WR DeAndre Hopkins, BAL (2 Viewers)

DeAndre Hopkins caught 5-of-12 targets for 54 yards in the Cardinals' Week 14 loss to the Rams.

On a night Kyler Murray attempted a season-high 49 passes, this was Hopkins' first double-digit targets game of the year. He's still yet to have a 100-yard receiving game on the season and hasn't cleared 87 yards. Even with Jalen Ramsey (COVID) out, Hopkins struggled and was draped in Darious Williams' coverage a lot of the night. Hopkins appeared to be injured late on the second-to-last drive when he had a defender fall on him on a jump ball in the end zone. Coach Kliff Kingsbury said after the game it didn't look like a serious injury, so Hopkins should be fine for Week 15 against the Lions. He's become a TD-dependent WR2, though the Lions present one of his easiest matchups of the year.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury said DeAndre Hopkins (leg) will undergo an MRI.

It's unclear when Hopkins suffered his leg injury after recording his first double-digit target game of the year on Monday night. Fingers crossed it's merely precautionary ahead of Arizona's cush Week 15 matchup against Detroit.

What a nightmare season and a massive bust this guy has been. Goes from never missing games to missing most of the season due to a hammy. Even when he played he’s putting up WR3 level yardage, only being bailed out by TDs. He’s no longer the target hog in that offense, which is where most of his value came from. I’ve had him in the past, won titles with him, but his best days are behind him. Father Time is undefeated and things aren’t going to get better going forward. This guy is a hard fade next year. 

 
If he's out this week (and I would suspect that seeking a second opinion isn't usually a good sign), then I am firing up AJ Green in a must-win this week.

Green has been up and down, but he sure looked good Monday night, and we haven't had a chance to see him as the WR1 with Kyler tossing the rock. Hopkins and Kyler were both out the same three weeks, and AJ didn't thrive with Colt McCoy.

IIRC correctly, this was the pre-season scouting of Nuke for 2021:

  • No spring chicken anymore
  • Won't see the lopsided target share as previous years
In other words, temper expectations.

Right, but even tempered expectations would have surpassed the disappointment of this season. This guy’s return on ADP has been horrendous. 

 
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports DeAndre Hopkins (knee) is expected to miss the rest of the regular season. 

Schefter said it remains unclear if Hopkins will need surgery -- he is getting a second opinion -- and the receiver hopes to return during the postseason. Either way, he is done for the fantasy season, so managers will need to look elsewhere for production during the fantasy playoffs. All of Christian Kirk, Rondale Moore, and A.J. Green will get a bump in targets with Hopkins sidelined. Kirk is the most interesting of that group, but all three are in the WR3/FLEX mix against the Lions.

(I know this is the Hopkins thread, but lots of folks will need to replace him so hopefully this is not an inappropriate question.)

I see that Schefter says that Kirk is the wr to pick up.  But the elder statesmen showed well this past week... and what if... Kirk keeps his role and Green takes Hopkins role?  Am I way off base in taking a pretty large leap onto the Green train?

Posted this before the OUT confirmation, although I strongly suspected it. I am on record as saying that Green is the WR to own. 

Yes, Kirk and/or Moore can pop up with a big game at any time without prior notice....but Kyler had big eyes for AJ Monday night. Plus, AJ has proven this season that he can still be productive when given targets, and he is certainly no stranger to being the WR1.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports DeAndre Hopkins will undergo surgery to repair his torn MCL and will miss six weeks.

There are four weeks left in the regular season, so it sounds like Hopkins’ recovery will extend into the playoffs. His campaign ends without a single 100-yard receiving game, producing 30.7 fewer yards per game than he did last year, his first in Arizona. Hopkins, however, did up his touchdown total to eight from six. Hopkins will likely need the Cardinals to advance several rounds in the postseason to make a return this season.

Speaking Tuesday, Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said he expected DeAndre Hopkins (torn MCL) to be healthy within the next month. 

This is in line with reports that Hopkins might have returned for a theoretical NFC Championship Game appearance. The Cardinals, of course, looked more like an expansion team than playoff squad in Hopkins' Monday absence against the Rams. Five months shy of his 30th birthday, Hopkins' cap number shoots up from $12.5 million to $25.1 million in 2022. Despite this year's injury woes and decreased production before going down, Hopkins will remain the unquestioned centerpiece of an offense that has Christian Kirk, A.J. Green, Zach Ertz, Chase Edmonds and James Conner headed to free agency. Not all those players will walk, but there is no scenario where Hopkins does not remain Arizona's No. 1 weapon. Hopkins had previously missed just two games in eight years before this season's injury fest. Hopefully he can rediscover his durability, though there is a chance his extremely physical style is beginning to catch up with him. Despite all that, he remains a top-12 receiver option for those embarking on offseason re-drafts. It's a different story in Dynasty, where the aging curve has to be considered in effect until confirmed otherwise.

I have zero idea what to do with him. The injury seal has been broken however. Horrible hamstring pull and now a torn MCL. I think he's off my board next year. I see Conner and Edmonds coming back somehow, along with Kirk and Ertz. AJ Green's a goner.

I think 2 of Kirk, Ertz, Conner, and Edmonds are gone. If I had to guess, I'd say its Edmonds and Kirk who are gone. Kirk due to price tag, and Edmonds due to ease of replacement. I actually think Green might be more likely to be back than Kirk, just because he should be much cheaper. I don't see many teams wanting Green, where Kirk likely draws plenty of interest, and I'm not sure the Cards can afford 2 higher priced WR's. 

I'm expecting a pretty big step forward for Rondale Moore next season, but I think Hopkins still has 1 more top-12 season in him. 

 
Just like Julio and AJ, the fall off for these guys happens quickly. He's done being an impact player in this league. The suspension is just delaying the inevitable

 
NFL suspended WR DeAndre Hopkins six games for violating the Performance Enhancing Drug policy.

Hopkins' suspension will create a major shakeup for the Arizona offense and helps explain why the Cardinals traded for Marquise Brown during the draft. Hopkins will likely appeal this decision but it's a near certainty that he misses some games this season; the Cardinals certainly think so, given the first-round pick they just sent for an outside wide receiver. With Hopkins out, Arizona's three-wide set will likely consist of Brown, A.J. Green, and Rondale Moore in the slot. Moore is arguably the biggest beneficiary, given his uncertain role with Hopkins on the field. Hopkins should be downgraded in all drafts, including dynasty. Entering his age-30 season, Hopkins was already at risk of losing his No. 1 wide receiver status to Brown (Kyler Murray's college teammate). He will now play less than a full season, profiling as a redraft WR3.

He was pretty frustrating to own in fantasy last year, buoyed by TD's. Injures his hamstring, then knee, and won't be the same again most likely. 

He needed to do what was necessary to heal and get back on the field, but now it's cost him. Risk/reward didn't work out this time. 

Either way, yeah, now he's looking like almost dead weight on a dynasty roster. From mid WR1 to that.

As much grief as Bill O’Brien got for trading him, Hopkins really hasn’t been the same since. I mean it was still a bad trade because of the return he got and taking on David Johnson but it didn’t really hurt the Texans much really - not sure who they took with the pick but having Hopkins wouldn’t make them any better.

They did get one really good year out of him.  115-1400-6 the year after he was dealt.

 
DeAndre Hopkins has withdrawn the appeal of his six-game suspension.

Hopkins will now officially miss the first six games of the 2022 season for violating the NFL's Performance Enhancing Drug policy. The timing of the suspension will allow Marquise Brown to hit the ground running in his reunion with his Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray. It will also give 2021 second-round pick Rondale Moore an opportunity to lock down a role in the slot. Either Moore or A.J. Green will become a reserve once Hopkins returns. Hopkins could be a fantasy difference-maker down the stretch, but managers will need to heavily discount him in drafts to reflect his six missed games. He profiles as a WR3/4.

I mean, the guy is 30 years old and he’s only gonna play 12 games at most. and it’s not like he’s been the picture of health. Oh yeah, and now Hollywood is there. 

In this case, you might get what you pay for.
