I think, and
@Stompin' Tom Connorscan back me up or contradict me, but Raiders' starting safety Abram is out for the year because of an injury suffered this past Monday night. I paged Stompin' Tom because I thought their other safety was out or had left as an FA or something. Any Raider homer news would be welcome on that front.
Apologies, GB, my pager has been dead since 1994. Please use my telefax, that's usually pretty reliable.
@elshagon has most of that take right, but Conley looks like he is returning this weekend.
Joyner is very solid as a box safety, Joseph is more miss than or hit as a FS, but can step up and hit hard. Our backup SS/FS (Harris/Riley/Leavitt) aren't anything dependable. We signed Justin Burris who was with the Jets practice squad and briefly with the Browns PS to shore up Abram's spot - strange signing as I don't see what he brings to the table skill-wise.
Conley might be our best CB, and that's not saying much -- he's oft injured, and started his career as a liability in both coverage and tackling, but improved greatly in the last half of the year and looked like a shut down corner at times against some of the better WRs (specifically Hill and AB last year). But he can be solid.
The other CBs, Worley, Mullen, and Nixon are meh.
Our front seven is improved, but have yet to show they can dominate. Ferrell has been solid, and Mayowa, our second string end came out of nowhere with a great game against the Broncos, but I don't think we've proven we can be a pass-rush force.
I do think Whitehead and Burfict looked sound against the run, but so I expect KC to target the Raiders in the air.
With all of this -- still not sure who the beneficiary is. I suspect Hardman will have a good game, and the team seems to like him and the guy looks talented. That said not sure how the targets will play out and benefit him or Robinson.
If I had Hardman, might flex him out as a good bet as a sleeper.
