One could argue: Chase, Waddle, Smith, Moore, Moore, Bateman, Toney, plus a few sleepers like Nico and Eskridge. 

Speaking of talent, Bateman was outproduced by lowly 5th rounder Tyler Johnson in 2019.

Yeah that is pretty much the long and short of it. While I think the Ravens easily could increase their passing volume I still want to see that first before I start penciling in any of these guys for my fantasy teams.

I do agree with tangfoots comment about the relative weakness of the 2021 draft class making Bateman hard to ignore when one is looking at rookie players only. He is still one of the best ones despite less than ideal landing.

As someone else pointed out--there was a lot of this in regards to AJ Brown a few years ago.  "Oh the Titans run it a ton.  Oh their QB isn't the best passer."  Womp womp.

This is a good point, however I do not put Bateman is the same ballpark as Brown as a prospect.

But as others have pointed out to that, Baltimore seems locked in with Jackson as their quarterback of the future and Roman and Harbaugh as OC and HC. This is unlike Tennessee, who had Mariota and their OC very much on the edge of unemployment. LaFleur, the former OC, left for GB where he kept running the ball and Mariota lost his job to Tannehill.

So it's not really all that analogous.

I think my syntax was off because that's really all I was trying to say. My bad. AJ Brown's situation is different than Bateman's because of the stability of the pieces in place. I do not expect that much of a difference in Baltimore's passing game volume or efficiency.

In addition to that, Brown has been ludicrously efficient with his fantasy points per touch and target. It's way beyond the average and is bound for regression at some point.

I think the efficiency may tick up a little, as the OL should be more stable.

I agree on the volume. Maybe they throw it a couple more times per game just because I think they'll run more plays overall. Why would they throw the ball more? They average over 5 ypr. And that's not Jackson skewing the numbers - both Dobbins and Edwards went for over 5 per rush last year.

Best I can figure at this point, there will be about 180 catches available between Andrews/Brown/Bateman. Andrews is a lock for 60, given good health. So, 120 between the 2 WRs. A 60/60 split wouldn't surprise me, though if I were betting, I'd lean towards Brown getting more this season.

My caveat would be that no one has seen Bateman play in a game as a pro - maybe he already peaked in college and is destined to be a WR 3/4, or maybe he'll come out of the gate blazing, or maybe it'll take him a while to get going.

 
The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec expects rookie WR Rashod Bateman to be a “significant contributor from Day 1.”

Sammy Watkins was the talk of minicamp, but that hasn’t changed the Ravens’ plans for Bateman,  who missed part of OTAs with a soft-tissue injury. Bateman has impressed when on the field, living up to his hype as one of the top route runners in the draft. Lamar Jackson and Baltimore’s run-heavy offense limit Bateman’s upside, but he should have a decent floor as a likely Week 1 starter on the outside.

Kudos to all of you that have have Bateman in your devy leagues prior to the this year and those of you who drafted him this year and resisted trading him because Baltimore drafted him.  Sometimes the best move is no move at all. I won't go into what I've been preaching about Bateman the last couple of years, only to say panic trading is often times unwise, especially before a guy has played an NFL down yet.

Sounds like a hammy, which could be significant. 

I might bump Sammy Watkins up on my boards a touch depending on severity, and M.Brown continues to seem like a bargain WR4.

We allow trading. 

We also try not to be vultures circling overhead the instant someone gets hurt. Generally frowned upon in our league culture.

Took 2.5 weeks for Akers to be traded, for example. Gotta at least wait until the body is cold, sorta thing. 

Or are you suggesting I c&p the Twitter update and include it with my trade offer?   :unsure:

 
I wouldn't do anything of the sort. But if you believe in Bateman's long term prospects and this injury keeps him out for the rest of training camp and potentially lingers into him struggling through the regular season, then it will cause his dynasty price to fall.  You don't have to be an ambulance chaser.

Oh, for sure - I like the kid. I'm not as high on the Baltimore passing game as some, but I do believe they need to evolve in that direction if they want to keep LJax vertical long-term. 

I'm still not sure how big he is - school listed him 6'2", 200, but his scouting profile has him at 6', 190 lbs, which seems slender. He also didn't show great in agility drills (3-cone, 20 yard shuffle, and he doesn't have a big wingspan that I like to see in a WR 

Between that & the Ravens run-heavy tendencies he's probably not a guy I'd spend a ton to acquire, and I'm kind of WR-heavy anyway.

But if he's still struggling with injury at the end of the month, sure I could see floating an offer. I have a hard time believing the team who drafted him would be willing to sell at a discount on what sounds like a hammy pull. I play with come cagey managers who would be more likely to hold in this situation. Chances are strong that they, too, are taking a long-term approach. :shrug:

2. That's more like "helped off" than "walked off" 

3. Yikes - did I mention Yikes?

4. This seems pretty significant of a hamstring pull. 

Sometimes players are dramatic, but it looked like he tried to put some weight on it & fell to the ground in pain. That does not look like a short-term injury to me, but hey, I'm not a doctor. 

 
Short term bummer for sure. Hopefully it's mild and he can get back on the field soon. Don't really expect too much from him this season anyway but would love for him to be healthy and give us some highlights of things to come.

Sorry Hank, thought I saw Carolina and just went with that, he in fact is with the Ravens but changes nothing in terms of how I feel about this and what I anticipate the narrative to be at this time next year.

Oh - yeah, I wouldn't tweet that. The masses would come down my row in a hurry. 

That said, this one's a pretty easy diagnosis as a hammy pull. 99.999% accuracy. Severity is what's unclear, but I've seen a lot of this injury over the decades. You can tell severity by player reaction, their physical disposition, etc. 

Dude collapsed into a heap. Pretty safe to say it's not a minor tweak.

I guess a positive is a hammy is better than a torn ACL.
