WR Adam Thielen, MIN (2 Viewers)

Adam Thielen was featured on Twitter numerous times during training camp and the preseason making ridiculous catches look routine. As long as he stays healthy, he is in line for another near mortal lock to finish as a top 12 PPR WR.
Agreed.  I am taking him at 2.12 if he is there.

Dalvin Cook has had 14 plus touches in 8 games the last 2 years.  In those 8 games Diggs has 8 TD's,  Thielen has 0.  Granted, that is a small sample size, but it will be interesting to track if Cook stays healthy.
I am not sure I am seeing the connection here.

It seems kind of random and not something that is predictive to me.

Not a lot of talk about Thielen leading up to the season.  He's someone that I'm targeting in most of my drafts.  Was the top WR in fantasy through 8 weeks last year but obviously cooled off after the OC change in Minnesota.  I still think he's a WR1 going for an early WR2 price.  Thoughts on Thielen?
As with most top tier players, there's little to be discussed. He's pretty much automatic as long as he's healthy.

(RotoWire) Thielen caught all three of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against Atlanta.

Analysis: Thielen scored the Vikings first touchdown of the regular season, hauling in a 23-yard score in the first quarter. He wasn't officially targeted again until after halftime, when he caught two more passes of 12 and eight yards. The Vikings jumped out to a 28-0 lead, which limited Kirk Cousins to just 10 pass attempts, so Thielen's three targets were not an indication that he was surpassed by other receivers on the team. The Vikings will play at Lambeau Field in Week 2, meaning they may experience a less positive game script, aiding Thielen's involvement in the offense.

Fantasy football stats to know from Week 3

Excerpt:

5. Adam Thielen ranks eighth among all players in target share, comprising 28.8% of Kirk Cousins‘ targeted throws. Still, he ranks just 74th in targets (15).

Thielen also ranks third in air yardage market share (48%). Unfortunately, that doesn’t really matter when your quarterback is averaging just 21.0 pass attempts per game. For perspective, Kyler Murray leads the league with 45.7 pass attempts per game. Last season, Seattle was the only team to attempt a pass on fewer than 51% of their plays (47.6%), while the league average sat at 58.8%. This season, Minnesota has attempted a pass on just 38.7% of their plays. While this is undoubtedly good news for Dalvin Cook — the early favorite to league the lead in rushing yards — this spells disaster for owners of Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Gary Kubiak and his influence over the offense is mostly to blame, but this is at least partially related to the fact that two of these games have been blowout victories. Expect the team to lean more pass-heavy next week, on the road against a stout Chicago run defense where a positive blowout is unlikely.

Chad Graff @ChadGraff

Adam Thielen: "At some point, you're not going to be able to run the ball for 180 yards, even with the best running back in the NFL. That's when you have to be able to throw the ball. ... You have to be able to hit the deep balls."

Thielen threw everybody a little shade tonight in his impromptu locker stall presser. Sounded like an indictment of everything from the philosophy of the coaches to Cousins's ability to throw the ball where needed.

Oof.

He's 100% right. The super run heavy, play defense model is a really good way to go 7-9. You won't blow games against bad teams, but you won't beat many good teams. There is a very strong case to be made that Minnesota will finish last in the division without getting a lot more from the offense. The only reason it kinda worked for Seattle last year(and even then Wilson had 35 TD's) is because they shared a division with the teams who ended up picking 1-2 in the draft. That certainly isn't happening in the NFC North, and if it somehow did, the Vikings are one of those teams.

Through 4 games, I think the offense is less effective than it was last year. They haven't beaten anybody good, and while its been great for Dalvin Cook owners, I can't imagine Vikings fans are enjoying it.

A lot of money being paid to QB/WR1/WR2 on that team to only use the passing game in case of emergency.

The biggest issue (which it tied to the over usage in the run game) is the complete lack of creativity on offense.  As travdogg said the Vikes will beat the bad teams (likely handily) and will not beat any good team.  Under Zimmer the offense has been very bland and will not get you anywhere even with a great defense and run game.

He’s never played well against the Bears. His very first game against Chicago in 2014 was his best...3-68-1. He’s never again had that many yards or a TD against them

Agreed with a lot that is being said in the various posts above with one little comment to add. Cousins is extremely overrated. My personal opinion aside (I hate the guy), he has never been accurate on long throws and the way their WRs are set up, they need someone who can throw down the field....not cousins strength....at all.

I think not all is on the game play calling and coaches.....so far, Cousins just plain sucks.

If he puts up big numbers against that terrible Giants secondary, I'm going to try to sell high on him immediately.

Vikings have an amazing schedule the next month or so, just littered with awful secondaries. I'd be more inclined to bet on them than against them.

I don’t doubt Thielen or their schedule. It’s Captain Kirk and how little they throw the ball that has me worried

Hoping this is a trend and not a one week squeaky wheel thing. I know he won’t get fed this much very often but any bump in targets for ros would be good.

It was against the terrible Giants secondary/defense so keep that in mind...….

3 of the Vikings next 4 are against pretty awful secondaries. Phi, Was, KC, with a very boom/bust Det mixed in.

I'm treating Thielen as a solid WR2 going forward.

(RotoWire) Thielen was absent from Thursday's practice due to an illness, Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Analysis: Thielen wasn't listed on the Vikings' first Week 6 injury report, but according to Craig's source, the wide receiver began to feel sick Wednesday and is "legitimately" under the weather. Consequently, Thielen's status will be one to monitor as the weekend draws closer. If he's not 100 percent or held out Sunday against the Eagles, Bisi Johnson and Laquon Treadwell would experience an uptick in snaps alongside starter Stefon Diggs.

Adam Thielen hauled in one of his two targets for a 25-yard touchdown before exiting in the first half of Week 7 against the Lions.

Thielen's hamstring was injured on a diving 25-yard touchdown catch that saw Kirk Cousins nail the 29-year-old behind two defenders on a beautiful bootleg play-action toss from outside the pocket. It's unfortunate as Thielen (along with teammate Stefon Diggs) had both hit their strides from Cousins of late, seeing the former spike four touchdowns in Minnesota's past three games. Time will tell on the extent of Thielen's injury since he was in noticeable pain and agitated on the sideline. He was replaced by rookie Olabisi Johnson.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Adam Thielen (hamstring) is "optimistic" he'll play in Week 8 against Washington.

The player usually considers himself ready to play, but Monday's MRI should tell all. The Vikings have a short turnaround to get prepped for Thursday Night Football, so it's truly a question mark whether Thielen will be ready nearly 96 hours later after being unable to return with his nagging soft tissue injury from the first quarter on. Rookie Olabisi Johnson — 4/40/1 in the interim versus Detroit — is the next man up.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Adam Thielen (hamstring) is 'unlikely' to play Thursday against Washington.

Thielen personally is "optimistic" he'll continue his consecutive 87-game playing streak on Thursday, but all signs point to rookie Olabisi Johnson starting in his place. Even so, Pelissero adds there's "optimism he won't miss much time." With both the Ravens and Cowboys on bye, Johnson should be viewed as a streaming WR4/FLEX for those in a pinch for Week 8 against Washington.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Adam Thielen (hamstring) is targeting a Week 9 return.

Thielen is reportedly aiming to return in Week 9 against the Chiefs. Ian Rapoport has also reported that it's unlikely the Vikings' stud WR suits up for the team's Thursday night matchup against the Redskins. Olabisi Johnson will start in Thielen's place if he's ultimately sidelined. Johnson caught 4-of-8 targets for 40 yards and a touchdown against the Lions. He's in play as a solid streaming option, although it'd be far from shocking if the Vikings run the ball as much as possible as 16-point home favorites.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Adam Thielen (hamstring) is "improving fast" and has "a chance" to play Thursday against Washington.

Dreariness has turned into optimism overnight as Thielen suddenly sounds like he's headed for a true game-time call. There's always the chance he's "active" and not actually active from a participation standpoint against Washington, but fantasy players would likely be coaxed into starting him if he's officially in barring any reported limitations. There's low target floor potential for all involved given that Minnesota's run-first offense is laying -15.5 points at home.

This could be one of those David Johnson scenario this past weekend. They might say he's good to go when Thursday night comes, plays two snaps, nope....no go...let's rest him.....and we are all crying again....
