I really liked Josh Malone and was surprised by the lack of hype he got in the draft. I don't think Malone is anything at all like OBJ though. Also, to be clear, I don't think Ross is going to be a 1400 and 14 guy like OBJ, but just that he is more versatile than Mike Wallace or Teddy Ginn.

John Ross (shoulder) remains sidelined as the Bengals open training camp and is still a "couple weeks away."

Much has been made about Chargers first-rounder Mike Williams (back) not being able to do much, but Ross has done even less than Williams. Williams at least did a bit during the spring. Ross is recovering from shoulder surgery and wasn't able to report to spring work because of Washington's late graduation and the NFL's stupid rule. Likely to open camp on active/NFI, Ross is looking a like a long shot to contribute much early on if he can't practice. Tyler Boyd and Brandon LaFell should soak up the first-team reps in practice and are the heavy favorites to round out the Bengals' three-wide set behind A.J. Green come Week 1.

Bengals first-rounder John Ross (shoulder) said he's not yet 100 percent but has been cleared to practice.

He'll likely be limited to individual drills at the start of camp. It will be Ross' first action with the team since being drafted after he missed the entire offseason program following shoulder surgery and Washington's late graduation. Ross figures to be eased in behind Brandon LaFell. Tyler Boyd will continue to man the slot.

For ppr, John Ross rookie ADP seems 4-5 slots lower than the avg/consensus rankings with the FBG experts.   Looking over the posted Dynasty rookie drafts thread, it looks like he's going in the range of 1.12 to 2.2. Experts have him right around an average of 6 just barely higher than Mike Williams.

 
The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. expects No. 9 overall pick John Ross to have a limited role early in the season.

Dehner expects the team to "create packages" for the speedster early while expanding his role as the season goes along. It is not surprising considering Ross sat out the entire offseason program and the first two-plus weeks of training camp. With Ross limited, Dehner expects sophomore Tyler Boyd to be the second most productive receiver behind A.J. Green.

John Ross caught 0-of-2 targets in Sunday's third preseason game, but managed an eight-yard rush.

Ross certainly looked fast in his preseason debut. One of his missed connections was a mis-thrown deep ball. Ross had the jets to get loose deep had the ball been on point. Limited by injury most of the summer, Ross is expected to begin the year as a role player. He's still more of a Dynasty league prospect than immediate re-draft concern.

Awfully quiet in here. I realize he hasn't played much this preseason, but I think people are sleeping on him.  I just took him at 1.8 in my dynasty rookie draft.  I think he has the upside to be the best wr in this class.

Good post. He is more than a one trick pony that a good many average fans might unknowingly think based on all the hoopla from his record break 40 at the combine. My first thought of him before digging deeper was he be another Mike Wallace. I think he is more advanced than Wallace ever was.

 
Dynasty people should be all over.  Redraft  I think the team is gonna take its time.  A lot of receiving options so I don't think they need to force it especially with less reps in camp.  He is the goods though.

I'm sniffing Antonio brown or Marvin Harrison potential.  He's got the physical tools.  He's versatile.   Dude played cornerback in college before transitioning to wr.  

I'm not saying he is Antonio brown or Marvin Harrison.  Just that he's got the physical tools that give him that potential.  

 
He is the rookie that I own the most shares of in my dynasty leagues.

I think picks 6-9 should be Kamara, Hunt, M Williams, and Ross, in some order (unless it's superflex or TE premium).

I absolutely agree with this.  I think an argument could be made for Howard and Njoku (and perhaps Engram) that high even if it is not a TE premium league, but Ross is consistently being underdrafted, imo.  I have targeted him (dynasty) everywhere I can.

I described him as a wide receiver who happens to be fast, not a fast guy who happens to be a wide receiver. 

I'm on this bandwagon, I think he's a rich man's Tyreek Hill.

Hunt went 1.3 in my deep keeper league, I was shocked.  Got Ross at 2.6 because we play in a superflex league and 6 Qbs (4 rookies and Cutler and Alex Smith) went before that.  I traded up to get him at 2.6, he could end up being a top three rookie in this draft IMO.

Based on what I have read from Bengals folks such as QuizGuy66 above, none of them see Ross making much of an impact this year.

When he gets healthy later on in the season, maybe he makes some big plays and becomes a factor, but I think the Bengals pick of Ross is more about what he can do for their team in the future than this season.

I have actually grabbed Tyler Boyd a few times as a deep flyer as he seems to be forgotten about due to the Bengals drafting Ross. While I think Boyd's ceiling a pretty limited, he actually had a pretty good year for a rookie receiver and might even improve on those numbers this year, which would make him a flex starter in some deeper leagues if he does.

 
It'll be hard for any receiver besides Green to emerge for the Bengals this year because they have Green as the clear #1 and then so many other options in the receiving game (including at TE & RB).

Ross currently seems to be down the depth chart after missing so much time in the offseason, but that doesn't necessarily tell us how things will look by week 5. I think that Ross is the Bengal with the best shot at emerging as a top 30 WR, and if there are injuries then he could be more than that. But that still just leaves him as a late-round flier, probably behind guys like Ginn, Kupp, and Anderson.

He was one of my last picks in redraft standard.  Lotto ticket.  Long shot but here's to hoping.

That's an outstanding way of putting it. We've seen lots of super fast guys who happen to play WR and they don't last long. 

 
John Ross left Thursday's preseason finale against the Colts with a left knee injury.

His night is done, according to ESPN Bengals reporter Katherine Terrell. Ross snagged one catch for six yards and added a 25-yard run on an end-around before exiting. He went to the locker room briefly before returning to the Bengals sideline without a helmet. The first-round rookie has speed for days but may not be a big contributor in year one.

Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official website reports John Ross is expected to miss a "couple weeks" with a sprained knee.

It doesn't sound overly serious, but it's just another injury in a long line of them for this year's No. 9 overall pick. Ross battled several severe knee injuries to each knee at Washington and underwent significant shoulder surgery in the pre-draft process that kept him out of training camp the first couple weeks. Ross is doubtful to make a big impact in the first half of his rookie season.

Yup. This was the risk with drafting this kid.  Monstrous upside and monstrous downside risk with his injury history.  We will see how this shakes out.  

Can't say I'm not disappointed that he's already hurt.  But I'm thankful it's not a season ender.  He could be like an Odell, where he blossoms in the 2nd half of the year.

Yeah huge upside. He was so fast in preseason, I don't see how defenders handle him.

 
John Ross (knee) returned to Bengals practice on Thursday, getting in a limited session.

Ross has been expected to miss this week's opener, but he could be getting on track for Week 2. Ross was expected to miss a "couple weeks" after going down in the Bengals' preseason finale on August 31. Week 2 might still be unrealistic as the Bengals are playing in the Thursday night game. NFL.com has reported Ross could "potentially" return in Week 3.

John Ross (knee) is questionable for Week 1 against the Ravens.

Ross practiced Thursday and Friday, and coach Marvin Lewis refused to rule him out when speaking with the media. At the end of the day, we expect Ross to be inactive. If he does play, he won't be out there for more than a handful of snaps. Brandon LaFell and Tyler Boyd are the Nos. 2/3 WRs.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, John Ross (questionable, knee) is not expected to play Sunday's Week 1 game against the Rams.

Ross will try to work out before the game but it's still a long shot that he plays this week. With Cincinnati hosting the Texans on Thursday night, Ross is also in danger of missing Week 2. The first-round rookie suffered a sprained knee in the Bengals' preseason finale.

John Ross (knee) practiced in full Tuesday.

Ross was inactive Week 1 with a sprained knee, but he seems to have a good shot to suit up Thursday night against the Texans. Even so, he is not a start-worthy fantasy option right now.

I dont like this at all.  The Bengals are panicking imo. Their o line was awful last week, and they're about to face the Texans on short rest, so they want someone to keep the defense honest.  But I'm worried they're rushing him back too early when they could get him 10 more days off. 

That said, Ross may get more rushing than receiving this week if they use him sparingly on jet sweeps. Even as a decoy, just starting him in motion makes it difficult on the d.  But Dalton won't have enough time against that pass rush to really threaten going deep, so there's no reason for the defense to give Ross the cushion they'll have to give once things stabilize a little.  

 
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Bengals first-round WR John Ross (knee) is expected to play Thursday night.

Beat writer Jim Owczarski called Ross a "long shot" on Wednesday, so perhaps he woke up feeling better on Thursday morning. The rookie missed time early in camp with an injury and the season opener with a sprained knee. He will have a limited role even if he is active against the Texans.

He did look AWESOME on that run before fumbling.  They will go back to him.  He's got a bright future.  Just has to shake it off. 

 
I opted for fat porn over that abomination of a game.  Did Ross get any snaps after the fumble?  Knowing Marvin Lewis with rookies he will be benched for the year....should have been fired years ago.

I don't understand the being benched for 1 fumble punishment that some coaches seem to take.  You drafted him with the 9th overall pick for Christ sake.  You must think he is pretty good and you are not winning anything this year.  Let the kid play instead of targeting Brandon LaFell and Nelson 13 times. 

Good thing Reid didn't do that with Hunt last week...............

 
Marv needs to go. His handling of the RB situation and then benching Ross after that fumble is ridiculous. Grab that #### between your legs and play your best players ffs.

I too was going to mention how Reid properly handled Hunt's first fumble.
