Just noticed the little rewind symbol next to some shows. Allows you to change the channel to a show in the middle of progress, hit the back button twice, and brings you to the beginning of that show.

very cool.

Started last weekend. Doesn't let you skip commercials though.

Still beats the pants off The Hopper

My wife was asking me about this.

Where is it getting the data from? The unit can't be buffering every show. Is it related to which shows are already on demand?

Yeah, it must be. It goes into streaming mode.
It's just reserving bandwidth to stream those shows. Same way PPV works.
I've only done ondemand if I forget to record something or we lose power/signal, so it's usually a few days after. How fast are they usually available after the showing?

It's during the showing. So they don't reserve the bandwidth for long. Basically if you turn to the show while it's still broadcasting, even if it's in the last minute, you can stream from the beginning. Once the scheduled time of the show is over, you can't access it any longer except through the internet connected on demand feature

Ah, gotcha. I don't remember the last time I watched PPV. You're able to rewind to the beginning if you don't start on time?

so yeah, more like PPV than ondemand.

There is start anytime PPV

What's funny is that I got the first model Tivo ( maybe in 2000-2001?) and was explaining it to friend. He asked" so you can go to a channel and start that show from the beginning?" and I said no you can't do that. He just said "so what good is it?"

First thing I thought of when I saw that.

 I can do that with any Primetime show on the big 4 networks on my Hopper. Any pattern as to which shows are "eligible" for the feature on DTV?
