WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (4 Viewers)

Brandon Aiyuk caught 8-of-8 targets for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 49ers’ Week 1 win over the Steelers.

The 129 yards were a new career high for Aiyuk in a contest where he was looking like the 49ers’ No. 1 receiver over Deebo Samuel. For score No. 1, Aiyuk broke Patrick Peterson’s ankles in the end zone. For No. 2, he caught a tight-coverage dime from Brock Purdy in the end zone, again against Peterson. The fact that Aiyuk drew “only” eight targets was a product of the 49ers going up two scores just 10 minutes into the game. There are still going to be weeks where Samuel or George Kittle wins the usage war, but Aiyuk is doing nothing to dispel the notion he remains a player in ascendance. He gets the Jalen Ramsey-less Rams for Week 2.

Not great. He's dealing with something:

According to Jack Hammer of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) had a CT scan yesterday that revealed no break in his clavicle area.
The prevailing wisdom is that, if Aiyuk’s CT scan revealed no break, he is most likely dealing with an AC sprain. While the team has stated that his ability to play on Thursday will be “all about pain tolerance,” an injury to the AC joint will make it difficult to reach out to make catches and could also create pain if he were to land on his shoulder. When Mark Andrews sprained his AC joint last year, he missed a little over a week while more severe sprains have kept players out for up to a month. All of which makes Aiyuk’s status for Thursday Night Football feel precarious.

You play him if he plays unless you have just as good of options, or something close.

No doubt about that.

Minus him starting, I'm desperate for a fill in and looking at the likes of KJ Osborn who could be in a shootout vs LAC.

At least if Aiyuk is out, you know by Thursday.

Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) is questionable for Week 3 against the Giants.
Aiyuk underwent testing on his shoulder that did not reveal any broken bones. He is expected to have suffered an AC sprain. Though it isn’t a long-term issue, the injury could prevent him from playing on Thursday. Given the short turnaround, it would make sense for the 49ers to hold him out this week and give him extra time to recover. If he can’t go, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle will both get big spikes to their Week 3 fantasy outlooks.

My alternatives are DHop, Meyers and Dell. DHop vs a limited Aiyuk is a little tempting, but I think I still stick with him. Hopefully we get a little more insight before tomorrow night

Glad there was no break and it's just a pain tolerance thing, but I can't help wonder if SF limits him this week with how the Giants been playing. It's a long season and they should have no prob powering right through NYG without putting him at risk.

If he plays something tells me it will be a decoy role unless he breaks open. So 4-5 grabs and 50 yrds is what I feel like is going to happen unfortunately.

Will I still put him out there, probably lol

I'd probably take 5-50-0. Not sure I can find that elsewhere.

Have E. Moore and T. Dell (waiver pickup). Could throw a dart with KJ Osborne in the MN/LAC shootout.

If I'm San Fran I'd sit him tonight and give him the extra 10 days, especially considering the opponent.

Not saying it's gonna happen, but I was at a Patriots game a LONG time ago, they were playing the Jets and it was Namaths last year in N.Y.
The Pats were very much in contention for the playoffs,The Jets I think won 4 games or something near that.
Joe Willie reached back to his youth and stunned The Pats,I mean he tore them apart. And I remember that quote being put up on the scoreboard as the game ended.
And I remember Patriot fans giving Joe a standing ovation as he left the field.
Anyway I think The Niners win but this just jogged a memory, sorry I'm rambling. Bartender one more please!

Sounds like heals healing nicely and Deebo sounds more banged up then Aiyuk currently. Might be going out there less than 100% but that's football

Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) practiced on Friday.

Aiyuk has been limited in every practiced throughout the week and has a good chance of playing in Week 4 against the Cardinals. Aiyuk’s return could be crucial for the 49ers, as Deebo Samuel (ribs/knee) has yet to practice this week and is at risk of missing the game. Aiyuk could operate as the 49ers WR1 if he’s active and Samuel is held out, which should be enough to lock him in as a top-24 play this week.

Coach Yac
Brandon Aiyuk has 17 catches this season. All of those resulted in either a first down or a touchdown
This guy is turning into a stud.

He IS there downfield target.

Everyone complains about the volume, but the quality of target is superb with Purdy right now.

He's a WR1 in my book. Someone mentioned it earlier in this thread or somewhere else, so I don't want to steal their quote.

But essentially, the only difference between him and S Diggs is the Quarterback. I was a previous detractor, but drafted him quite a bit as my WR when he fell. League winner. Super good value where you drafted him. Everyone wanted Deebo.

Trading him in dynasty last year for tua after his hot start was a mistake I think! Happy to have Tua healthy but this guy keeps ascending. Thought he would just be a Brandon cooks type of player

As I mentioned upthread, he's in a contract year and going to get paid big time next year. Not sure SF will be the one to pony up though.

He's a first-rounder so he's got an option year that I think they already picked up.

Yeah, they did. $14.2 million. They question is whether he agitates for a long-term deal before playing the final year of his contract.

My bad - I didn't see they picked up his option. Makes perfect sense.

He started out looking unstoppable. His non-usage in the 2nd half is a bit baffling.

Was it lack of use or did MIN really shift to try to bracket him?
They must have rolled coverage his way. 2nd half it was all Kittle and J. Jennings. Smart move by MN because Aiyuk was going to torch them.

Bummer for me.
That helps explain the pain, of his lack of production. But explanation or not, it still hurts.

In a short bench league ( exactly 4 wrs, start 3 of them), I got Aiyuk as my 4th picked wr (yeah, don't ask about my starting rbs [sigh]). Even so, I find myself this week wondering if I should drop him for Tee Higgins (not doing so well, so far either) or DIontae Johnson. I really bought the hype that he was going to finish as a top-15 wr this year. But now I am wondering.

Surely the 49ers will regain their offensive groove? Perhaps having Deebo makes Aiyuk more inconsistent... but perhaps the inconsistency... is his ceiling? That is, we are seeing his floor (I hope), maybe Deebo's presence gives him more opportunity to reach his ceiling? Or is it just the nightmare that after a full offseason together, SF has turned into the McCaffrey show? Or that Brock Purdy has regressed - although the pressure he was under, my goodness!

Anyone able to read the tea leaves better than I?

What I find baffling is Aiyuk was really effective on rush plays his rookie year but the 49ers never use him anymore. Yeah they have Cmac but Deebo is out. Aiyuk could have a couple designed run plays per game if he is getting bracketed in the passing game.

Aiyuk pops on every metric for a WR I've ever read. According to ESPNAnalytics.com Aiyuk is the most "open" WR in the league. This guy is a legit stud - my hope is Purdy doesn't hold him back.

He’s frustrating to own in fantasy because everything about him screams elite NFL WR except for the usage. He’s a fantasy WR2 who could be a fantasy WR1 with the proper volume. Aiyuk had a prime opportunity to show that with Deebo out this week and Shanahan elected to run his dinged up RB to the ground instead of trusting Aiyuk. The man is a route technician, look for him and get him the ball.

Purdy in concussion protocol.

Yikes.

Suddenly wheals falling off SF.

Could be ALL CMC against Cinci.
49'ers have tons of injuries every year it seems. Pretty sure its CMC's turn.
Joking of course.... but not joking about 49'ers injuries. it seems like every year they have a lot of them.
Not sure if its the turf, the training program or the way they run their practices.... but it is not good.

other than a scramble and bad throw across the body by Purdy - Ayiuk was got zero looks in the 2nd half. Purdy was even throwing into tight coverage to McLeod and Jennings. So either Purdy got a text from his gf at halftime and she told him she's having Ayiuk's baby, or he turned into the pumpkin that made him Mr Irrelevant

Aiyuk is clutch. 30 receptions out of 43 targets, yards per target at 11.9, 82.5 yards per game this season, and an even more important stat: 25 !st downs. And I don't even have the stat in front of me of when those 1st downs came on 3rd and long.

Brandon Aiyuk has elite metrics, gets the most separation of any WR in the NFL, very efficient. But still gets very little in terms of targets. 3 targets today, for 3/55/1. His 55 targets on the season ties him for 48th in the league with Kendrick Bourne (whose season ended two weeks ago). There are TWO Ravens with more targets than Aiyuk (Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews) and that team hates to pass almost as much as the 49ers do.

He’s my team’s WR2 and I’m not sure what to do ROS. Tank Dell would be my other option. Tank has 25 targets in his last two games, Aiyuk has 28 targets in his last FOUR games. Tank also has as many TD’s his last two games as Aiyuk has in eight games (3). I’m just worried game script will render Aiyuk nearly useless for the second half of most games given how the 49ers can dominate and control the clock. Imagine how studly his numbers would be if he had true WR1 target volume. Currently 11th in receiving yards per game despite so few receptions. His targets, receptions, yards, and TDs are similar to Nico Collins this season. Ugh and then there’s Noah Brown.

Have to hope for more game scripts where he gets his (before today) average of 7+ targets per game. And yes, with his elite traits, increasing that even by 1-2 per contest could pay off nicely.
