After deleting the tweet, he sent out a new message: "My apologies"

I'm being honest when I say that when I saw DeCosta's comments in real time my thought at the time was if I was a WR on the Ravens, specifically Bateman, I'd have taken what DeCosta was saying as a slight. So when I saw Bateman respond I thought "good for him". My guess is DeCosta got ahold of him and explained what he meant and all was good.

Then a few hours later he has to retract or walk it back, does that retraction erase the sincere emotion he displayed in his Twitter outburst?
To me it shows that certain players don't enjoy playing for Baltimore or have challenges in this system as it is set up.
My point is you don't often post things like this about your organization on Twitter and when he did, he had to quickly walk it back, likely out of fear or retaliation.
Doesn't paint a positive picture of what is unfolding in Baltimore between Jackson and the Ravens
My personal opinion while yes he's probably had some mounting frustration for sure but his main reason for making that deleted tweet was not to defend Lamar or over any past frustrations. It was just in response to the GM slamming the WR's he drafted which of course includes him. GM's don't speak in public often and this is an example of why, this was foot in your mouth stuff. Like I was saying earlier I watched Decosta live give those comments and wondered what he was thinking that there was no way what he was saying would go over well with the WR's.
ETA-Decosta IMO not trying to slam his WR's as much as he was trying to be self-deprecating. But he flubbed it.

People or Organizations and players that like each other don't typically do these things.
I don't remember Josh Allen having any games played with his money when it was time to extend. And i don't remember Allen saying a negative word about the Bills.
Joe Burrow to his credit has done everything on the field possible and also says the right things off the field, talks about being a Bengal for LIFE, he's been very clear about that.
Jackson seems to be linked to possibly many teams in the NFL, seems to release info saying he is interested in NY, MIA, etc...posturing? Doesn't feel that way.
It's 2023, things have changed since 1983 and these days players seem to mostly get what they want.
Players in the future will look at how this situation is handled to gauge if they want to sign with the Ravens. Kind of a slippery slope

The extra reason Bateman was so salty is because Ravens players from the past have been unloading on the Ravens for not keeping them healthy, and pushing the players into injuries. This is a pretty major story.

Hiring and keeping Steve Saunders for as long as they did appears to be a poor decision. Firing him appears to be a good decision.
Obviously, there's plenty of tension in the organization right now. They just fired a hated strength coach, and they are $100 million off in negotiating with their QB. It's hard not to have tension with all that going on.
But all that matters is the quality of decisions they make going forward. If the organization is competitive and well run, they won't have any issues signing players.

Obviously, there's plenty of tension in the organization right now. They just fired a hated strength coach, and they are $100 million off in negotiating with their QB. It's hard not to have tension with all that going on.
But all that matters is the quality of decisions they make going forward. If the organization is competitive and well run, they won't have any issues signing players.
If they were a well run machine this wouldn't be playing out in the media.
Others can feel differently but I don't see the Ravens as a team where skill position players flock.
Defense is whole other story. Ravens pay their defensive players and always have.

I am 100% in, and recently bought in both of my dynasty leagues. 6'1-2, 200-ish lbs, 4.39 40, 1st round draft capital (27th overall pick)
Still just 23 years old, with only 30 year old OBJ as WR competition, though arguably the 2nd target behind Andrews (depending how the new OC schemes things) - his performance to-date has been hindered by 1st a groin injury requiring surgery, and last year plantar surgery, neither of which are expected to impact his future ability.
With a new OC in town, IMO Bateman is a terrific buy-low candidate. He's built like JSN with a much faster 40 time, and in college he was moved around in formations.
He can be acquired with a mid-2023 2nd, or an early 2024 2nd, which I believe leaves plenty of room for profit.
Planting my flag: Bateman is your best bet as a buy-low FF WR.

His risk is built into his cost, so I like the call. Bateman vs. Cedric Tillman, Dalton Kincaid or Zach Evans? The upside of Bateman is worth taking a chance on.

There's also a very real chance that a more traditional passing offense is in the works, as Greg Roman is gone. I don't believe it's a safe assumption that Andrews will be the #1 target in this passing game.
Certainly not suggesting Andrews will be an afterthought, and if LJax is behind center I expect him to look for Andrews plenty - the heart wants what the heart wants.
But there's definitely a possibility that the Ravens lean into the passing game more than they did under Roman. Todd Monken's most frequently used offense was 12 personnel with 2 TE, 2 WR, but he ran a much more vertical offense than Roman, so while TBD, it seems to point this way.
I fully expect that 2 WR set to be Bateman/OBJ for as long as OBJ is vertical.

I have resubmitted a trade offer for Bateman after the OBJ signing in Balt to see if owner has reconsidered the 2.07 pick. They have the 2.05 and a 4th. Not much else in picks. They are competitive roster but lost Hall & 3 WR last season but they need several WR to step up this year (Sutton, WanRob, Sky & Rondel Moore).

Smith fired the warning during an appearance on NFL Total Access. The 43-year-old who tallied 1,065 yards for the Ravens in 2014, told Bateman, “Hey, Bateman. Zay Flowers goes across the middle. Odell Beckham goes across the middle. Sometimes you may think you’re the high-priced cow on the farm. Step up, or get stepped out. You better learn to go across the middle, or you’re going to be sitting on the bench like me cause I’m retired.”

I’m not that concerned as a Bateman shareholder.
I expected the Ravens to draft a WR. I’m thrilled it was a 5’9” 180 Lb guy and not JSN or QJ.
OBJ isn’t exact young or the model of good health and I expect more 3 WR sets with the new OC who favors a vertical game.
If anything it’s just a better buy low opportunity for Bateman.

As for the statement that the targets will be difficult to come by for him, it is worth noting that he is far and away the most complete receiver on the team, with speed and size that no one else there can match. I also only expect about 10 games out of Odell Beckham, Jr.as well.
I still feel like there’s a great buy-low opportunity here but that window is probably closing fast.

To think that this was my guy until he measured two inches shorter and twenty pounds lighter than listed in college. I was saved by that. I almost traded Micah Parsons for him right after a draft once, and decided I needed Parsons more. That turned out fortuitous so far. This guy's career has been befallen by injury.

He had screws removed, and apparently a normal side effect is needing a cortisone shot while the foot adjusts.
Harbaugh seemed to suggest he’s close, like any day now.
If he’s running, that’s good.
Admittedly he’s been frustrating, but I’m not throwing in the towel. I just wished I’d waited a little longer to buy in both leagues.

I have him on one team and I’m getting close. WRs that miss multiple seasons early with various leg injuries often just fade away.
With the additions of OBJ and Flowers, Bateman was already facing serious competition and he’s now falling even further behind. He’s getting close to “roster clogger” status imo - but I’ll give him a few regular season games to change my mind.

I gave up on Bateman this off-season. I essentially traded him away for Kamara pre-plea bargain and announcement of suspension length. I think it is telling that they brought in OBJ and drafted Flowers with a high draft pick.

I’ll give you Zay Flowers because he looks like a legit talent. I worry about how he’ll hold up because of his size but I have no doubt he’ll produce when he’s on the field. But Beckham? We’re going to dismiss Bateman for missing time to injury, for a much older guy with an injury history the length of a CVS receipt? A guy who may not even be in the NFL next year? That’s who we’re worried about?
Bateman has been off to a slow start because of bad luck with injuries, there’s no denying that. Trust me it’s been discouraging for me too. He has all the makings of a stud NFL WR if he can just stay on the field. But I think we all need to give him at least this season to prove himself. Giving up heading into his age 24 season with a new offensive coordinator just seems short sighted. Don’t rely on him early on and keep him stashed away until you see how much of the pie he’ll get, but selling at his low point is not something I can condone. There’s a chance you can regret passing up that 2024 2nd round draft pick offer for him (edit: Kamara is nice value for him though, good job), but I think there’s a bigger chance you can regret passing up on the player he’s about to become.
I’m still a believer and I’m not just saying that because I have him in my dynasty roster. There’s a reason why I have him. I was sold when I researched him prior to 2021 and haven’t entertained any offers for him. So I am biased and you can take my words with a grain of salt if you wish. Perhaps I’m stubborn, but I just rather be wrong with a player I like when he’s on my roster than be wrong with a player I like when he’s on someone else’s roster.
