WR Diontae Johnson, CAR (1 Viewer)

The owner sounds like a guy who would say “people are calling about availability of dalton? No! He’s mine! Put him in- that’ll show the rest of the GMs!”

he's the worst. I am surprised he hasn't thrown another 300k beer at someone already :ROFLMAO:

what are we expecting from Diontae Johnson now that he has an actual NFL QB throwing him the ball?

Is he start able this week? Do we trust the Red Rocket to give him 8-10 targets. I am leaning towards yes over McLaurin who has been another let down so far this year.

I’m starting him in my flex, but mostly out of necessity (Coleman and Puca my only other options)

It can’t get much worse.

QB change is a big reset button. I drafted him to start in one league and I'm rolling him out there. I'm expecting a 6 catch 80 yard game.
I feel a qb change is a huge reset button when the qb is clearly the problem and has been somewhat of a cancer. Seems to be Young is not a cancer because he’s a captain but that hasn’t stopped others from being cancers lol

It could be a boon, but the ownership still sucks

Thielen about to miss time with hamstring. It's a case study to show how quickly and drastically fantasy football can change. Last week people were dropping Johnson.

I almost dropped him last week but decided against it when the Panthers benched Young. I didn't start Johnson last week but will probably do so next week.
ha, same. I learned a lesson after I dropped A. Cooper after getting 1 pt in week 1 for a shiny waiver pick up a year or two ago. Hopefully, the patience will pay off....

Feels like a 'sell high' opportunity.
I'm definitely open to moving him if someone is looking to buy.

Hilariously, the reason I was a fan of Diontae this year, was Bryce Young. Byrce hyper targeted Theilen last year. Theilen being a year older and likely slower, I thought Diontae would get that role. And Bryce's deficiency's would mean he kept focusing on Diontae 8-10 yards out. Maybe Diontae has 100 catches for 1,000 yards and 5 TD's, but 100 catches in PPR is 100 catches.

Bryce was so bad Diontae couldn't do anything. And now Dalton looks like a competent QB. I think Diontae will be solid so long as Dalton remains the starter. I hope they're committed to him and don't try to force the Bryce Young issue again this year.

Unfortunately, I don't think they will be able to leave Bryce on the bench given the draft capital haul/contract they gave him, unless they're somehow making a playoff run. That's just the business side of things when you have an owner who won't let his prize waste away on the bench.

I thought I heard on a podcast that someone from the organization had commented they want to try to go back to Bryce at some point. Man I hope that's not the case.

It'd be a better protection of the investment to let him sit the rest of the year like he should have last year. Let him watch and learn from a vet to see how the little things are done. The deep investment in him means he's not going anywhere. Most likely the starter for 2025. The goal should be to get him totally prepared for that.

Makes perfect sense, but owners/GMs have this ego thing to prove others that they weren’t wrong and probably don’t want to wait an entire year to do so.

I don't see him ever starting another game for that team unless Dalton gets hurt.
He shouldn't. But he shouldn't have been starting to open the season.

I can't buy that he looked way better in Training camp and practice and just fell apart. I'm guessing he looked bad for a while.

I just assumed the benching was a temporary thing. Couple games then back to Bryce. Then I started to think maybe it isn't. Maybe whats best for the investment is to not risk injury and move him in the offseason.

Very true.

Someone had dropped him and putting in claims...Ive got him and Shakir neck and neck. Shakir seems more of a steadier choice, higher floor lower ceiling. With Johnson having the higher ceiling but lower floor.

Am I seeing that right?

Pretty sure everyone sees it that way. Less viable targets in CAR. Gonna be boom/bust every week with Diontae, I think.

Johnson > Shakir in all formats for me

Good to see this blow up from Diontae.

Just got offered Zack Moss and a 3rd for him.

I already have AJB, RRice, Olave, London, Flowers, Odunze, Iosivas in a 10 team PPR start QRRWWTFFF league. My RB2 up to this point has been a revolving door of Chase Brown, Spears, McLaughlin, and now Steele. RB2 is the only piece I’m missing to compete for a championship (I have Daniels at Qb, Walker as RB1, and Bowers at TE).

Do I make the deal? Or wait for more big games and try to get higher value?

I don't think this trade solves your RB2 issue, and even if it did, I still don't think I would like it. Selling high on a nice DJ game feels like it should net something more reliable than Moss.

I don't think Moss that much of an upgrade. I would be shooting for a veteran RB like Conner or Montgomery or Mixon that can come more cheap especially if their owners are not contenders. You have a lot of great young WRs that you can deal to get that better RB2 to put you over the top.

not necessarily.

you go up against the same defense long enough, you tend to learn where you can beat them and where you cannot. for some QB making that adjustment when you are facing a defense you have either not seen for a while or havent seen ever is not that easy.

Thats where some QB struggle as young players. They face their own defense during the whole pre season and can move the ball against them, but other defenses require more adjustments on the fly and that part of the game can take longer to develop.

I’ve never see DJ average that many YPR in my life…

Dalton is definitely in the Joe Flacco **** it mode where he’s just gonna gunsling and try to win games on low probability throws. It’s fun- just not sure if the ceiling is wr1

Starting him over JSN this week.

Am definitely expecting the Panthers to regress to some degree but still seems an easy player to find room for in your lineup.

I'm realistic. Give me solid PPR wr3 numbers with the occasional wr2 and it's a win. 6 catches 70 yards a game with a TD every other week td seems reasonable here.

Based on his time in Pit DJ is short to mid game possession receiver. Good separation and route runner. Hands could be better. Not a deep threat.

One thing overlooked is he pouts and becomes disengaged if not getting “enough” targets. His attitude is a significant reason why IMO Pit traded him in the offseason.
