WR Cedric Tillman, CLE (3 Viewers)

2023 NFL Draft: Cedric Tillman Declares for Draft

One of the more anticipated prospects coming into the year, Tennessee Volunteer Cedric Tillman, is headed for the NFL. "A high-potential player who has put up big-time stats and could end up being one of the better receivers in the class."

While the Volunteers had their best season in recent memory, Tillman was only there for a portion of it after suffering an early-season ankle injury.

Tillman was widely regarded as a first-round pick and one of the best receivers in the class before the season, with the hype dying down since.

The tape he produced in 2021 is still unquestionable, and his skillset translates easily to the NFL. If he can prove healthy and blow away athletic testing, don't be surprised if Tillman creeps up draft boards as we approach April.

Anyone else got an opinion on this guy ? He’s one of my favourite WRs in this class and one I’ll be targeting.

One of the few in this class with prototypical size . Feel like he’s being marked down for being older

I’m a fan. I feel like there’s a big tier of WR Who are very underrated in this class. Parsing the wheat from the chaff is going to be challenging.

But Tillman has a lot of qualities that I think will make him a competent NFL player.

Tillman is on my late 2nd round target list. Some of my concern for him was Hyatt did so well when Tillman out that OC schemed Hyatt to compensate
There is a lot to like on Tillman. He is a forgotten man in this class due to his injury

I'm a fan, and figured I'm missing something terrible given the lack of love from the Twitter Dynasty community.

His tape reminds me a ton of college Mike Evans.

Not saying he's as good or will be as good. But yeah, late 2nd, sign me up all day.

Bold Take, there's a good chance he has a better fantasy football career than Hyatt.

Tillman
6’3
213 lbs
BMI 26.6
4.54 40
37 inch vert
10’8 Broad

Mike Evans
6’5
231 lbs
BMI 27.4
4.53 40
37 inch vert

Evans is a unicorn with his size and speed combo. When I watch Tillman’s college tape, Evans comes to mind, so I wanted to compare the 2.

I feel Tillman had a very good combine. I think he can and will succeed at the next level. I still think he can outproduce Hyatt at the next level. But the good news is, we won’t have to pick between the two. Tillman is probably going Day 2 and will cost a lot less in your rookie drafts.

Cos 13 wide receivers got taken in the 1st 2 rounds last year and he probably wouldn't have been one of them.

He probably won't get taken in the 1st 2 rounds this year, but he definitely wouldn't last year.
Well yeah thats my point. The NFL telling an SEC senior WR that they aren’t interested is a bad sign.

Browns selected Tennessee WR Cedric Tillman with the No. 74 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Tillman (6’3/213) first burst on the scene in 2021 as the WR1 in Tennessee’s offense. Tillman’s breakout directly coincided with the emergence of quarterback Hendon Hooker. A perfect compliment to Hooker’s downfield capabilities, Tillman posted a line of 64-1,081-12 while averaging 16.9 YPR. This was highlighted by 10 receptions for 200 yards and a score against Georgia. What looked to be a promising 2022 was quickly derailed by a high-ankle sprain, which limited him to just six games in his final season (37-417-3). His efficiency last season took a substantial hit, but that can likely be chalked up to his injury. Tillman could work his way into the WR2 role in Cleveland, behind Amari Cooper.

JJ Zachariason talked about how Cleveland was likely looking at DPJs contract running out after this season and drafting his replacement this year. That makes sense as they do have to be smart with money given how much cap is dedicated to Watson. It's a crowded receiving corps now, but he could look like the clear starting outside wr going into 2024.

Browns signed No. 74 overall pick Cedric Tillman to a four-year contract.

What kind of immediate upside Tillman can give is a little unknown, as Amari Cooper and David Njoku figure to be the pillars of the passing game and the Browns also brought in Elijah Moore this offseason. Tillman will likely have to get past Donovan Peoples-Jones and Marquise Goodwin for early playing time. He's an intriguing dynasty project, but probably not someone who makes sense for re-draft leagues until we can build some buzz that he has a real role.

Biggest takeaways from Browns rookie minicamp 2023 - Ashley Bastock

Excerpt:

Cedric Tillman passed the eye test

I wrote a newsletter about this that our Football Insider subscribers received in their inboxes over the weekend, but it’s worth re-visiting.

Considering there is no contact, players aren’t in pads and they aren’t mixed in with their veteran teammates in rookie minicamp, there’s only so much that can be gleaned from the actual on-the-field work.

That’s why one of the most important tests of all during rookie minicamp is the eye test, and it’s one that Tillman passed.No. 1, he just looked like an NFL player out there amongst the other receivers.

He lived up to his 6-foot-3, 213-pound frame. And No. 2 he wasn’t dropping a ton of passes -- something that can unfortunately be a memory of a rookie that sticks if it happens over this particular weekend.

Tillman looked fluid catching passes from his former high school teammate, QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and created excitement for the possibility of what he can look like teamed up with Deshaun Watson in the coming weeks and months.

Basically, if nothing else, Tillman had a great first impression, and that’s all you can really ask for.

Cedric Tillman Should get Extended Look in OTAs
Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Cedric Tillman stands to get plenty of reps in OTAS as Amari Cooper isn't expected to do much.
...Tillman is going to be cross-trained to play multiple receiver roles, so that if he excels, the Browns can find ways to get on the field...
... The Browns are going to want Amari Cooper to get a ton of reps with Deshaun Watson when he's s fully healthy to make sure those two have chemistry heading into the season. Until then, the Browns are going to take full advantage of this sneak peak of what they just added in Cedric Tillman.

Rookie Year Expectations For Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Cedric Tillman

Looking back on how rookie wide receivers have performed in the past and how Cedric Tillman might do for the Cleveland Browns this year.

...

CONCLUSION

So we have 17 wide receivers drafted in the third round across the last five seasons, here is what they averaged out at over this time
36 Targets
22 Receptions
282 Yards
2 TD
62.1 PFF Grade
If Tillman can get this during the 2023 season then it will be a good return for a wide receiver taken in the third round, this is quite close to what David Bell achieved last year so keep that in mind with rookie expectations.

Go to the link at the top for the full read.

Not sure he'll such a ton of yardage w cooper, moore and njoku, but he'll get some. And could be a killer RZ weapon for watson
