WR Marquez Callaway, NO (1 Viewer)

Lil'Jordan Humphrey has shown flashes this preseason.  He is a big target with some promise.
Yeah I thought he looked pretty good. I'm happy with Callaway as early as the 8th/9th depending on the board and my build. I don't see Tre'Quan as a threat but more of a compliment if anything. They should throw a lot with Winston.

Calloway has been tearing up camp and then did the same in limited PS opps. When did Three Quans ever do that?

Dude passes the eye test BIG time and the talk I've read is that he's established himself as the alpha in the vacuum left behind by Mike Thomas. The latter is the only one who poses a threat to Calloway, if MC proves to be as stout come September as he's been Jun-Aug. Planets are aligned right now.

After assembling what I wanted in the front line of my WRs, got Callaway around the 8th/9th round and it seemed like I upset a couple owners when i snared him as a potential flex or WR4 option. If I can get 6-8 good weeks out of him and he can establish himself as an actual threat then he can still see targets even when guys work their way back on the Saints.

Be careful about anything that happens in preseason, especially this one, which is still hampered by C-19, and is the guinea pig preseason for the 'new normal' 3-week preseason.

The analysts early this evening on Sirius/XM commented that the Saints are just being precautionary with Tre'Quan Smith, and he's ready to go for Week 1, and Calloway right now is playing Smith's role in the offense, and everything is going to change once live bullets start flying. They cautioned that people are buying into the hype, and that Calloway shooting up draft boards right now is a reactionary play, and the wiser thing to do is to take Smith in the last quarter of Drafts (Rounds 16-20) and mine the upside that's going to manifest itself when the games count. Just something to think about.

I believe the show that was on this afternoon was Pro Football Focus hosted by Jeff Ratcliffe. Various guests rotate through the show. I happened to be in the car driving around with the channel on sometime between 4-5pm eastern. He and his guests have some pretty solid industry bona fides. I'm not sure who he was speaking with at the time, but it's a regular guest who's highly regarded in the industry. They were comparing various pairings of players from the same Teams, and TSmith vs Callaway was part of the discussion. This was one of the pairings they completely agreed on, in regards to preferring Smith over Callaway. I'm just relating what I heard.

FTR, I just reported what I'd heard, from what's considered to be a reputable analyst and reputable industry guest. Didn't say I agreed or disagreed, just wanted to bring that info into the discussion.

I have no Callaways, and I traded out of T'qSmith (dynasty salary dump), so no dog in the fight. The only piece of the Saints I'm interested in drafting, in most of the Leagues I'm in, is Kamara. IMHO, everything else in that offense is 'throw a bunch of **** at the wall and see what sticks."

ETA: If I can get him reeeaaallly late in my Leagues that don't penalize for INT's, I will draft Winston. If I don't risk much draft capital, little issues with him being demoted, and no INT penalty is a no-brainer, IMHO.

Saints’ WR Michael Thomas, who underwent off-season foot surgery, is expected to land on PUP, which will sideline him the first six weeks, per sources. Being that the Saints have an early bye, placing Thomas on PUP would sideline him for at least the first five games.
The window is wide open for Callaway

I can't directly point to what this reminds me of, but in redraft if this guy starts going off quickly, I would immediately start trying to find a trade partner for some one drafted 3-4-5 rounds ahead of him, that ultimately is what you want if you can pull it off. This was not a household name for a lot of owners.

How much FAAB would you spend on him?  He is available in all of my dynasty leagues and a couple leagues I drafted early.

I have bids in right now about 50% of budget.  I never spend all my FAAB anyway.

He looks to be as good of a risk as any that might come up mid-season, IMO.

I’m wondering the same thing.  I heard from someone that in one league he went for 25%, and 32% in another, but I’m thinking it might need to be higher to get him in mine.

I'm going 100% in a couple of leagues, but the waiver wire is pretty bare every year so I've definitely trended toward doing this for someone I like a lot better than anything else on the wire.

Last year, I did this on James Robinson and got him in all 3 of those leagues that are setup like that. The year before that, someone had cut Corey Davis and I did the same there. Maybe this year it'll fail me, but we'll see.

Callaway is a perfect example of where I diverge from the DD tool.  When I run mock drafts they show him no respect in the team rating.  Yet I see WR 2 upside at WR5 draft point.  Sure, I can take one of the proven WR5s at that point but I churn through my last few spots so much I know unless one breaks out he isn't long for my roster anyway.

Callaway is on my radar.  Could be a flash in the pan.  Could emerge as a solid WR2.  Worth a flyer in the 13th round or so.

the Adp rarely adjusts quick enough on this type of emerging player.

We worried about Jaire Alexander at all? Not sure if Alexander follows numbers 1s or if Callaway will be treated as the 1/worth following by the defense.

In two drafts now I've taken Callaway and Michael Thomas in consecutive rounds and really liked it walking away from the draft.

Yes. I'm super bullish on Callaway for the 1st 2 months, but I'll leave him on the bench week 1 if I have other options.

I'm starting him in a couple leagues, but benching for Aiyuk in one league and possibly Gallup or D. Smith in another.

Super bullish on Callaway, but I will likely take a wait-and-see approach this week with Alexander opposing, and other viable starting WR options on my team. The shark move may instead by to start Juwan Johnson (at WR or TE in Yahoo).

Callaway went in the 7th of a 12 team I did last night.  I got Thomas in the 10th and was able to IR him.

I am pretty bullish on Callaway, which means he'll get 2-24 in Week 1 while Kamara gets 9 catches and two tight ends we've never heard of get 6-8 targets each.

I'm taking the wait and see approach as well but I will not be surprised if he has a big game this week.

Right now I'm starting Callaway over the likes of OBJ, Hollywood Brown, and Sterling Shepard.  If I make a swap, it will be for Beckham.

Like him - but if he's going anywhere near the 7th round in a 12 teamer he won't be on my team.  Good value in the 10th or so

Lurking on my taxi squad with fellow breakout candidate Pittman until they show something worthy of dislodging my McLaurin, Thielen, Cooks lineup.

You starting lineup will be McLaurin, Thielen and CALLAWAY in fairly short order.

(Though I'm higher than most on Cooks, so I get it)

I am optimistic about Callaways opportunity this season.

That said Brandin Cooks has a career average of 7.1 targets per game at 9.3 yards per target with multiple different teams and QBs. No way I would consider Callaway and his 21 reception career so far ahead of Cooks who already has 5 1000+ yard seasons so far in his career.

Every few years I spend the full monty on a player with our first waiver run of the season. I did it this year with Calloway and got him in 6 of my 10 dynasty leagues. I think he's legit, and I still question how long MT is going to be a Saint. I also believe Winston is very capable of giving him #1 or at worst #2 WR numbers.

That being said, I don't have him in any of my lineups this weekend. Fortunately most of my teams have 3 or 4 stronger (more proven) WRs. Hoping he goes off this weekend on my bench :)

I tried this too and didn't get him anywhere, lol. I did it last year with James Robinson and I think my leaguemates caught on to the plan. Tie breaker goes to worst record previous year.

originally posted this in that other thread oops

only got him in 1 redraft

he just went for 77/68/45/45 % of budgets in my 4 ffpc dynasty waivers

Tre'Quan Smith now on IR. Gonna be the Kamara and Callaway show.

Jaire Alexander ain't no joke, and is a tough draw for Calloway in his first start as a WR1. I'm flexing him in, though, in a couple of leagues. Winston is gonna get his yardage....with Smith and Thomas on the shelf, somebody is gonna eat.

5/72/1

Exactly, and I thought this was likely going to be the case even when T. Smith was going to play.  This just ices it.  I figured Smith would get work, but Callaway would pull away and be the WR1 clearly by midseason, or at least until MT returns.

Go out and get TONY JONES JR. and stash him on your bench as well.  I don't like seeing any RB get hurt, but if Kamara happens to go down, oh baby...... you likely have the TOP RB LOTTERY TICKET in all of fantasy for the year.

Getting Fulgham vibes from this guy. I need to sell him with all this hype.

Fulgham at least blew up in actual NFL games. Callaway is already worth more than Fulgham and he's only done it in preseason.

That said if we're talking ww bucks why not take a shot? Sometimes you get Victor Cruz.
