Would you do this to guarantee a SB victory? (1 Viewer)

I'm wrestling with the ethics and the intelligence of making this move tonight

I have my Super Bowl matchup in the bag. My opponent is done and I'm up by 3.9 pts with Vernon Davis left to go for me tonight.

I'm thinking, since I don't need his points, of picking up and starting an inactive tight end on Atlanta or SF just to plug into Davis spot tonight and ensure that I seal the victory.

This would protect me in the (unlikely) event that Davis somehow gets me -4 pts tonight and costs me the sb. 2 fumbles and 0 yards would do it lol

1) is this an ethical move in your opinion?

2) is it an intelligent move? Especially when we don't know if there will be any week 16 stay corrections that might fortuitously bounce 4 pts in the direction of my opponent.

Happy holidays guys!

I think these kind of moves violate the spirit of the game; and you're begging to incur the wrath of the fantasy gods somewhere down the line.

There's nothing wrong with it as long as your new lineup meets your league's requirements.

At that point differential, I'd just roll with Davis and enjoy your nice victory, and not have to worry about ethics. You're not talking about a defense where you could earn negative points, or a kicker missing his only FG attempt.

That being said, if you're going to do it...let us know the full rosters of both teams so that if some random play occurred where a guy was incorrectly credited with a play, we can all point and laugh at you should a correction take place.

Lol thanks bro that's the Xmas spirit!

Play Davis. Geez if he gets 0 yds and fumbles twice you just aren't meant to win it. My luck I'd sit him and lose by a stat correction.

I think the odds of Vernon Davis having two fumbles for zero yards are less than 0.01%. Greater chance of there being a stat correction than VD somehow scoring -4.0+ points.

The only reason I'd do this is if I was in a league where defenses can score negative points... but not a TE who is averaging 15.4 PPG with only three games under ten points (one of them being 9.88). I'd just leave him in there and enjoy the win without causing any league problems (even though it shouldn't, someone would say something just because they're bitter about losing).

I mean....Davis hasn't had a game with-4 pts all year so what makes me think that could happen tonight? It's me being paranoid I know.

Just play Davis. You never know with stat corrections and that would be an awful way to lose the super bowl. Davis will definitely produce vs. Atlanta D!! Good luck and happy holidays!

This. For a wr/te the chances of losing are not that great - but if I had a lead and only a qb remaining I would definitely do this move. Historically in our league only qbs have a legit chance of getting less than 0 due to int. If my opponent was done, I was up by a few points and had a qb remaining, I would DEFINITELY do that just to spite the fantasy gods.

I'm just gonna leave Davis in. If I lose, I lose. F it.

Not worth feeling like I punked out which is how is feel if I out a backup te in there instead.

No chance he gets -4. But if he does, this thread will be an all-time great.

To get -4, he'd have to lose 2 fumbles.

Since they're not likely to run the ball with him, that means he'd have to get 2 catches. If it's PPR, you've already got 2 points there.

He averages 16 yards a catch--so he's probably pushing 30 yards on those 2 catches.

Just not likely enough. He's been on some unholy tear of late. TD in 5 straight, 6 of his last 7, 9 in his last 10. Start him, watch the game tonight and enjoy a "victory lap."

I imagine a vd goose egg will wreck a ton of fantasy football sb dreams tonight.

Surreal...I bet you were sweating it out big time. Two fumbles sounded totally unlikely but then again a goose egg for a hot player facing a bad D didn't sound too likely, either. Anyway, congrats, glad it worked out for you.

Do you say the same thing when a QB takes a knee at the end of the game to run the clock out, instead of running a play?

This is the exact same concept

Not even close. The only reason he would have been able to do this with Davis is because this game happened to be scheduled for MNF many months ago, when Atlanta was thought to be a Super Bowl contender. If it was scheduled for SNF instead, it would have been a 4pm start and he never would have thought about benching him because it would have been stupid.

That being said, I don't think this violates the "spirit of the game", whatever that means when we're talking about fantasy.

Actually, pretty close. Say it's MNF in week 16, and the game has gone into overtime. There are 2 minutes left and the score is still tied. With a tie, Team A guarantees their spot in the playoffs. If they lose, they are out of the playoffs. Should Team A try to win the game, or take a knee?
