WR Brandin Cooks, NO (1 Viewer)

It’s def a very, very interesting situation

Cooks has never profiled as a WR1. Had 129 targets his rookie year, was very inconsistent, and then they drafted Thomas. He’s just not a possession receiver kind of guy. Good deep threat, great ADot. Always in the same range 114-119 targets except for the one year he was hurt (his last year with the Rams.)

now he’s the last man standing, the only genuine playmaker on the team. We could be looking at 150 targets.

I never thought I would see that from Brandon Cooks

Definitely not a possession receiver but fairly consistent year to year as a WR2 or 3 type. Often undervalued, reminds me a lot of Keenan mccardell or Edde kennison during his chiefs years.
but yes, this year could be a career year.

I’ve owned him 3-4 times overall in redraft, and he has always outperformed his ADPP. His 3rd year he was overvalued bc after the 129 target year everyone said “alright, set it and forget it WR1.” Nope.

After that disappointment, seems like he’s been a post-hype sleeper every freaking year. It’s like the community got burned one time and they never forgive him for it.

He never was a WR1. Great FF WR2. this year he’s league winning WR3.

Guys who depend primarily on deep routea are always going to be inconsistent week to week. I would love to see his 2021 route tree breakdown, to see if they have him running a lot of slants and curls and digs, routes that he’s never really been known for.

Who's rolling him out with Mills at QB this week? Tyrod isn't a great passer by any means, but at least he's a vet and he fed Cooks.

I think I'm going to see how Mills looks for the week, and pivot to Rondale or OBJ in one league, Marvin Jones in another.
Glad I didn't follow through with either of these.

Hollywood is banged up. But other than that, if you think he was going to play, you didn’t make a wrong choice here.
Thanks man. Hollywood was banged up the week prior as well and really showed up strong. I am comfortable with the thought process. It's just the outcome I didn't see coming. I've been a Cooks dynasty owner from his rookie season so I should know to trust him when healthy. lol

Choo choo yet again?  I should know better than to question but Hou implied total is 16 points and BUF is #2 vs WR position in fantasy.
I have my doubts too. But it could be garbage time points, when Buffalo has a 4 TD lead in the 4th quarter. Why play Tre'Darious or other key DBs?

Who are you benching him for if you sit him? I'm just going to keep rolling him out unless I have another top 15 option to replace him with. I'll get burned one of these weeks, but it's not like his last 2 weeks were cake matchups.

Davis Mills QB | HOU

Texans' Davis Mills: Shackles to be removed

(41 mins ago) The Texans plan to open up the offense for Mills this week against the Bills, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Mills made his first NFL start Week 3 on just three days preparation. As such, the coaching staff placed limitations on the rookie quarterback. Houston head coach David Culley believes the staff went too far in trying to protect Mills, who threw for 168 yards and a touchdown without turning the ball over. "Moving forward, we'll just get back to doing the things that we had started doing for that first game-and-a-half when Tyrod (Taylor) was our starting quarterback," the coach said. The Texans may want to open up the offense, and they may have no choice against Buffalo. In whatever shape the game takes, it would be helpful to have a running game. Houston's averaged just 2.8 yards per carry the last two weeks.

Yeah I'm starting Cooks.  ODB is the other option.

I was offered Cook and a 4th for my Montgomery (keeper league)

I'm very desperate at Wrs with ARob/D.Smith/Ruggs/Samuel/Kirk

Have Barkley and J.Taylor...

Should I ???

My top 4 receivers are Cooks Kupp, Williams and McLaurin.

So given matchups this week Scary Terry gets the nod.

Sheesh! Nice humble brag 😁

Will roll out the same lineup for the 4th week in a row

WR1 Adams WR2 Lamb WR3 Cooks Flex Sutton

Bench JuJu

Same RBs (Najee & Swift) & TE (Hock)

Lead the league in points

Streaming QBs so it’s not all seashells & balloons

I think I am benching him this week. Have Boyd tonight in one league and Marvin tonight in another league.

Just have a feeling Buffalo will go out to stop him.

I decided for now at least to put Odell in over him.  Bet Cooks still goes 6 for 70 just not 10 for 110.

Starting him this week. I have no choice as my WR corps is thin. Would love to have a better option because I don't like the matchup this week, but I'm rolling him out regardless.

Brandin Cooks caught 5-of-7 targets for 47 yards in Houston's Week 4 loss to Buffalo.

Cooks retained almost all of the air yardage share for the Texans, gobbling up 51.2% of all targeted air yards in the game. The Texans simply had nothing going for then with Davis Mills under center. New England's defense will present an easier test in Week 5 but Cooks' viability can be tied down with this offense and there's now a lot of bad Mills tape out there. He remains a high-floor WR2 as long as Mills can be trusted to not do ... whatever this was ... every week.

Seems matchup proof to me

What am I missing?
A real QB.

True, but 5 catches for 47 yards in a game where the team had 109 total yards and the QB only threw for 87 yards is pretty good.   I don't think anyone drafted him as a starter.   If 9.7 PPR points is his floor I'm happy with that.
This is what I was going to say. We'l be hard pressed to see a worse offensive performance from any team all season and yet Cooks still put up a not-horrible ppr outing. I got a worse game from Tyreek in week 2 with KC putting up 35.

Brandin Cooks caught 9-of-13 targets for 89 yards in Houston's Week 6 loss to Indianapolis.

It's impossible to say that Davis Mills doesn't lock on to Cooks, and even without the two connecting on a real deep pass Cooks still managed a ton of targets. Cooks was targeted once in the end zone but the ball drifted harmlessly away, and was also the target near the goal line of Mills' second interception. He will remain a volume-based WR2/WR3 going forward, including against Arizona in Week 7.

DAVIS MILLSQB, HOUSTON TEXANS

The Athletic's Aaron Reiss reports Davis Mills will start for the Texans in Week 8 against the Rams.

Mills will make his fifth straight start for Houston even after Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) appeared ready to return to the lineup. "We just don't feel Tyrod is ready right now," Houston head coach David Culley said Friday. Taylor was shockingly efficient during this one and a half games as starter before injuring his hamstring. Mills, on the other hand, has been atrocious outside of his Week 5 performance against the Patriots. Mills is a downgrade for everyone in Houston's offense, including Brandin Cooks

A do not start vs the Rams with Mills throwing. Cooks is averaging 45 yards per game in his last 4 starts vs good defenses: BUF, NE, IND, ARI.

I don't have much choice with Adams on COVID and my WR5 on a bye (Bateman.)

Last 4 weeks have been relatively bleak, but two weeks ago v IND Cooks put up 9-89 on 13 targets. Rams are 19th in FFPA to WRs - or put another way, the 14th fewest. Squarely in the middle of the pack.

Week 8 Fantasy Football Stats: Chargers' run D holding Justin Herbert back?

Excerpt:

Brandin Cooks still leads the NFL in weighted opportunity

In weeks 5 to 7 Brandin Cooks ranked among NFL wide receivers: 15th in percentage of his team’s air yards, 20th in percentage of his team targets and 22nd in targets per game.

In Weeks 1 to 3, he led the NFL in the percentage of his team’s air yards, ranked second in percentage of his team’s targets and fifth in targets per game.

The theme here? Tyrod Taylor was his quarterback for most of the first three games. It sounds like the veteran quarterback is close to returning and may well suit up this week. Cooks is a locked-in set-it-and-forget-it WR2 at a minimum when Taylor plays. His buy-low window is closing.

How does the crowd feel about Cooks this week? He's been a solid flex guy for me so far, but I am concerned about the matchup this week.
If Jalen Ramsey is out, he's a possible play. Versus 4 good defenses the past 4 weeks, Cooks has averaged 45 yards. With no TDs. The main hope of garbage time yards & TDs.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Texans are not expected to trade Brandin Cooks ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline.

Cooks took to social media to voice his dissatisfaction with the Texans trading Mark Ingram earlier this week but Rapoport reports that he is a player GM Nick Caserio wants to build around, making it unlikely that the team moves him. Cooks posted a pair of 100-yard games in the first three weeks but has been in a slump with Davis Mills under center. He is averaging 9.1 targets per game, keeping him in the WR2 conversation every week. The elite volume helps offset his poor quarterback play, which knocks both his floor and ceiling projection.

I'm finally benching. I was late to start him this season so have only enjoyed the duds. Playing Higgins Claypool or Toney instead.

Ramsey's status this week?
Active. Cooks only chance is an early blowout game, and Ramsey rests with a big lead.

I don't know if Jalen sat the 4th Q, but Cooks was 1-10-0 after 45 minutes of football.

Finished 6-83-1 thanks to a productive 4th Q, including a 45 yard TD. That was good for 14.5 points in the league where 40+ gets a bonus point and 40+ TDs get three.

Anyway, garbage time or not, that's four weeks of 20+ and five of 17.9 or better (full PPR), and he's WR18 in regular ole non-bonus PPR leagues.
