless one of them gets injured. Could be wrong though. But watching Benson run is aggrivating. Hes a sloppy runner, his hands flail, he hits hard, but looks wobbly almost. Basically he runs very oddly. And I think it could be a problem for him until he fixes it. Not to mention he doesnt seem to have a lot of moves since hes been in the NFL. Very straight forward. Thomas Jones can cut it up a bit.

I am still amazed at how many people are not willing to realize the risk with Thomas Jones (saying he will get 20-25 carries/game all year). Benson was a very high draft pick by the group running the show now. When Jones was holding out from camp they gave Benson the #1 spot. They want to give Benson this job.

And Benson has shown them how much he doesn't want it.

How do you figure? Benson chose to get injured?

Not if the Bears players have a say in it. Jones last year was the irst since Walter Payton to gain 13oo yards. After oe preseason game you are writing him off, but then you aren't teammates of Benson. Why is he disliked so much?

I agree that it is concerning that teammates seem to support Jones and are willing to throw Benson under the bus.

Teammates don't make those decisions. I'm sure LJ's teammates wanted Priest too. Like LJ, Ced will take the league by storm and we won't have to worry about that anymore soon enough.

Bad example. LJ's teammates DID want Priest, which is why he held the job until he got injured. Also, LJ was a better back than Priest last year. Benson has yet to show he is a better back than Jones.

I'd be comfortable with Thomas Jones as my #2, provided I had a ton of bargain RBs to offset it. In other words, if my #3 and #4 were Frank Gore and Ahman Green, or if I managed to pair up Benson, then I'd have no problems with Jones as my #2.

Jones' schedule is 8 percent EASIER than last year, when he finished around #10. If I pair him with Benson, I'm jumping for joy.

Jones will lead the way again. The Bears will not use a RBBC, that's not how they roll. If Jones starts week one he will not let go of the job. Benson will have to wait one more year. Kinda like LJ had to wait 3 years. Ring a bell?

The answer to the question for everyone, depends on what they think about Benson.

I'll answer this question and get out, becauase the I can't stomach another Jones/Benson sissy-boy slapfight.

I wouldn't feel solid about him as my #2 back, because I think the Bears do intend to find out if Benson is the goods. If you are certain that Benson is a bust, then taking Jones is a solid pick. I have no idea if Benson is the real deal or not, or if he is durable enough, but I know he's gonna get the chance. That alone makes me nervous. And he's going to have to bust, really BUST, for Jones to put up solid RB2 numbers. I don't like the odds.

Dont worry they are finding out slowly but surely that Benson has the talent to play but does nt have a the head to play in the NFL .

Afetr what i heard from him i think he is a little slow mentally and f...ed up big time .

Jones will keep his job otherwise they would have traded him , they really dont trust Benson , and they are right he has bust written all over.

What a waste of the 5th pick of the draft.

They keep trying to give the job to Benson, but watching him a few times..Benson is just not that good. Jones is the much better RB and fit for that system.

Chicago local here.

Alot of talk on local talk radio and in the papers about the RB situation. It is very obvious that the veterans have been hazing Benson because he got handed the starting job even though Jones played his butt off last year and led them to the division title. His no-show on the sidelines last week and the fact that it was leaked by two players brought the situation to a head.

There is no question that Benson has great talent, but Jones is one of the leaders on the Bears. The coaching staff must realize behind closed doors that they divided the locker room by making Benson the starter and caused a huge distraction for the team. IMHO, based on everything I've heard and read, Jones will be starter and will get the bulk of the carries this year barring injury. Nobody has come out and said that, but I think it will be a huge issue if they don't make Jones the starter.

If the Bears start to falter, then I could see it turning into a RBBC in the second half of the season with the front office and coaching staff wanting to see more of Benson in order to make a roster decision next year. But, since this team still runs the ball 60-70% of the time, its possible that Jones could still get 275-300 carries even with him splitting time with Benson. They had nearly 400 carries between them last season.

To answer the original question, I'd be more comfortable with Jones as my RB3. I think Jones could hurt you as a RB2 towards the end of the season if the Bears aren't in playoff contention. That is where the risk comes in.

Ok. Ive been looking in to this situation.

PLEASE WATCH THIS HIGHLIGHT REEL.

Benson

And then please tell me if you think there is somthing awkward about his running. Especially once he gets in the open field. He looks unbalanced, or somthing of that nature. A wobbly runner? Watch this and see what I mean. Aside from ONE highlight, in which he bounces off a tackler, I'm not impressed.

I dunno. Hard to say because the quality of the video itself is horrible.I like this clip better....

From that link:KIPER JR. "I had a GM I respect tell me that Benson is THE BEST red zone running back he ever scouted."

BERMAN: "I had a GM I respect tell me that Benson is the safest pick in the draft..... all those carries in college and he never got hurt."

Stay on topic. Jones rushed for more yards than anyone since Walter and you bring up a chronically injured runner. That has nothing to do with Jones.

That clip is more impressive. However, that was college and there were ALOT of bad or missed tackles in that video. They call him the safest pick because he was never injured. Well that's all changed too since he's been in the NFL. Im not saying he's gonna bust for sure or anything. I just havnt liked what Ive seen in his short NFL career. I don't think he has a lot of moves. I don't think he's very elusive. Now, he's more of a pounder so that shouldnt matter too much. But pounders need to be able to withstand hard hits. And he's gotten pretty dinged up thus far into his career.PS this convo is more suited for the Benson/Jones debate thread. Sorry we've been going on about it here.

Umm...who else is going to finish first in the NFC North?

Another (albeit off topic) gem from that link:Mel Kiper's Best Available:

1. Mike Williams WR/USC

2. Carnell "Cadillac" Williams RB/Auburn

I'm not sure why anyone should question Benson's talent. The problem is the guy is mental and he makes bad choices. From draft day forward he just seemed off to me in a Ricky Williams sort of way.
