WR DeSean Jackson (2 Viewers)

Are guys in here really acting like a guy taking a vacation he already had planned before signing his new contract with a new team means something?
No. But you gotta admit the timing is pretty ironic.
After the ##### that was just written about him you can NOT have this written about you, period.

F'ing dude's a millionaire and can vacation all off-season if he wanted.
He can and he did. It's a voluntary workout and coaches aren't even allowed to talk to the players while they are on the field or even working out.

It was already planned, he told the team about it before he signed the deal, and everyone that needs to be ok with it is ok with it.

But for the sake of appearance to some trolling reporters or anonymous posters on an internet board he should make a decision counter to common sense? Ok, got it.

Given all the reports about him you think the common sense was to NOT go? :lmao:

I suppose if he is someone who lives his life based on reports from anonymous sources then maybe he should have gone.

But since it was discussed before he signed his deal and his new team had no problem with it, then I think any objective and practical person can see why he went ahead with his vacation.

For all we know, he could have offered to come and the team could have said no, your vacation will be good for you. We'll see you in a couple of weeks ready to work.

But apparently it's much more fun for people like you to spin BS and put a lmao emoticon after 90% of your posts. Carry on.

In a vacuum its not a big deal. But when you say you've been unfairly characterized as a "me first" player and the very first chance you have to get to know your new coach and teammates and you can't make it....

I bet the D.C. media made a note of it as well. Was it brought up on talk radio today?

Do you feel justifying the release of one of the Eagles best players, and the subsequent signing with a rival, is the best use of your time? Let's just wait and see how it all plays out. Maybe it backfires disastrously on us and you'll have the last laugh. But right now you just look desperate for any evidence that this will turn out badly for us. It's not a good look.

You never know, it's not the Patriots you are dealing with. There's a reason the Skins are the Skins. For the record I'm not referring to the 1990 Skins but the Danny Snyders.

Again, the team knew about his already planned vacation BEFORE he signed and was ok with it. It's not as if the guy called in Monday morning and said, "sorry I can't make it." Plus he's already talked substantially with several veterans on the team and will be at the next phase of workouts in two weeks.

I didn't hear anyone locally make anything of it because it was reported that he told them of his plans BEFORE he signed. Some people understand something that simple, some don't.

I think the point is who gets cut for poor work ethic then when negotiating with new teams instead of canceling to shed the image makes sure new team will let him vaca. Nothing earth shattering just par for the course.

It would be absolutely horrible if this was the first the Skins knew about it; I agree with you on that. But since they knew before a contract was ever signed it's ironic and nothing more.

DeAngelo Hall is missing this week because he's taking his kids to Disney World. He got clearance from Gruden to do it. There's no big deal in that either.

Eagles fans were split pretty evenly on whether cutting Jackson was the right move or not. I believe the poll results were something like 52% for and 48% against.

How long will the 52% feel the need to keep justifying cutting a guy who's already been cut?
From reading subsequent comments, "apparently a pretty long time". :lmao:

Still waiting for you to quote and address the Djax curses out Kelly in front of the team article. :lmao:

Seriously, you should keep pointing out all the real and imagined bad things about Jackson. You might be able to get Chip Kelly to cut him.

Come on BB, you think it's easy to reschedule an island rental? And all his boys have other guys covering the street corners and drive bys, that's a lot of rearranging of schedules. No worries though, he's probably studying the playbook and running routes on the beach, I heard he's a team guy after all.

It's stupid really. The Skins are one of the few teams that have OTAs early because of a new coach. From everything I've heard, he'll be back with the team next week. It's not like he's missing mandatory workouts.

Hell, last year I didn't a start a job on the week they wanted me to because I already had a vacation planned. Does that make me a bad employee?

After being pegged as a selfish, me first player and released, some just may expect him to put the team first and put off a vacation.

Not you guys though :lmao:
In fairness, this happens in "real life" all the time. People that are to start new jobs, but have vacations already planned, let their potential employer know that in advance and it's on the employer to decide if that's ok.

Sure the timing looks bad, but apparently he told the Redskins about it prior to signing the contract and they gave their blessing. He can take a playbook and read it on the plane - it's not like the season starts next week.

I'm not a Redskin fan - just to be clear.

Yup like I said above, I did the same thing when I started a new job last year. He told the team in advance during negotiations. It's not like he didn't give them a heads up or anything. Plus there are called OPTIONAL TEAM ACTIVITIES. Keyword: OPTIONAL.

I'm honestly trying to decide which is the funniest of the above. The "real life" part or the "optional" part...

Hey, in real life do you have millions of people questioning your character and commitment to your team? Maybe you have an agent and a PR team in real life and work for a billionaire.

The optional part is as funny as the "honor your contract" mess you hear....

No dog in this fight at all. If anything I'm more of a Philly fan d/t being a multiple McCoy owner and liking Chip Kelly.

A few of you guys are making yourselves look really, really bitter and bad with the huge amount of butt hurt in here. The Eagles have moved on from DeSean Jackson, obviously. You guys probably should too.

Yes, I am bitter. My team got rid of a guy I was barely a fan of and I am highly upset.

Is that ok or should I have prefaced it with how I don't really have a dog in the race or a real-life experience?

Sounds like you're just bitter you lost DJax. No one gives a crap about OTAs. As a fan, I couldn't care less about them. But just listen to ESPN and the media tell you how important they are. Jay Gruden doesn't seem upset that he's not there, so if he doesn't care, then why should I a random fan?

I'd say the timing of the vacation was unfortunate

if he disclosed it to the team and they are ok, it is no big deal. but it is an unfortunate news blurb for him.

Well, according to Philly fans all he does is run a few deep routes anyway. So missing OTA shouldn't be a problem as he doesn't have much to learn.

while i think this is no big deal, i think you are incorrect about OTAs in general. and with a new coach and a new OC every bit of work a team can get in matters.

but again,, in THIS case he could not have known he would have to be there, and he had already rented an island (how crazy is that)

I just wish I got invited to the island, I bet DJax throws a good party. Just dont piss off his boys. Wonder what an island rental goes for?

Not really. I saw the pics on IG. He just goes to an island that is not far away, that is barely inhabited, and rides ATV's with his boys. And says something to the effect of "This Lyfe, 100!!!" I never ever see any women in any of his pics. Just sayin...

:goodposting:

It's not like he has to learn crossing routes.

It's no big deal that he's missing OTA's. Well aside from pi$$ing off your new teammates with beachfront Instagrams but they're just peons anyway, so who cares.

I was wondering because of all the rumors of him needing cash and getting loans from his agent.

In his defense, I don't think he thought he was going to be released. I believe the other teams' OTAs don't start for another week? So if he was still on the Eagles, this would be a none story. It would be his last vacation before getting back to the grind of the season. I don't fault him for going.

I'd have a problem if this caught the Skins offguard. But since they knew and were fine with it, I don't have a problem. It's not like he probably doesn't already have a playbook to go over. Sure it would be nice if he was there for the meetings and such, but the media goes crazy now when a player misses an "optional" team event. When he starts missing mandatory activities and meetings, then yes, I'll be concerned.

I doubt he will be stupid enough to miss anything mandatory and agree this isnt a big deal just funny. It will probably go similar to the TO/Phi signing with a nice honeymoon year then the true colors come out later. No one would screw up this quick.

Sounds like you're just bitter you lost DJax. No one gives a crap about OTAs. As a fan, I couldn't care less about them. But just listen to ESPN and the media tell you how important they are. Jay Gruden doesn't seem upset that he's not there, so if he doesn't care, then why should I a random fan?
while i think this is no big deal, i think you are incorrect about OTAs in general. and with a new coach and a new OC every bit of work a team can get in matters.

but again,, in THIS case he could not have known he would have to be there, and he had already rented an island (how crazy is that)
In his defense, I don't think he thought he was going to be released.

I agree. I think he'll be on his best behavior this year because he knows everyone is watching. The nice thing for the Skins though, is that if his 2nd year is a headache, then can release him after the season and not be on the hook for anything else.

Are guys in here really acting like a guy taking a vacation he already had planned before signing his new contract with a new team means something?

The "real life" part or the "optional" part...

yeah he did not do anything wrong here

but, i think skins fans are lying to themselves if they don;t say they'd rather have him there. Every rep he can get with RG3 matters. This is unfortunate timing for him. I don't think this will make or break his season, but it is unfortunate

i don;t think this is media hype, i have not seen this blowing up. But yeah, IF he starts skipping optional things it will be a story and should. That's just not really the facts in this situation. Here he had a prior comitment he informed the team about, no harm no foul.

Its a good contract for the team and I think DJax will have a nice year. However his first 2 opportunities to show he's a "team" guy haven't exactly gone that way for him. In his first presser he talks about taking the franchise QBs number and now he's kickin' it on an island while his teammates get to know the new coach.

Its just perception and I'm sure this is a non-issue.

on the number thing

this headline made me, i dunno, chuckle

Mark Rypien will hold DeSean Jackson accountable for wearing his number

The number thing is stupid. I'm sure he may have said something to RG3 about it, but that's probably as far as it went. Again, ESPN and the media making a story out of nothing.

I agree its really nothing. But when asked, he could have just something like "the number doesn't matter...I'm here to play football...#10 is taken....". But he made it about himself when he's trying to prove the perception of him is wrong. So far he's done nothing to change the perception. In his 2 opportunities, he hasn't shown "team first". They're both "me first" responses. Harmless, but "me first".

That's all.

it is not like they ran with it

desean said somehting stupid and they reported it

i get tired of the ESPN/media is the devil commentary, it is as lazy as people claim the media is. Like it or not you learn the bulk of what you know about this team through the media

I leanr about the team through local media guys. ESPN has become the cable news of the sports world. They take any story and run with it. I don't know a single Redskins fan that gave to craps about Desean saying he talked to Robert about #10. What does that matter? With the 24/7 news cycle, they have to talk about something. Just like the RG3 logo. Who gives a crap?

a lot of people give a crap, which is why every local media guy yearns to be on espn reporting to the hoardes of people. Local guys are selling what local fans want national guys are selling what national fans want. The number thing was a blurb, nothing moew. not some conspiracy by ESPN to besmirch desean

in the grand sceheme of things the number thing does not matter, and as I said ESPN did not run a series of reports on "numbergate" it was a blurb

i (as many did) found it an interesting blurb because if Jackson thought there was a snowball's chance in hell he'd get the number 10 he is delusional. Snyder would be more like to rename the team the Washington "sorry for the confusion first american's we really love you posse" then Jackson would be to get #10. Perhaps the comment was a joke, if not i think it does give insight into the importance Desean thinks he has.

is it some horrible red flag that he is going to be a bust? no, but it is something he said, and there's nothing wrong with it being reported.
