WR Elijah Moore, CLE (1 Viewer)

Speaking Thursday, Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said the team could consider giving Elijah Moore more snaps from the slot.

LaFleur said moving Moore to the slot would result in the team playing rookie wide receiver Garrett Wilson more on the outside. Wilson has lined up in the slot on 53.7 percent of his snaps per Pro Football Focus, while Moore has seen just 25 percent of his snaps come from the slot. Whether or not this leads to more targets for Moore is to be determined, but the Jets have offered some of the fewest slot targets of any team in the league since Zach Wilson returned in Week 4.

Such a passive aggressive solution to Moore's complaint 😄

Any hope here or drop and forget? Looks like Davis out this week.
Bye week fill-in IMO at best (and hope you pick the right week). Talent is undeniable. Situation is terrible.

Only way he'll have any consistent value possibility IMO this year is someone other than Wilson is under center.

He was able to produce with Wilson last year for a stretch. The running game took a hit with the Breece injury so they will probably be forced to pass a bit more going forward. I love the talent but I do agree it will be tough to count on him this year.

Shocking to see him not getting a single touch.
I would think there must be a trade in the works already, he's going to pitch a fit if they act like nothing is wrong

I thought with Hall gone and Saleh mentoring him they could get him back in the cuts and try a Deebo like game plan but nothing like that is even a thought in their heads right now.

Almost seems intentional, no?
To me yes it does seem that way. Instead of acquiescing to his wishes it's like they went extra hard on him.

I'm just guessing but I'm thinking last week when he showed up on Wednesday and had words with LaFluer that they pretty much told him they were not going to change anything they are doing to get him the ball. That it would come to him organically but getting him the ball was not a concern of theirs and they expected him to do his job. Again just guessing but I think that's what set him off and now I feel like they are doubling down and trying to send him a message. Interesting way to handle such a young and until now seemingly problem free player.

Some post game chatter.

Saleh was saying his low playing time and usage had nothing to do with his trade request, that they just wanted to get Wilson in more. Translation: BS

Moore said he regrets he was a distraction and that his trade request got out, won't answer if he still wants to be traded and said there are things people don't know that goes on beyond closed doors. Translation: sorry it got out but yea I wanted to be traded and you damn well better believe I still do.

My favorite was he was asked if he has a chemistry with Wilson and he said something along the lines of he does not know since he don't get the ball.

Spicy

He was one of the most polished WRs coming out of Mississippi that i've seen in a while. He wasn't the most explosive perhaps but he made all the crucial catches you need to see and was excellent at basic must have routes like 15 yd-IN, Wheel routes, this guy was impressive and I am not trying to start a holy war with the Jets but I understand how he doesn't want to be 2nd Fiddle and since the QB can't even feed one mouth, hard to feed 2 and 3 weekly, it impacts Moore and every guy coming out of college that thinks he's got the mad skills is going to want to use his rookie deal to set up his 2nd contract.

You don't have to like it as a Jets fan. As a Miami fan, I was afraid Waddle might pout when Hill arrived, somehow some way they manage to showcase both of them.
Not condoning the trade request but he wants folks to know he's unhappy and looking for a new start elsewhere.
I understand why New York does not want to trade him but they have a mess on their hands right now, even at 5-3.

he doesn't want to be 2nd Fiddle
I think he'd be complacent with 3rd fiddle and happy with 2nd. Right now he's just trying to get let into the concert hall.
I would help the Jets out and trade them an established WR for Elijah Moore.
And I mean a quality guy, not JAG but something they might like and I might even add a draft pick. This guy is on a rookie deal for 2.5 more years AND he doesn't need a lot of development outside of some maturity issues perhaps, this guy has talent and can be plugged in immediately.

If I were Dallas I would be offering Michael Gallup and throw in a 3rd just to tip the scales and make it easy for the Jets to hit send/accept.
Green Bay seems like they would be in the market but i don't know that Rodgers needs another young WR, he needs a veteran.
Elijah would fit perfect with Mahomes and KC could send back JuJu or anyone the Jets want really. Moore would be off to the races there.

I have Moore in multiple leagues, but as much as I'd love to see him traded, it makes absolutely no sense to do so. He's cheap, good, and they need guys like him to develop their franchise QB. Right now, they're not a passing offense. They're ground and pound with a bend-but-don't-break defense. In terms of paying a guy *not* to play, it costs them almost nothing to make Moore inactive every week if they have to. He has zero leverage.

Not to mention keeping and benching Moore sends a clear statement to the team. "We're doing things our way and we're winning. If you're not going to follow we'll just bench you and go to the next man up."

Garrett was drafted in the early 1st to be the #1. Plus you got CD there. Then you got a QB that is you young. Top of that you got a offense that’s run first. Many things that will not help Elijah.

Jets coach Robert Saleh said he does not expect Elijah Moore to be traded by Tuesday's trade deadline.

Moore, who pointed out on Sunday that he doesn't get the ball, is looking for a one-way ticket of town. However, Saleh and the Jets appear unwilling to deal the second-year receiver despite playing him on just 10 snaps in Week 8's loss to the Patriots. Whether or not the Jets stick to their word remains to be seen, but this isn't the first time the Jets have publicly denied Moore's request for a trade. Moore has 16 catches for 203 yards this season but hasn't been targeted since the team's Week 5 matchup against the Dolphins.

I was hopeful with the low snap count that they had some offers on the table (specifically thought the Chargers may be a team making a move to get more weapons around Herbert), but it appears he is going to be a tough hold this year for dynasty players.

How long until Moore does something the Jets don't like and he ends up suspended by the team for the rest of the season?

Or are we going to start getting a healthy inactive for him each week going forward?

This has the potential to end poorly.
I think it's all up in the air on how this goes but I was listening to a podcast the other day with Mike Lombardi and he said he checked his sources in the league and that Moore was not considered a bad apple but rather a good kid. That this was out of character to point makes you wonder what else is going on.

Listening to Moore's post game interview the other day he seemed very level headed but also said for the most part he'd not change a thing other then this getting "out" so he seems pretty dug in which can be problematic with a franchise that is showing signs it can be super stubborn.

If you are Moore and you want to push some buttons a little I think you got to be a little cognizant of getting Mimsed. Despite teams wanting Mims and the Jets having no role for him they chose to flat bury him for two years, something I've never understood. Joe Douglass is absolutely not a believer in the Mike Tomlin philosophy of wanting volunteers and not hostages. Mims got a paycheck but if he truly likes playing football, and I think he does, he basically had that taken from him as well as a chance to put stuff on tape to get a nice second contract and as far as I know he never even acted out. And while Elijah has flashed more then Mims ever has, if you are him, I think you got to worry a little bit if you try and rock the boat to hard it won't be getting you set free but only put away like Mims. This is not a crazy prediction since we basically just saw this transpire, it's just a question of if/when it will end especially if Moore were to act out.

It’s absurd. They only have themselves to blame. They tanked his value.
Maybe they're more interested in winning games and having depth than giving guys away?

I get this is a fantasy football website - but too many people view actual NFL personnel decisions through that prism.
Oh, no doubt. But how does it help them win games to alienate the guy? It doesn’t seem like they’ve managed a relationship with him particularly well..

He's been active and has been targeted in the last two games. Everyone in here is acting like the Jets are purposely burying these guys or punishing them and it's starting to sound so dumb. I know you're level headed so I'm addressing you in this response and not some of the “hot takes".

Right now the main problem is Zach Wilson playing poorly - it's not like the HC/OC is purposely not throwing to their WRs. Everyone is acting like this is the only season for the Jets. Maybe....just maybe...they actually want to have good WRs for the next QB when/if they have to replace Wilson next offseason.

Based on what exactly. They sat him one game because of HIS actions and brought him back the very next week with open arms. He did not catch a pass - but how many WRs did?
He’s been targeted 9 times in his last 4 games. He was targeted 77 times last year in 11 games. I’m guessing he didn’t expect things to work out like this. Based on his comments, it doesn’t seem like they’ve given him much confidence that he has a clear role.

Why do you feel differently?

To me this is a dumb comment.

I never said they were punishing Mims. He was not active before the last two weeks when injuries and Moore's attitude forced them to use him. He barely played more then Jeff Smith last year. Since they drafted him they signed Corey Davis to a big contract, drafted Wilson in round one, Moore in round two and extended Berrios to a nice deal. They don't use him, have not needed him and have kept him buried despite the player asking for a trade and reports they got offers.

Moore is getting punished. Let's not pretend.

That's off the charts silly. He played 10 snaps, less then Jeff Smith. You got those green goggles on to tight.

There 2 camps at play here and it's hard to listen to the other side.

"Biased" MoP wants Moore to see more touches because he is one of 3 Keepers I have across many leagues, I bought into Moore based on a lot of ole Miss games I watched and i just felt he was ready to roll in the NFL, just needed a QB to get him the ball. Might not elevate to elite but he flashed more in 4 games as a Rookie than I see many flash over a career.

-All that said I completely understand the NYJ fan base because they BLEED GREEN...they don't give a dam about our FF angle any more than I enjoy when folks pile into the Miami thread to tell us what Miami should and should not be doing.

What Doc Oct says about "team relationship", I myself posted in the Jets thread how awesome I thought they handled it all. Like taking the keys out of a 15 yr olds hands and taking the wheel over because of some unsettling roads ahead.

-But then the reality that Moore didn't get traded and didn't get any targets or as many snaps as he was prior is very telling and ominous for investors in Moore that have no rooting interest or don't care about the Jets record the way their fan base would feel.

Jets were 5 dash 2 after 7 games and Moore asked for a Trade, that's not healthy and we all know it. Who is to blame exactly for the current relationship between player and team is debatable but I don't know that you can be 100% right on either side of the argument.

Meno, I thought had some valid points as well.

Why do you feel differently?
Because, which WR is seeing a ton of targets the last few weeks? Are all of the WRs on the team being punished (by some one other than Zach Wilson's inadequacy)?
Wilson threw the ball 41 times last week. Tyler Conklin had 10 targets. G Wilson had 7. Mims had 3. Moore had a single target.
It could absolutely be due to Wilson's inadequacy though.
