It's hear a little early this week guys. We are at the halfway point and have a lot of things to discuss. Lets get to some WR analysis.
Indy @ Carolina:
Well Panther fans, here come the 7-0 Colts whether you want them or not. Too bad you guys are not playing them on the road where you guys may have a chance. Please god, put Vinny Testeverde at QB to at least give the Panthers a shot a winning this game!
Harrison/Wayne/Clark: You can expect a big day from all three. The Panther secondary will be no match for this threesome. Not sure how healthy Marvin is, but you have to start him. Reggie Wayne put on a show Monday night against the Jags catching nine passes for 131 yards. The Panthers give up a ton of points to opposing TEs, so Clark is a must start.
Smith/Colbert: The big question here is who starts at QB. If Vinnie starts, Smith could have a nice day stat wise. Vinnie also tossed nine balls towards Kerry Colbert in week 6, but he only caught three of them for 29 yards. Stevo seems to be the only reliable fantasy option on the entire Panther team at this point.
Colts 31 Panthers 17
Oakland @ Tennessee:
Curry/Miller: WR Ronald Curry continues to be the most consistent player on the Raider roster. Last week against the Chiefs, Curry caught four passes for 47 yards and caught the only Raider TD. He’s the best option this week against a tough Tennessee pass defense. However, TE Zach Miller is coming along within the offense as well. Miller has seen 14 targets the last two games and has caught seven of them for 65 yards and a TD. He would be a nice option this week if your TE is on a bye.
Williams/Scaife: Hopefully Vince Young returns this week which will upgrade all of the Titan receivers. Last weekend, the main man was Roydell Williams who caught five passes for 124 yards. TE Bo Scaife also looked very good within the offense catching six passes for 49 yards. Williams could make a nice sleeper pick if Vince plays, so check the status of Young before inserting him into your lineup.
Titans 20 Raiders 14
Cleveland @ STL:
Wow, you know things are wacky when the Brownies are 3-point favorites on the road against the Rams. Browns QB Derek Anderson is playing out of his mind right now, so he should have HUGE game against the Ramless Rams.
Edwards/Winslow: Expect big games from both of these STUDS. Fresh off a three TD performance, Braylon could duplicate that this weekend against a bad Rams secondary. If Braylon is not open, watch Anderson check down to Winslow who will be a mismatch for whoever is covering him. This is definitely a match up to exploit.
Holt/Bruce: The Brownies as we’ve seen can be passes on. With RB Steven Jackson due back this week, you have to believe they just want to ease him back into the offense and not rush things. I expect Bulgar to air it out to Holt and Bruce, so expect them to be busy early and often. Holt and Bruce are nice options this week, and there is a chance “Big Game” may have his first 100 yard game.
Browns 24 Rams 20
Minnesota @ Philadelphia:
Williamson/Wade: So, let me get this straight, only two receivers were thrown to last weekend against the Cowboys? Williamson had one catch for 25 yards, and Wade had one catch for 16 yards. Yikes, stay very far away from Viking receivers and look for them to pound the ball with Chester Taylor and AD.
Curtis/Brown/Westbrook: A disappointing year overall for this offense so far. This group of receivers has dropped several balls that McNabb has put on the money. They get a Viking secondary this week that they should be able to exploit. Kevin Curtis seems to be the favorite receiver for McNabb so he should be able to produce some nice stats in this game. Reggie Brown has also been very active lately as last week he was targeted six times. RB Brian Westbrook continues to be a PPR machine, so you can expect the usual 5-7 for Westy and a possible receiving TD this week as well.
Philadelphia 24 Minnesota 20
NYG @ Miami:`
Burress/Shockey/Toomer: The Niner’s did a good job last week on Plax Burress holding him out of the end zone and breaking the streak of six games with at least one TD. Don’t sweat it though Burress owners, you have the Fins this weekend and they have nobody that can match up with his size. Expect a bounce back game from Plax. Amani Toomer scored for the second week in a row last week and is a great WR3/Flex play this week. TE Jeremy Shockey caught five passes for 39 yards and a TD last week and just like the rest of the Giant offense, should have a find day this weekend.
Sleeper Alert: Amani Toomer – 5 catches, 60 yards, TD
Booker/Ginn Jr./Hagan: Receiver Derek Hagan led all Miami receivers last week in yards with 56 off of four catches. Ginn Jr. and Booker also saw a lot of targets. The problem was though most of Cleo’s passes were off target. I don’t expect the Fins to get blown out like they did last week again, but this should be an easy win for the G-men. Cleo will need to throw the ball a lot to win the game, with the way the Giant’s defense has been playing, the Fins offense will struggle. Keep all three of these guys on your bench.
Giants 31 Miami 17
Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati:
Here’s an odd fact about this series. The road team has won the last four meetings between these teams. For all of you gambling buffs, the chalk is on the Steelers this week.
Holmes/Ward/Miller: Receiver Santonio Holmes is enjoying a break out season this year and should have a lot of success this week against the Bengals pitiful excuse for a secondary. Last week against the NFL’s best pass defense, Holmes caught six passes for 54 yards and a TD. He’s a must start this week against the Bengals. Hines Ward looked great in his first game back from his injury catching seven passes for 78 yards. Ward also led the team with 13 targets. Meanwhile, TE Heath Miller had his best game of the year catching all five passes thrown his way for 50 yards and two TDs. All three of these guys are must starts and should be very busy this weekend.
Housh/Chad Johnson: What a weird game last weekend offensively for the Bengals. They score 38 points, but Palmer only throws for one TD? Since when did the Bengals start pounding the ball to a back up running back for three TDs? I don’t see the Bengals having that same success this week against the Steel Curtain. They will have to air it out to Housh and Johnson. After watching Broncos QB Jay Cutler shred the Steeler secondary last week for three TDs, Palmer should have no problems finding people open this weekend. Housh should get back to business with 100+ yards and a TD.
Steelers 28 Bengals 21
Detroit @ Chicago:
Williams/Calvin Johnson/McDonald: Wow, what has happened to Roy Williams the last couple of weeks? He’s not sniffed the end zone in three weeks? Have no fear RY owners, Roy has actually played very well against the Bears in the pass. Not sure about Roy going over 100 yards this week, but 70+ yards and a TD should be expected. Did anybody see that sick end and around run by Calvin Johnson? This guy has some serious skills folks and it’s only a matter of time before he’s a star in the NFL. Play him this week against
Moose/Berrian/Olsen/Clark: All four of these guys are serviceable this weekend. The one guy I will profess my love for in this group is the TE Greg Olsen. He was targeted a team high eight times against the Eagles and caught four of them for 48 yards. Griese loves throwing to this kid. Moose and Berrian have also been stepping it up lately and are excellent plays this weekend. Berrian has a shot at going over 100 yards and finding the end zone. Desmond Clark should be involved in the passing game as well.
Sleeper Alert: Greg Olsen & Desmond Clark – Each one may go for 5 catches 50 yards, and a TD.
Chicago 27 Detroit 20
Jacksonville @ Tampa Bay:
The Jags will be coming into this game very banged up and starting a third string QB. That will not bode well for an improving Tampa Bay defense.
Northcutt/Wilford: With 3rd string QB Quinn Gray as the starter, do not, I repeat, do not start a Jag receiver. Gray looked horrible when inserted in the game completing 9 of 24 for 56 yards. Enough said.
Hilliard/Galloway: Hilliard and Galloway continue to flourish with QB Jeff Garcia at the helm. Last week against the Lions, Hilliard had his best game of the year with 9 catches, 92 yards, and a TD. Hilliard is on an amazing pace for 80+ receptions and 1000+ yards by the end of the year. Galloway was somewhat quiet last week only catching five balls for 46 yards. I don’t see the Buc’s running the football against the tough Jaguar front, so Garcia may have no choice but to put the ball in the air. Hilliard and Galloway are both excellent starts this week against the Jags, especially playing in front of the home crowd.
Sleeper Alert: Ike Hilliard – 5 catches, 70+ yards, TD. (He cashed in for me last weekend as a Sleeper, and I’m not stopping now.
Tampa Bay 21 Jacksonville 17
Houston @ S.D:
Davis/Walter/Daniels: The duo of Kevin Walter and Andre Davis combined for 10 catches, 185 yards and two TDs last week against a tough Titan pass defense. Meanwhile, TE Owen Daniels was the odd man out only catching two passes for 20 yards. It’s hard to tell which Bolts pass defense will show up. Will it be the one currently ranked 25th in the league? Davis, Walter, and Daniels all need to be busy this weekend if the Texans have a shot. I like all three of these players in what could be a shootout.
Sleeper Alert: Kevin Walter – 5 catches, 70 yards, TD
VJax/Gates/LT/Chambers: This group will be going up against the league’s 20th ranked pass defense. There is nobody on the planet right now that can match up with TE Antonio Gates. He’s have a career year and should be able to go over 100 yards and get into the end zone at least once. With Chris Chambers now in town, the Bolts get yet another deep threat. I don’t see any fantasy value yet in Chambers. Let’s see how he looks within the offense Sunday to see how the Bolts use him. It’s hard to also gauge how much this will affect VJax. He will now be fighting Gates, LT, and Chambers for targets. I actually like the match up this week for Vinnie. He could play out as a nice WR3/Flex option. LT will do his usual thing. He could be in for another Raider size performance.
Bolts 31 Houston 20
Buffalo @ NYJ:
Evans/Parrish: Wow, look what happens when you throw the ball to your best receiver Lee Evans? He catches five of his eight targets for 98 yards and you win the game. I actually see some value here this weekend guys. The Jets have no idea how to defend the pass, and Trent Edwards should have a decent day ahead of him. I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but remember those days where Evans would blow up for something like 8 catches, 200+ yards, and at least one TD? Could it happen this weekend? It could be one of those very few times you need to get him into your lineup. It’s just a gut feeling I have. (or its the chili dog with extra mustard I just ate?) Oh and then there’s this guy Parrish. If you have this guy on your team period, you need to be kicked out of your league.
Coles/Cotchery: Some way some how, Chad Pennington and his noodle of an arm have earned him another start this week against the Bills. Last week’s stats were a little inflated due to the hail mary pass to Cotchery. Now that I’m through bashing Pennington, this is an excellent match up for the Jets offense. The Bills have no secondary what so ever, so Pennington should be good for at least get 200+ yards and two TDs, which would be very serviceable if your main QB is on a bye week. Coles and Cotchery are must starts until further notice. I see Cotchery taking advantage of the Bills secondary the most and going over 100 yards receiving. Coles should have no problems finding the end zone either.
Jets 24 Bills 21
N.O. @ S.F:
Yea, I know the Saints have won a couple games now, but this still does not look like the same team this year. San Fran is playing at home and is desperate for a win. Could this be the Upset Special of the Week?
Colston/Bush/Johnson: The Falcons did a nice job covering receivers down the field last weekend. The 9er’s has a respectable secondary and I foresee some problems for the Saint receivers this weekend. Eric Johnson could be a sleeper pick this week as I see Brees checking down to him and Bush a lot this weekend. Colston has gotten to the point where you can’t rely on him. For the season, Coltson has 26 catches for 265 yards and two TDs. Very average if you ask me. Since the Saints are playing on grass on not on turf, I would downgrade Colston and all the other receivers. Bush and Johnson are the better options this week IMO.
Sleeper Alert: Eric Johnson – 4 catches, 40 yards, TD
DJax/Battle/Davis: Don’t look now but the 49er’s are getting healthy. QB Alex Smith is supposed to be back this weekend, and TE Vernon Davis returned last weekend against the Giants. Now I know the receivers in San Fran have disappointed so far this year, but this is a Match Up to Exploit. The Saints are 27th against the pass, so look for the 9er’s to take advantage of this weakness. Vernon Davis is the one guy due for a break out game IMO.
Sleeper Alert: - Vernon Davis – 5 catches, 70 yards, TD
49er’s 24 Saints 17
Washington @ New England:
This just in! This just in! Tom Brady is really good! Meh, whatever. Was it really necessary for the Pats to throw up 35 points against a bad Miami defense in the first half? That’s classless if you ask me. The only way the Skins have a chance in this game is if they can put pressure on Brady. On with the analysis.
Moss/Randal El/Cooley: Let’s hope this trio can produce something, because if not, this game will be over quickly. Moss is the deep threat that they can use to get the offense moving, but we have yet to see this from him in any game this year. Randal El and Cooley are getting the most looks on offense. For the Skins to win this game they will need to throw the ball to keep up with the Pats. Randal El is a guy I think has some nice value against the Pats. He’s their most consistent receiver and the Skins may need to use Cooley to help block the Pats front line and blitzing packages.
Sleeper Alert: Randal El – 5 catches, 70 yards, TD
Moss/Welker/Stallworth/Brady: Are people actually having thoughts of benching these guys because of Washington’s pass defense? Brady has too many weapons, and although I don’t think Brady will throw for five TDs, he should still have a find day passing the ball. Brady will find some kind of weakness on the Redskin secondary and exploit it. Not quite sure which receiver will benefit from the match ups, but I’ll take a stab at Welker. I think the Skins will throw a ton of attention on Randy, and that will leave Welker with single coverage. Welker could be in for a big day as long as Brady can find him. Where can you find an almost guaranteed TD this week? Look at Pats TE Kyle Brady. He may only get a catch or two for a couple of yards, but a TD is almost a given with the other Brady at QB.
Sleeper Alert – Kyle Brady, 3 catches 15 yards, TD
Pats 27 Skins 10
Green Bay @ Denver:
After a week off, Brett Favre and company return and will travel to the Mile High City to take on a Bronco team that surprised everyone last weekend with their victory over the Steelers.
Driver/Jennings/Jones: Who says the Broncos can’t be passed on? If Big Ben can carve up the Denver secondary for 3 scores, why can’t one of the all-time greats in Favre do it on Monday Night Football? The Packers have no run game to speak of, so the only other option is to pass the ball. This has the potential to be a shootout, and Greg Jennings could be a sneaky play this week. With Champ Bailey covering Driver, Brett may just look to throw Jennings and Jones the ball. All three have the possibility of finding pay dirt.
Sleeper Alert: Greg Jennings 5 catches, 80 yards, TD
Marshall/Stokely: These two looked real good last weekend against the Steelers combining for 11 catches, 141 yards and a TD. I like the Broncos at home throwing the ball. I don’t see them running the ball with Henry as the Packers have the 11th best run defense in the league. Stokely and Marshall should be started in all leagues against the Pack.
Packers 24 Broncos 21
Top 5 WR Match Ups to Exploit:
1. Amani Toomer WR NYG
2. Greg Olsen TE Chi.
3. Vernon Davis TE S.F.
4. Randal El WR Wash.
5. Greg Jennings WR G.B.
