Ginn might be a better returner. Now that the Dolphins are throwing it more frequently to Waddle on passes that travel more than 10 yards, we'll see how good he is. He's gonna be compared to Chase and Pitts, who have better offenses and QBs. From what I've seen, DeVonta Smith looks to be a more complete WR. I'm still not sold on Waddle as a good route runner.

 
Jaylen Waddle caught 9-of-10 targets for 137 yards and one touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 12 win over the Panthers.

It was Waddle's first 100-yard game of the season, and he caught his first touchdown since Week 6 with a nine-yard score in the second quarter. Waddle's yards were keyed by a 57-yard pickup on a crosser where he hit over 21 MPH before being chased down. It was Waddle's longest catch of the year to date. Targeted on over 32.2% of Tua Tagovailoa's throws in this one, Waddle has been the engine of the Miami passing attack all year with DeVante Parker and Will Fuller in the midst of lost, injury-riddled seasons. Waddle has seen at least six targets in all but one game since Week 1 and will be a volume-driven WR2 next week against the Giants.

Honestly, watch him every week and that's not the word or words I would use to describe him. 

The team is desperate with their WR1 and WR2 both out for most of the season, he's a rookie that gets a a lot of targets and hasn't produced a lot. 

Maybe you are just kidding but what part of his game says "stud" to you? He's not overpowering, he doesn't catch a lot of long balls, most of his work is done on short routes, he doesn't strike fear into defenses yet IMO. 

Not trying to throw a wet rag on a nice looking box score but he's a long long way form being an NFL stud at WR

Just saying he's producing in an OK situation and the fantasy community was ####ting on the draft pick. Now he finally got his ypr up to wr1 levels and cant say Carolina isn't the easiest matchup. Cams play certainly didn't help the Panthers though

I know you're a Miami fan who also thinks Tua sucks but this is a weird take. Waddle has looked electric and is producing despite defenses focusing almost solely on him. Yes he gets a lot of short targets but that's how they're moving the ball, using him in the short passing to snag 6 or 7 yards rather than running the ball. It doesn't matter if it strikes fear into defenses, it's working. Today they finally air it out a bit to him and he goes off.

Jaylen Waddle is a stud and most of the reaction I'm seeing is saying the same thing. Not sure why you'd think the guy is kidding.

Well, I just traded for him before this week's games and he won me my matchup in my march to the playoffs, so he's a stud to me.  I prefer Waddle over all the other rookie WRs not named Ja'marr Chase.  I also like Rashod Bateman, Devonta Smith and Elijah Moore, but like Waddle more.

Just seems in today's NFL you can be a smaller guy and be a #1 WR. AB did it for years. 

It is obviously good to be Julio Jones size for Alpha WRs.

I'd only sell Waddle for an equivalent stud in a better situation. Waddle + for Chase is probably attainable right now.

 
Tua is not making many big-time downfield throws, like the ones I've seen Cousins make to Jefferson, Burrows to Chase, and even Hurts to Smith.  I'm not sure if that's on Tua, the oline, Waddle, or the coaches just taking advantage of what the defenses are giving. How many times will Tua complete 80% of his passes? I haven't seen the "complete" route tree from Waddle to know if his route running skills will complement his speed to get open past 10 or 15 yards downfield. He's getting the volume on short passes, so I  think Waddle will retain his consistency for this season but will it continue if Miami has better options than Ford, Wilson, and Hollins in 2022?

Depends on the team makeup. In a vacuum of a redraft leg yes. If he is sitting on Taylor and Mixon as RB's and has no depth at WR then it makes sense.  I'm sitting in first place but lost CMC and Swift last week but have pretty decent WR depth (Kupp, Samuel, Hopkins, Jeudy, Bourne. If someone offered me Eckler for Bourne (Waddle is WR 16, Bourne 17 the last 4 weeks) I'd be an idiot not to. In fact I'd dump Samuel for Eckler even without the injury in my case.

It's a dynasty league.  His RBs are Fournette, Henderson, Pollard, Michel. His WR's are Lamb, Jefferson, Waddle, D Johnson, Elijah Moore.

I just thought it was a very interesting offer rejection.  His team is also tied for 1st in his division.

Waddle's stock has def risen these last few weeks.

No way I reject that trade then. Lamb and Jefferson are better and also young, I think Moore will be as good as Waddle and D. Johnson is as good now and likely won't be much of a drop off even with a young QB next year.  Plus his RB's are blah. I wouldn't mortgage the future to win in a dynasty league but in this case he  wouldn't be.

Come September, Ekler is a 27 year old RB and Waddle a 23 (several months shy of 24) WR.   Very different shelf lives.

Yes, he is deep at WR.  He could also covet a younger back in a trade.

 
Dolphins placed Jaylen Waddle on the reserve/COVID list.

As long as COVID doesn't spread throughout Miami's receivers room, the team will still have DeVante Parker, Albert Wilson, Preston Williams, Isaiah Ford, and Mack Hollins available against the lowly Jets. The Dolphins also protected Kirk Merritt from poaching off the practice squad this week if forced to dig deeper. Waddle's 86 catches are tied with Hunter Renfrow for seventh in the league heading into Week 15.

Hmmm, what does this do to Tua's prospects as a fantasy starter this week?
 

For example, I have Russ, Tua and Taysom.  Was planning to start Tua and still leaning that way, especially as my opponent this week has Gesicki.

Taysom gives you that rushing floor though. Tua and Russ are mobile but don't usually rack up the rush yards. Taysom will probably have 70-100 yards rushing and maybe some rushing TDs. 

 
Would love to buy him in the 2 dynasty leagues I don't have him in.  Don't think I can afford him.

Tried to move Deebo for Waddle+ at our leagues trade deadline a few weeks ago in a league I don't have Waddle but the other owner had no interest. I get it, was hoping Waddle being C+ and Deebo back to healthy and dominating may have been a good time to try and make that move but no dice.

No, I like Samuel and have him, but IMO Waddle has a higher ceiling long term and if you really wanted Waddle you should have asked for a straight up deal.  Still may have not worked, but it may have.

 
Speaking to Dan Le Batard, new Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel said of second-year WR Jaylen Waddle: "I would start him in fantasy."

"The easiest way to get yards is to give it to a really talented player," McDaniel also said in the interview. There are Waddle-Deebo comparisons to be drawn that are probably unfair, but Waddle is obviously the most talented player on the offense and his high-volume role should be pretty secure even without last year's RPO madness. Waddle should factor in to the WR2 conversation in his second season.

5 foot 10, not much of a red zone threat or a guy you can loft to in the corner and let him go get it. 

-Had the offense to himself mostly last year, don't think he will surpass his rookie stats actually, increase in the running game will mean less targets for Waddle but I expect when his number is called he will be efficient.

Probably not, but I think that "touches" may still be around 100 or so barring injury.  It's hard to project right now bc FA and the draft have not happened.  As I said in another thread, Gesecki is the key Piece here.  If Miami tenders him then the Offense isn't going to be exactly SF east bc he cannot block.  If they let him Walk and go after a more "complete" TE then I think the offense likely runs through Waddle and whatever Platoon of RBs MM decides to bring in. Parker and Williams likely aren't going anywhere and I don't see Miami spending a lot of scrilla on a WR when they intend to be a running team (maybe a "deebo" sized WR?)

Yeah.  I can totally see his targets/receptions dialed back, but more big plays.

It's the off season, coaches say a lot of things. Last year, this past one, the one we just ended this past Sunday, Tim Tebow was in camp on an NFL roster, the same Tim Tebow that hadn't taken an NFL snap in almost 10 years.

When your new coach acknowledges you'll get touches under the new regime, that can't be anything but a positive. I mean, it's not like when Urban Meyer came into Jacksonville and wanted more explosiveness out of his running backs and for D.J. Chark to play bigger and put on some weight. McDaniel is actively saying he'll get his.

Tua with a clean pocket is above average, but near the bottom when under pressure.  When he can follow-through he is very accurate, even on passes in the 20-40 air yard range. Per PFF Waddle has a top 5 grade on passes that traveled less than 9 yards downfield, as he gets good separation and Tua has one of the quickest releases to his first read. Waddle will get more long completions if Tua has time and a clean pocket.  The oline was historically bad in pass pro in 2021. It should improve.

From Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson a few weeks ago.
