WR Jahan Dotson, PHI (2 Viewers)

I own in a ton of dynasty leagues and I'm holding. If McCaffrey does pass him, I'll be very disappointed (I do like McCaffrey as a 3rd/4th round sleeper for sure)
Asked in the value topic, but would you pay a 2026 2nd + 3rd for him? Or is he more of a hold than a buy?

Would you sell him for a 2026 2nd + 3rd?

Definitely would not sell at that price...if I didn't have any major holes with my roster then yes I would buy at that price.

I have never thought much of him, and still don't. Logan Thomas was always hurt, and now they will have two options at TE. And that's where a rookie QB is likely to look most often. Or to McCaffrey in the slot.

I see Dotson as option #5 in the passing game - behind McLaurin, TE, slot, and Ekeler.

Too many mouths to feed. I’m hearing Ertz, McCaffrey, McLaurin are all in for good seasons. Highly unlikely with a rookie QB. Latest I heard is that Daniels and McCaffrey are putting in work together and building a rapport together. And if McCaffrey is indeed the starting slot WR, I could see him having a better season than Dotson at least in year one for Daniels.
I try to think in terms of more than 1 year for dynasty, but to the point I don’t think McCaffery is on the same level of talent as Dotson.

Problem is though if he doesn’t have at least a pretty good season, for any reason, his value is absolutely cooked.

I like Dotson, have him in a few spots and sent a late 2025 2nd for him in like February, which I really regret now because I don't need him on that team.

Terry is going to get peppered, but wouldn’t worry too much about the tight ends. Ertz is just a worse version of ancient version Witten, will be a bail out option mostly and is there more for leadership, and I really like Sinnot but it’s gonna take a second for him to matter.

Dyami Brown is absolute garbage, not sure how else to put it.

McCaffrey I like quite a bit but it’s a long shot he will play in 2 WR sets early in the year.

Ekeler will definitely be involved, but unlikely to see more work than a typical receiving back IMO. Again, not like we’re going to be scheming up for him. He’s there for attitude and leadership just as much as ability. We are trying to set a tone and build a culture from within. Same as with Ertz, just a bit more involved.

So back to Dotson, the opportunity is there early in the season. He was super disgruntled last year, rightfully just sick of all the BS, but has truly done a 180 since all of the changes occurred. He’s excited and ready to roll. Frankly, he’s a guy I hope pops in the first few weeks and then I’ll look to unload. And if he doesn’t start strong, his window is going to start closing because LMC and Sinnot are coming.

Whether he performs or not is a real question and also subject to things like game flow, luck, specific gameplan, etc because again, we’re talking about a kinda small window here. Do you want to spend a 2nd and 3rd (regardless of what year they are) on that? I try not to have a lot of strong takes in general but I’ll stand by this one.

His value is up to about a 6 week gamble. Really I’d say it’s more like 3 or 4 because the winds have changed big time and the front office has no tie to him.

His charts last year were awful, bottom left quadrant in basically everything, but if you look you’ll see every single Wash pass catcher there as well. And IMO it’s because our offense was stale and predictable and multiple defenses at various times throughout the year admitted they knew exactly what was coming.

He’s got some legit juice. His opportunity is quickly fading. I’d wait and watch for some flattering camp reports.

It’s a gamble for sure. I don’t mind my price for the upside. It suits my team’s trajectory if he hits. If he misses I lose 2 picks 2 years out. I can recoup by selling a DE if it’s a miss.

Fingers crossed he hits.

Oh for sure. You already make the deal? He absolutely could hit. I was comping him to Olave last year so I’m a fan. Just laying out the landscape he is facing. He just has a short runway with the team and a much shorter one with fantasy value, so it’s gonna have to happen fast.

Closed the deal this morning, yeah.

I have always been higher than most on this guy buy i am starting to temper that significantly. I agree with the comments about now or never and he may not get the full year to convince them. Might end up being a trade deadline sell to a receiver needy team. Ugh, when I say that out loud i am tempted to hold him.

I like him as a cheap buy low where you can give up an asset you don't care about.

If he doesn't work out, no harm.
Drafted him in the 13th round of a SuperFlex startup last month, and grabbed Q Johnson 2 picks later. Those 2, combined with M Wilson in the 16th, form my “committee of WR4 youngsters” hoping 1 of them turns into something. The price was right imo for a former 1st round rookie WR only 2 years removed from a promising rookie season, and now with a talented rookie QB to develop with. Perfect kind of dart throw at that point imo (all 3 are good dart throws at that point in the draft…again imo)

Of course, my drafts tend to match my personal rankings and preferences, so no surprise that I like my own picks ;)

#Commanders HC Dan Quinn on Jahan Dotson:

“The first thing I think of with him is really good ball skills. Backhand, behind — if it’s in the catching radius, it’s a pretty good shot that he’s gonna come away with it. And he’s also a good route-runner.”

I think Dotson is a pretty good player and if he can be bought low at this point he should be. @Hot Sauce Guy I think you'll be happy with your trade.

16th overall pick a couple of years ago, definitely showed flashes early on his rookie year (w/ Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz at QB). As Dan Quinn stated in @Faust's post above he has elite ball skills. I'm a Penn State fan and Dotson has always shown those ball skills. Being a bit undersized with only adequate speed, he relies on those ball skills to produce. Watch his rookie highlights and you'll see them.

I think last year's Washington offense was a **** show—a ton of passing attempts distributed way too widely. I don't know if that was a Bienemy or Sam Howell thing, but I expect the targets to be much more concentrated this year.

My main cause for concern is Washington's bad OL combined with a hyper-mobile rookie QB. This could lead to a reduction in pass attempts. Could also see Ertz gobbling up an undeserved high number of targets as a safety blanket.

Does not matter if too slow to get open. No burst off the line at all. His top end speed may be NFL, but he's yet to show he can separate when they get physical with him

#Commanders HC Dan Quinn on why Jahan Dotson played so many snaps in the preseason opener:

“I think we’re right in the middle of that competition at receiver, and trying to find out slot, and inside, and outside. So, moving guys into different locations, that’s a big piece of it. And you’ll see more of that this week, as well, with him and some of the other receivers.”

I'm looking for any reason to cut this guy at this point. If he doesn't give me production within the first 4 weeks this season, I'm cutting him.

My guess is that Terry McLaurin gets cut after this year if he doesn't restructure, so that WR room will be wide open, but I can reassess the situation during the off-season. If anybody bothers to pick him up.

No way. Terry is the face of the franchise. They coaches, owners, players, everyone loves him. I'd say there is less than a 5% chance of Terry being cut.

He might need to take a pay cut then. I haven't looked at it in awhile, but he's due to make $25,000,000 in 2025 and his dead cap hit would only be about $11,000,000.

$25,000,000 seems like a lot for a guy who only had 1,002 yards / 4 TD in 17 games. His QB play sucked? Tell that to Davantae Adams, the greats find a way to make it work.

ETA: He's currently the 10th highest paid WR in the league for 2024.

I never said he would. I said he would if he doesn't restructure.

Do you think his production last year was worth $25,000,000? If no, then he'd better produce this year or else GM is going to be calling him into his office. His contract is literally designed to give the Redskins an out in 2025. They built that option in.

You would have laughed at me if I told you Aaron Jones would get cut a year ago. It's a business. It's not like McLaurin has lead this team to the playoffs, right now he's just an overpaid wideout.

If anything, Terry might WANT to be cut in 2025 so he can hit Free Agency a year earlier. He can be a free agent at 30 or at 31.

Could end up being both sides wanting the same thing. Terry probably wants to contend at some point.

Oh I do expect him to restructure. But he’s their WR1 and the face of the franchise.

I’d be much more surprised by McLaurin getting cut than I was Aaron Jones. That one actually didn’t surprise me at all.

Plus with a new QB, they need reliable receivers in WAS.

Last post, then I'll stop derailing the Jahan Dotson thread. Dotson stinks by the way, can't wait to cut him.

This is probably good incentive for Terry to ball out this year. If he has a down year, Redskins will 100% ask him to restructure and they will low-ball him. If he thinks he can get more on the market, he stamps his feet and everyone is "surprised".

If he balls out, the Redskins might sign him to a similar deal to what he signed to begin with. Either way, he's going to get a new deal in the next 1.5 - 2 years so he wants to put good film out for somebody. Worst case scenario, he blows an ACL or something. That puts everything in question.

As for Jahan, he always seemed too small to be anything more than a complementary receiver. Redskins probably reached when they took him, if he was a 2nd or 3rd round pick we'd all have already given up on him, right? But since a bad franchise reached for a decent #2, everything is all muddy. He's made maybe 5-6 plays that made me say wow in his time in the league.

I can't even trade the guy for a ham sandwich. If he wasn't close buddies with Jayden Daniels, I probably wouldn't be rostering him right now.

Ask yourself, would Jahan Dotson get open against any of the Top 10 defensive backs in the league? I know the answer to that and it doesn't take me very long to get to the conclusion that he's JAG.

I know it hurts. I wanted him to be awesome too. Go pick yourself up a new youngster off the waivers. I can count with zero hands how many times I started Jahan and he helped my team win in fantasy.

I’m higher on Dotson than you, clearly.

This all screams coaching schtick to make him compete.

I don’t believe they’re going to trade or cut him, but it’s possible. If the former, I hope it’s to SF.

Nah, Dotson isn't getting cut. He's making less than $4,000,000 this year. They'd rather make him play special teams at that price.

I think he’ll be used primarily out of the slot. It’s the best fit for his skills set.

They tried to use him as an outside receiver and it’s not a great fit.

He has talent. They need to find a way to utilize it.

There’s been some buzz he might be traded - mostly speculation, but IIRC one article was by their beat writer so it had a little cred to it.

I believe in the talent and that he may have chemistry with Daniels, but if after Week 4 he hasn't done anything worthwhile I'll cut him.

He can clog up someone else's roster.

I hate to say it but Ron blew all 4 of his first round pics. Young, Davis, Dotson, and Forbes….im so glad we have a real coach and GM now but man to think of what he passed up for these guys…:wall:

1 month later and I fear I lit my 13th round draft pick on fire.

Man this sucks. I really loved what Dotson showed his rookie year...and now he's gone to our rivals. This SUCKS. But I do trust Peters and the coaches. Something is going on...not sure we'll ever know but its very shocking to me. Maybe Lamb or Aiyuk is in play now??

So what does this do for Dotson's value? Like at best 4th or 5th option in that offense? I have tons of shares of him in dynasty...this is like a kick in the ding dong.

I mean his FF value is cooked. He will be option 4th at best in the offense behind AJ/Smith/Goedert and vying for targets

Eagles slot WRs have been putrid lately, so if he somehow gets 400+ yards I'd be stoked.
