WR Rashod Bateman, BAL (2 Viewers)

It depends on what you mean by "activated".  On Tuesday he was "activated", which means he can start practicing with the team.  He was not "activated" this week by placing him on the active roster.  They have 21 days from last Tuesday to either get him on the active roster, or else he stays on IR for the rest of the season.  In terms of ESPN, they have him listed as on IR, so he's staying on my IR spot on my roster, at least for this Sunday.

Yes, this sounds about right. Per the Baltimore Sun, Bateman was "designated to return" on Tuesday. They then have 21 to "activate" him, best I can suss out.

The team website says Bell has been activated from the practice squad.

Specifically notes Bateman and Boykin are not back this week as they have not been activated from IR (though they are designated to return sometime in the next 2 weeks.)

Yes. That's exactly what the Sun article says.

How the looming returns of Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin might change the Ravens offense |

Bateman’s benefits

Even after his forgettable Sunday, wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is off to the best start of his career: 78.3 receiving yards per game, 15.7 yards per catch, 6.3 yards after the catch per reception, a 65.2% catch rate — all career highs if the season ended today.

With the addition of wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Brown has been freed up to line up in the slot more often. After a nearly even inside-outside split last season, he has run 57 routes from the slot and 26 on the outside this year, according to SIS.

Brown has been most productive inside, catching 11 of his 17 targets for 215 yards. Out wide, he has four receptions on five targets for just 20 yards, though two of his would-be deep catches against the Detroit Lions came after lining up on the outside.

Bateman’s arrival could benefit both Brown and Watkins. The Ravens’ top draft pick was productive wherever he lined up in Minnesota, though his near future is likely out wide. Bateman has noted his room for improvement as a blocker — a weakness that’s often magnified inside — and his biggest play of training camp, a long touchdown catch on a vertical route against star cornerback Marlon Humphrey, came as an outside receiver.

If Bateman can stay healthy and flash the form he showed during offseason workouts, the trickle-down effects on the Ravens’ offense could be profound. Watkins’ snaps could be more carefully managed. Brown’s slot usage (and perhaps effectiveness) could go up. And the ramped-up competition at wide receiver could foster even greater improvement.

“We feel great about what we’ve seen,” Roman said of Bateman. “We’re going to kind of get a feel and a sense as we go with what he does really well and how we can apply him. But it certainly gives us opportunities to basically just take Rashod’s ability and put it to use, really. So we’ll see how that goes. Certainly, yesterday was his first day back, and we’re excited about that. But from what we’ve seen, I think good things are going to happen there.”

Any word on Bateman?  I thought he was close to ready last week. I think I’m dumping Aiyuk to the curb for something with a little more upside.

#Ravens rookie WR Rashod Bateman will not make his debut this week, instead gearing up for Week 6 against the Chargers, per source. Ravens discussed a pitch count for the first-round pick, but coming off the groin injury they wanted to give it a little more time.

Looks like we'll have to wait another week. It's better for his health, but I'm anxious to see what this guy can do.

At first I didn't pay this situation too much attention. Baltimore was a run-heavy team with Andrews and Hollywood Brown being the focal points in the pass game. But now the Ravens have no RBs and aren't running it except for Lamar. Watching that game the other night, I started wondering what a healthy Bateman might be able to add once he's back in game-shape and up to speed. I like what I've seen of his college tape.

Agreed. I’m currently debating him and Rondale Moore. Diffeeent type of players. One is already proving it but lots of mouths to feed.

The other has proven nothing but may have much more opportunity for targets.

Rashod Bateman caught 4-of-5 targets for 29 yards in the Ravens' Week 6 win over the Chargers.

Making his NFL debut, the No. 27 overall pick actually drew Marquise Brown to a targets/production standstill, but his missed connection was a perfectly-thrown ball Bateman let bounce off his chest for a Lamar Jackson interception. Whoops. The good news is that Bateman was thrown right into the fire, and probably would have commanded more targets had the Ravens not taken such early control of the game. It is too early to call Bateman a viable WR4, but he needs to be scooped up in any 12-team league where he remains available. The Bengals are on tap for the Ravens in Week 7.

I didn't see the drop-INT but I saw a couple catches where he looked good. Nice to see him out there contributing on day 1 back from surgery. That is a pretty big deal. To do that in his debut. Not bad at all.

Serious question how much do we bump Hollywood down due to the presence of Bateman on the field? If at all. Did the sell high window on Hollywood just close?

Put another way, do Bateman and Hollywood now cancel each other out? For FF?

I think two solid WRs can thrive in this offense.

WR3 with upside going forward. Hollywood brown's WR1 days are probably short-lived

I think Bateman is the alpha in the WR group, but Brown can still do a ton of damage on 5-6 targets. I don't know if there will be a huge drop-off, but a lot of the secondary WR targets will dry up.

Rashod Bateman ran a pass route on 66.6 percent of Lamar Jackson's drop backs in Week 6 against the Chargers.

The rookie reeled in four of his five targets for 29 yards (and dropped a pass the resulted in an interception) in his pro debut against LA. With Sammy Watkins (hamstring) sidelined, Bateman played nearly 70 percent of the Ravens' offensive snaps and ran 22 routes -- the second most routes among Baltimore wide receivers. A Ravens offense passing far more often than they have in the Lamar Jackson era could give Bateman WR3 appeal in the coming weeks. Watkins' return could complicate matters if Bateman doesn't flash in the next week or two.

That was more or less my take all offseason but then Bateman got hurt and Hollywood exploded. Much more so than I had given him credit for being capable of. So now I wonder just how dominant an alpha Bateman can be in this offense, especially with Andrews there as well. Great for Lamar shares. Except yesterday when two 29 year old running backs and one 31 year old scored rushing TDs. That had to be a little bit of an outlier. But Lamar did look good again.

Seriously who had Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman, and Le'Veon Bell all scoring a TD for the same team in the same game on their bingo cards for 2021?

He has been stashed in an IR spot for six weeks. Had to move him to the active roster last night so I could put in FAAB claims (software won’t allow any changes if available active player is still on IR.)

ANYWAY

Have 3 on a bye thank week, he’s probably my Flex Week 7. That alpha thing might be right around the corner but I’dsettle for 8-12 points in full PPR.

I just need him to NOT Aiyuk me. Lost a game by 0.14 Week 1. Didn’t goose egg me, he put up 0.28 (7 PR yards.) Another 4 yards and of returns or ONE catch and I woulda been good.

I should probably let that go…

I'm just glad the team took it easy on him (and got him back 100% healthy). They showed no hesitation in getting him in there right away, and he made an immediate impact. What's not to like here?

Since when has Andrews ever been an Alpha? He's being paid like a top-end TE, which includes blocking and receiving abilities. He's not Kelce

So you're basically saying that Bateman is Steve Smith and Hollywood is Torrey Smith?

Groin injury, listed as QUESTIONABLE but  Harbs says he has a good shot to play.

Add:  Sammy is due back sooo...

Ravens HC John Harbaugh gives update on WR Rashod Bateman

The Baltimore Ravens wrapped up their final day of practice before taking on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9. They could be getting one of their wide receivers back on the field in Sammy Watkins, but a surprising development came out of Friday’s session, as wide receiver Rashod Bateman was absent.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh gave an update on the rookie after practice on Friday, saying that the receiver’s injury is “nothing serious” and that he “has a real good chance for Sunday”.
On the positive side when Marquise Brown was asked about the chemistry with Bateman he said it was good and that Rashod is ready to have a 'break-out' game.

Ravens WR Marquise Brown talks about chemistry with WR Rashod Bateman

... with [Rashod] Bateman, he’s two games in, and he’s ready to have that [big] game ...

Not a great late week injury to see for Bateman, seeing as that’s what held him out preseason and into the season.

Was going to auto start him with confidence from here on out and now I have no idea what to do with him. Limited Bateman vs Rondale (w/McCoy) is the kind of decision I am looking at. If Kyler plays I probably won't blink at it.

Rashod Bateman caught 5-of-8 targets for 52 yards in the Ravens' Week 9 win against the Vikings.

Bateman was oh-so-painfully close to his NFL breakout performance, once again operating as a starter with Sammy Watkins (hamstring) sidelined and seeing several downfield shots from Lamar Jackson -- two of which nearly connected for long gains. Coming off an 80-yard performance in Week 7 against Cincinnati, Bateman has established himself as a consistent part of the Ravens' surprisingly voluminous passing offense. He's likely surpassed Watkins on the depth chart, though the Ravens could turn back to the veteran when he's fully healthy. The rookie should be rostered in 12-team leagues and will have flex viability in Week 10 against an atrocious Dolphins defense.

I'm going to go on record to call tonight's Baltimore at Miami game as the breaking out game for Mr. Rashod Bateman.  8+ Receptions, 100+ yards, and 1+ TD's.

Breaking the seal tonight on the rookie since Chase Claypool is listed as QUESTIONABLE and all my other WR options are on BYE weeks.

My third week in a row starting him. He's done decent to fill in for some base level points at flex...but hoping the top comes off this week!

Someone on TV called this last week, someone in another thread called it this morning.

Ive been starting him for a few weeks because I really don’t have a choice in a start 10 ppr league

I hope you’re right

Watkins back tonight so won't that hurt Bateman?

I think it hurts Duverny. Watkins plays the slot for that team.

And honestly, this should be the question that Brown owners are asking themselves in regards to Bateman. I wouldn't be shocked if all of those targets that Brown gets start shifting a bit towards Bateman.

Ravens vs. Dolphins: Key matchups

Excerpt:

Marquise Brown and Rashod Bateman vs. Xavien Howard and Byron Jones

The improved play from the wide receiver position has been apparent while watching the Ravens’ offense this season.

Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, currently sixth in the NFL in yardage among wide receivers, is in the middle of his best season since being drafted in the first round of the 2019 draft. Rookie first-rounder Rashod Bateman has looked the part since returning from a groin injury to form a legitimately dangerous duo at the position for the first time in years for Baltimore.

Brown and Bateman will face quite the challenge on Thursday when they square off against a pair of All-Pro cornerbacks in Xavien Howard and Byron Jones. The Dolphins have allowed the third-most passing yards per game through the first nine weeks whereas the Ravens’ offense currently ranks eighth in the NFL for passing yards per game.

Veteran Sammy Watkins may return to play on Thursday, which would give Baltimore a third dependable option at wide receiver.

Breaking out the Bateman tonight in my flex over Crowder, Rondale Moore and Brandon Bolden.
I'm torn. I'm starting Van Jefferson on a Monday Night for one flex spot. For the other I could start Bateman as I have DHop and I don't think he's gonna play. But I also have Ingram and I don't want to start Bateman if there's a chance Kamara sits.

Sigh. FF.

Leaning Bolden now over Bateman. Thinking Bolden’s floor will be higher than Bateman’s. I’m a lifelong Dolphins fan and I have a hard time seeing them keeping pace with Baltimore tonight.

Interesting tweet for those starting Bateman. Not sure it affects his snaps and targets, but still not a nice thing to give me warm and fuzzies.

I think I’m still starting him over Sutton. But I own Jeudy too, so I find it hard to start both Denver WRs.

“Ravens starting OL in warmups: LT Alejandro Villanueva, LG Ben Powers, C Bradley Bozeman, RG Kevin Zeitler, RT Tyre Phillips Devonta Freeman was the 1st-team RB and Marquise Brown and Sammy Watkins were the starting WRs”
