WR Rashod Bateman, BAL (1 Viewer)

Jamison Hensley
Ravens coach John Harbaugh on the return of WR Rashod Bateman (foot): “I think we'll see as we go, but it's very promising right now. He looked good to me, and I'm excited to see him out there. Obviously, it's big for us.”

Bateman has been limited to individual drills so far.

This is the Bateman thread, good bud. Not Zay's...

I like the kids talent as well but this seems incredibly unlikely at this point since he’s missing the installation of a brand new offense while Flowers and OBJ seize the two starting slots.

At this point, I’ll take him getting on the field at some point and showing his talent and building some hope for 2024. As I said, if that doesn’t happen we’re getting close to roster clogger status. The further we get from his draft class the less his pedigree matters to the team. They already overpaid OBJ and used another first rounder at the position so the writing is on the wall.

I’ll predict Flowers leading the WRs in receptions with OBJ close behind and Bateman in a distant third.

Except he’s not. He came off the PUP and is fully practicing.

That would be him not missing the installation of a brand new scheme, no?

He missed OTAs and a decent chunk of training camp. I don't think what Doc Oc said is erroneous in the least.
I believe Doc’s statement has some truth to it.

I also believe we’re a full month before the season & as such, barring any set-backs, Bateman should be in there learning that offensive scheme.

It’s not the statement i took issue with but the conclusion.

Dude has essentially 17 games played, 5.5+ targets per game. I see no reason to write him off or sell low. In my 12-team, 20-man, ppr, RB crazy league -- where WR are valued akin to pond scum unless they are stars -- he's easily a keeper and I wouldn't trade him for a pick unless it was top 10 or maybe 12. But in this league that is saying a lot for a WR.

The thing is it’s implemented in OTAs and early in camp. Now they’re executing it in scrimmages and preseason games.

You can downplay it all you want but it was a factual statement that didn’t deserve your response to it - just because you’ve been pumping him up.

I’m not claiming all hope is lost but if you don’t think this puts him behind Flowers and Beckham in this offense that’s your prerogative but Im not sure that’s intuitive.

No one is saying to drop him yet. Maybe I should be less subtle.

Not downplaying it at all.

And I’m also not “pumping him up” - I literally said I was just manifesting above.

This is what PFF’s Trevor Sikkema had to say recently on Good Morning Football on NFL Network:

”I think Rashod Bateman’s about to go crazy this year. The last time he was fully healthy was at junior season at Minnesota, and he graded out in our system as an elite receiver. The following year was the COVID-shortened season. His first year in the NFL, he had the groin injury he was dealing with, and last year he had the foot injury. We saw him get activated from the PUP list, and even just the small little training clips that we’ve already seen, he looks confident, he looks explosive, and he looks as healthy as he’s been over the last three years. And so I really think that a fully healthy season from Rashod Bateman, we are once again going to get elite level production from this dude. I can’t wait for it. He’s so talented. I need him to stay healthy because he’s going to put on a show in Baltimore.”

@Hot Sauce Guy undrafted in my 12 team, 16 round PPR. I think that's an oversight and he is probably my #1 waiver wire watch.

Flowers went 11.01 to me (WR4). I would have taken Bateman if I didn't have Flowers already.

Beckham went 12.5 (WR5) to a team that smokes a lot of weed. No joke, this guy is one of Taco's many love children. Seriously, I personally failed to graduate from San Diego State (weed) and even I think this dude smokes a lot of weed.

Grabbed him off waivers last week in a 12 team half ppr.
Took him with a last pick in a 10 teamer (hppr again) today.

Feels like this guy is gonna be a decent WR3 who could push WR2 territory if that offense lives up to the hype.

I would spend a high priority to get him. Undrafted is a mistake.

Agreed. I'm just not sure if I should drop Bijan or AJ Brown for him.

Might as well drop both, clear up a spot for another add.

Agreed, for more WR depth when he goes on IR again
This is why he's a potential bargain.

The team rushed him back too early, the guy who did so from the Ravens was FIRED, and people think Rashod Bateman cannot stay healthy.

Rashod got done so dirty. He called out the Ravens on social media, a bunch of former players backed him up, players whose careers were ruined, the Ravens pretty much backtracked, DeCosta never said a word, they fired the Strength and Coditioning coach, but Rashod is injury prone.

People calling Bateman injury prone out here in these streets drafting Toney in the same round.

Oooookay.

Who would you rather roster if you had to choose one in a ten man?

Right now? Bateman. He’s been at practice for ~3 weeks with no setbacks, described himself as “99%”, and LJax has called him their WR1 a few times.

I have no idea what to expect from Toney.

But tbh in a 10 team they’re both marginal. If it’s a 3-WR+flex lineup, maybe sure.

As far as using a 1st round pick on Flowers they did need to replace Brown.

You may be right here, Im just saying there is another reason why they might use that pick on Flowers than just Bateman.

Plus the new OC’s stated intention to use more 3 WR sets and fewer 2 TE sets.

Yup.

As a Lamar Jackson owner the more the merrier.

I look forward to seeing what he can do now that he isnt tethered by Greg Roman.

I was so tired of the 1950s style balanced offense. Lamar has a cannon - we saw glimpses with Hollywood. Open it up. Free LJax!

Going back to that Aug. 18th article & the after practice comments, thereabouts, I was impressed listening to him. Got a sense that if he does fail it won't be due to a lack of ability or commitment, team-oriented. Have three scouting publications (Lindy's, DTP & Athlon) from 2021 & have read his draft tracker profile at nfl.com. Measurables are good but nothing special. But what really stands out & is consistent across all four is his route-running , an ability to track & elevate, excellent ball skills.

Within that context, several noted that he's not as developed physically as he could be. You can then wonder whether his regimen & the injuries were related? I liked this part, Harbaugh is asked about Dobbins:

Is RB J.K. Dobbins catching up with the offense and getting on track? (Ryan Mink) "Absolutely. J.K. [Dobbins] and Rashod [Bateman] both. They're both out there in team drills moving around and looking good. So, that was great to see. Our training staff and our strength staff have done a great job, and those guys, themselves, have done a great job. Rashod has worked really hard to get himself to where he is right now. He looked good today."

Of note perhaps, shortly into his response about Dobbins & unsolicited, Bateman is who Harbaugh is talking about. Mentioned earlier in the thread is that Bateman got off to a slow start. But apart from that it appears as though he's had himself a good offseason. Loves the team, loves Monken's new system, doesn't care what his role is, that's for the coaches to decide. Somewhere in there, the WR coach I think, was quoted as saying that if they were to get Bateman going it would be "big for us".

Sarah Ellison
John Harbaugh on WR Rashod Bateman: “He looks full speed and ready to go. It means so much to him. He was very frustrated with the fact that [his foot injury] kept lingering and lingering and he wasn’t able to put it behind him. But I think he kinda put his foot down …”*Paused and grinned for the media to appreciate the pun* “You like that one, right?“And really he just made a determination that he was going to beat it, and he did a great job. I’m proud of him. I’m excited about him too. I want to see how he does.”
