WR A.J. Brown, PHI (9 Viewers)

Unbelievable

I'm not sure I can remember what seemed to be a sure stud just absolutely not even being in the top 100 without an injury occuring
Never have seen such an elite player ignored and underutilized to this extent.

2 targets in the 1st Q, one more with only seconds left in the game. Went basically 3 Q's without a target, mind blowing.

Between AJB, Jefferson, Bucky and Burrow my season has been an absolute train wreck.

At least the Vikings try to get Jefferson the ball (12 targets last game) AJB is just ignored.

Dude is going nuclear on MNF, I'm just telling you now...
If by nuclear you meant destroy every fantasy team starting him then congrats on this call.
Man I was way wrong on this, but who could have predicted a 10-7 game at the same time. Just a terrible fantasy game for anyone involved.

I hate this year.
You are correct. That said, did you see anything at all promising? We will soon be thru the bye week madness and the decision to start AJ will be tough.

Davonta Smith will prove to be the WR in Philly to own this season and moving forward. Mark my words.
A quarter of the way through the season, this is holding true. I'm still confident in this prediction.
Halfway through the season, Davonta is ranked WR12 with 109.7 points in my league. AJ Brown is ranked WR40 with 74.30 points.
Interesting that one big game separtes being a WR1 from bench fodder. I guess this separation will open up but it seems like we are deep in the season.

Really clear that either AJB is cooked or Hurts just hates him.

Brown is not cooked. We have seen him open time and time again. Hurts rarely looks his way. That's the problem.

Yup. He hates AJB.

I did not. In fact, I became more pessimistic. Coming out of a bye week, I was expecting them to be fired up with new stuff, building on the previous weeks of success and they came out with what seemed like a very basic offensive game plan with not much creativity at all. Again.

This is what I thought as well. Their offense is boring. Just line up and go.

The Philly offensive coordinator may have had his worst game of the year last night. He really did try his hardest to cost them the game with his ultra conservative play calling. I’m curious what his rationale was for that.

It’s tough because one of his most explosive weapons gets ignored even when wide open. AJB was wide open for 20-30 yards multiple times. Hurts just didn’t even look at him.

I think the reality is that Hurts has become more and more conservative in his play since 2023. Davonta is a knife thru butter with his route running. AJB is a battering ram that does not get the same separation as Smith. A big part of what makes Brown so good is his ability to win 50/50 balls. I think Jalen doesn’t look his way as much because in his mind a 50/50 ball is just that-a coin flip that results in a big play or a pick. (I’m not saying that I think that/far from it) but Jalen knows that when he doesn’t turn the ball over they basically never lose. It’s that simple IMO.

We have a defense that for most of the game was blanking the home team. Ball control, win the TO battle and play lights out defense was clearly their MO last night as it usually is.

This is what this team has done for the last 2.5 years. The offense played lights out in the NFCCG and the SB, but most of last season was this type of game. Keep it close, control the clock, don’t turn it over, let the defense cook.

The only outlier year was 2022, when Jalen probably was the MVP if not for the injury against GB late in the year. The defense on that squad and the Jalen fumble was why they lost the SB that year. I think Nick and Jalen have never forgotten that.

AJB is WR40.

Terrible, but these busts happen every year. FFers just have short memories. Tyreek Hill was drafted as the #1 overall WR last year. Deebo Samuel's ADP last year was the exact same spot as AJB's was this year and Deebo finished as WR41.

Pre-season ADP and actual ppg production...

AJB 2025
Pre-season: WR10
Production: WR40

Deebo 2024
Pre-season: WR10
Production: WR41

Every year.

But some of his decisions made no sense at all. Like at the end of the first half, what is the downside of attempting to get into FG range?

Brown was my 2nd round pick in League Uno. Hasn't been fun. I have no thoughts of removing him from my weekly lineup. I'm invested and all in. His next 3 opponents are promising. Giddy up.

I agree. I’m defending, just saying what I think is happening .

Thing that gets me is the HC/OC seem perfectly fine with only scoring 10 points.

I get that they won, but truly great players and coaches always want more. Good coaches scheme ways to get their best players involved.

These coaches and even QB seem perfectly happy in avoiding using AJB. Hurts barely even looks his way.

It's getting harder and harder to start Brown with any confidence at all — through no fault of his own. Philly's approach to throwing the damn ball is killing his season.

Nonetheless… accepting week-destroying points in your WR corps, while waiting for that ONE good performance every 4-5 games, has become an untenable strategy. I seriously don't know what to do with him. I don't want to drop him. But there are more productive WR2s out there who can be helping me win weeks.

Brown's career trajectory has been interesting.
TEN - Bad spot that turned out to be a good spot
PHI - Bad spot that turned out to be a good spot that became a bad spot

His talent has never been the issue, and has shone in both his "bad" landing spots.

Exactly. No matter how good the defense is playing, the mindset of a coach cannot be that they’re content only scoring 10 points because they know the other team can’t score that many. That game was a coin flip and mainly because of the conservative coaching. I believe Philly was the better team and should have won that game more convincingly.

Bench. Hes had what 2 good games?

Yup! Week 3, and Week 7.

The rest have been either mediocre or downright abysmal.

I saw one play where Brown was WIDE open over the middle and Hurts completely ignored him. It looks like it’s personal. Yes, I do believe that QBs will deliberately not throw the ball to WRs they don’t like. Moore is going through the same situation in Chicago.

How do you explain the five straight weeks this year that Brown got 8+ targets? I guess something could have gotten worse between them since then.

AJ was ignored when open, but also certainly had some low effort plays. The 4th down play at the end of the game was disappointing on many levels, but AJ makes an effort, he probably catches it or draws PI. Instead, he just kinda stuck a hand out.

Obviously, it won't be this bad every week, and the schedule is nice going forward. But its 1A/1B at this point, and AJ is the 1B.

Wish I could go back to draft day and punch myself in the **** when his name gets nominated.

Coming out of that day I had Nabers, AJB, Worthy and Bowers as my starting lineup pass catchers (in a PPR). Thought “the championship is mine”. Little did I know that would starting falling apart on the 3rd snap of the season.
