Brandon Aiyuk caught 8-of-8 targets for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 49ers’ Week 1 win over the Steelers.
The 129 yards were a new career high for Aiyuk in a contest where he was looking like the 49ers’ No. 1 receiver over Deebo Samuel. For score No. 1, Aiyuk broke Patrick Peterson’s ankles in the end zone. For No. 2, he caught a tight-coverage dime from Brock Purdy in the end zone, again against Peterson. The fact that Aiyuk drew “only” eight targets was a product of the 49ers going up two scores just 10 minutes into the game. There are still going to be weeks where Samuel or George Kittle wins the usage war, but Aiyuk is doing nothing to dispel the notion he remains a player in ascendance. He gets the Jalen Ramsey-less Rams for Week 2.

I remember it like it was yesterdayRemember when Deebo was #1?
He did, kept going in and out of the game, but was more of a decoy. Update I saw said he wouldn't have practiced today (they had the day off).Anybody see any updates on this shoulder injury he sustained?
Think he went back in the game.
You play him if he plays unless you have just as good of options, or something close. Not great. He's dealing with something:
According to Jack Hammer of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) had a CT scan yesterday that revealed no break in his clavicle area.
The prevailing wisdom is that, if Aiyuk’s CT scan revealed no break, he is most likely dealing with an AC sprain. While the team has stated that his ability to play on Thursday will be “all about pain tolerance,” an injury to the AC joint will make it difficult to reach out to make catches and could also create pain if he were to land on his shoulder. When Mark Andrews sprained his AC joint last year, he missed a little over a week while more severe sprains have kept players out for up to a month. All of which makes Aiyuk’s status for Thursday Night Football feel precarious.
No doubt about that. You play him if he plays unless you have just as good of options, or something close. Not great. He's dealing with something:

Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) is questionable for Week 3 against the Giants.
Aiyuk underwent testing on his shoulder that did not reveal any broken bones. He is expected to have suffered an AC sprain. Though it isn’t a long-term issue, the injury could prevent him from playing on Thursday. Given the short turnaround, it would make sense for the 49ers to hold him out this week and give him extra time to recover. If he can’t go, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle will both get big spikes to their Week 3 fantasy outlooks.
My alternatives are DHop, Meyers and Dell. DHop vs a limited Aiyuk is a little tempting, but I think I still stick with him. Hopefully we get a little more insight before tomorrow nightYou play him if he plays unless you have just as good of options, or something close. Not great. He's dealing with something:

Glad there was no break and it's just a pain tolerance thing, but I can't help wonder if SF limits him this week with how the Giants been playing. It's a long season and they should have no prob powering right through NYG without putting him at risk.
If he plays something tells me it will be a decoy role unless he breaks open. So 4-5 grabs and 50 yrds is what I feel like is going to happen unfortunately.
Will I still put him out there, probably lol
Yeah, short week. I hope he sits. I don’t think they need him to beat NYG.If I'm San Fran I'd sit him tonight and give him the extra 10 days, especially considering the opponent.
Out tonight according to Adam Schefter

Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) practiced on Friday.
Aiyuk has been limited in every practiced throughout the week and has a good chance of playing in Week 4 against the Cardinals. Aiyuk’s return could be crucial for the 49ers, as Deebo Samuel (ribs/knee) has yet to practice this week and is at risk of missing the game. Aiyuk could operate as the 49ers WR1 if he’s active and Samuel is held out, which should be enough to lock him in as a top-24 play this week.
Coach Yac
Brandon Aiyuk has 17 catches this season. All of those resulted in either a first down or a touchdown

He IS there downfield target.
Everyone complains about the volume, but the quality of target is superb with Purdy right now.
As I mentioned upthread, he's in a contract year and going to get paid big time next year. Not sure SF will be the one to pony up though.Trading him in dynasty last year for tua after his hot start was a mistake I think! Happy to have Tua healthy but this guy keeps ascending. Thought he would just be a Brandon cooks type of player

My bad - I didn't see they picked up his option. Makes perfect sense. As I mentioned upthread, he's in a contract year and going to get paid big time next year. Not sure SF will be the one to pony up though.
He's a first-rounder so he's got an option year that I think they already picked up.
Yeah, they did. $14.2 million. They question is whether he agitates for a long-term deal before playing the final year of his contract.
He started out looking unstoppable. His non-usage in the 2nd half is a bit baffling.
They must have rolled coverage his way. 2nd half it was all Kittle and J. Jennings. Smart move by MN because Aiyuk was going to torch them.He started out looking unstoppable. His non-usage in the 2nd half is a bit baffling.
Was it lack of use or did MIN really shift to try to bracket him?
That helps explain the pain, of his lack of production. But explanation or not, it still hurts. They must have rolled coverage his way. 2nd half it was all Kittle and J. Jennings. Bummer for me.
What I find baffling is Aiyuk was really effective on rush plays his rookie year but the 49ers never use him anymore. Yeah they have Cmac but Deebo is out. Aiyuk could have a couple designed run plays per game if he is getting bracketed in the passing game.He started out looking unstoppable. His non-usage in the 2nd half is a bit baffling.
He’s frustrating to own in fantasy because everything about him screams elite NFL WR except for the usage. He’s a fantasy WR2 who could be a fantasy WR1 with the proper volume. Aiyuk had a prime opportunity to show that with Deebo out this week and Shanahan elected to run his dinged up RB to the ground instead of trusting Aiyuk. The man is a route technician, look for him and get him the ball.Aiyuk pops on every metric for a WR I've ever read. According to ESPNAnalytics.com Aiyuk is the most "open" WR in the league. This guy is a legit stud - my hope is Purdy doesn't hold him back.
49'ers have tons of injuries every year it seems. Pretty sure its CMC's turn.Purdy in concussion protocol.
Yikes.
Suddenly wheals falling off SF.
Could be ALL CMC against Cinci.
Same....Aiyuk plays well when you actually throw the ball to him:
