WR Richie James, KC (1 Viewer)

Faust

MVP
Richie James caught 9-of-13 targets for 184 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' Week 9 loss to the Packers.

Activated from injured reserve 19 days ago, James entered the evening with zero 2020 catches and 295 career yards. He went to work against an extremely injured Packers secondary, tallying gains of six, 43, five, 18, 47, nine, 41, 11 and four yards. The 41-yarder was a touchdown where James took advantage of a brutal blown coverage from the Packers' B-team defensive backs. It was an impressive effort, even if it mostly came in garbage time, but James will immediately fall back behind Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and Kendrick Bourne on the depth chart once they are over their injuries/COVID list placements. With the Saints on deck in Week 10 before a Week 11 bye, James will probably be fool's gold on next week's waiver wire.

NBC Sports' Matt Maiocco said Richie James last week earned a spot in the team's wide receiver rotation.

James looked like prime Antonio Brown in Week 9 against Green Bay, catching 9-of-13 targets for 184 yards and a touchdown. "He has earned the right to get on the field to become a more-significant contributor for as long as he remains with the 49ers," Maiocco said. Deebo Samuel (hamstring) and George Kittle (foot) remaining out for San Francisco leaves James, Brandon Aiyuk, and Kendrick Bourne as the most reliable receiving options for the Niners. Consider James a high-variance WR4 this week against the Saints.

DFS Slant:

We still prefer Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel for DFS purposes, though it seems likely the 49ers will be forced to make plays through the air to keep pace with Drew Brees and the Saints.

I really thought he would hit back a few years ago and hung on for a couple of years. At this stage I have invested in a better version- Mooney

Richie James caught 3-of-5 targets for 26 yards in the 49ers' Week 10 loss to the Saints.

James, as expected, crash landed after his monster Week 9 line against the Packers. Brandon Aiyuk resumed his WR1 role with Deebo Samuel (hamstring) out and Kendrick Bourne functioned as the team's WR2. C.J. Beathard missed James on a deep shot in the second half after James had zoomed by the Saints' secondary. James shouldn't be in fantasy lineups next week against the Rams.

Richie James caught 5-of-6 targets for 59 yards in the Giants' Week 1 win over the Titans.

No amount of spreadsheet grinding would have led anyone to predict that James would lead all Giants receivers in targets against the Titans. Stepping in for the injured Wan'Dale Robinson (knee), James turned in a solid performance for the Giants despite going scoreless on the day. James has served as a return man for most of his career but posted a career-best 23 receptions for 394 yards and one touchdown last season with the 49ers. This performance could be nothing more than a flash in the pan for James, who wasn't on anybody's fantasy radar prior to today. He could be worth a stash in deeper PPR leagues while we await the news on Robinson's injury.

Richie James caught 4-of-5 targets for 36 yards in the Giants' Week 3 loss to the Cowboys.

James continues to operate as an every-down receiver for the Giants but has posted meager 5/59, 5/51, and 4/36 receiving lines through three weeks with no touchdowns. With Sterling Shepard (knee) going down with a knee injury in the fourth quarter of this one, James' role could grow moving forward. This offense badly needs Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) and Kadarius Toney (hamstring) healthy and playing snaps. James will be a PPR-specific WR5 next week against the Bears.

Sterling Shepard tore his ACL in Week 3 against the Cowboys and is out for the rest of the season.

Shepard went down in a heap on the final play of New York's Monday night loss to the Cowboys. He was carted off and later diagnosed with another season-ending injury. Shepard's absence from the Giants offense will open up plenty of targets for the team's remaining receivers, including Richie James, who has functioned as the team's WR2 in the early going. Kadarius Toney, if he can come back from a hamstring issue and earn the trust of Giants coaches, could slot in as the team's new top wideout with Shepard sidelined.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Start/Sit Advice: Sleepers & Duds (2022)

Excerpt:
Richie James (WR – NYG)

“Richie James is second on the Giants in targets and air yards — second to Sterling Shepard, who’ll miss the rest of the year with a torn ACL. Giants head coach Brian Daboll doesn’t seem optimistic that injured WRs Kadarius Toney (hamstring) and Wan’Dale Robinson (knee) will be able to return for Week 4 according to beat writer Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. With so many Giants receivers injured, James, who’s already on a 79-catch pace, figures to get a generous dose of targets against the Bears. He’ll likely see a lot of rookie slot corner Kyler Gordon, who’s given up 3.47 yards per route run into his coverage, according to PFF, and is currently graded 91st out of the 103 cornerbacks PFF has graded. James is worthy of lineup consideration this week, especially in PPR leagues.”
– Pat Fitzmaurice (FantasyPros)

“Richie James is a fantastic sleeper to target this week. He’s seen a 20.5% target share that will get a bump with Sterling Shepard sidelined and Kenny Golladay proving that he should hang up his cleats. James has been effective this year as the 36th-highest graded receiver per PFF (immediately ahead of Jerry Jeudy) while ranking 46th in yards per route run. James will run about 84% of his routes against Kyler Gordon, who has been arguably the league’s worst slot corner. Gordon has allowed all 15 targets in his coverage to be secured with the most slot yards allowed and a perfect passer rating (158.3, per PFF).”

Richie James caught 2-of-2 targets for 18 yards in the Giants' Week 6 win over the Ravens.

James has little to no fantasy upside after catching two or fewer passes for the third-consecutive week. The veteran receiver surprised fantasy managers in Week 1 with a six-target performance but has seen just seven targets in the last three weeks combined. He can be dropped in all formats.

Richie James is in the NFL's concussion protocol.

James exited Week 14's game against the Eagles with a brain injury and is now iffy to suit up for Week 15 against Washington. James, the Giants' primary slot receiver, caught seven balls for 61 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles, leading all New York pass catchers. James would be a PPR floor option if he's able to play against the Commanders.

Richie James caught 4-of-5 targets for 42 yards in the Giants’ Week 15 win over the Commanders.

After leaving the Giants' Week 14 game with a concussion, Richie James returned to the lineup to lead the team in receiving against the Commanders. He started hot, catching three balls in the first half before adding his longest grab of the night on his lone target in the second. The fill-in slot receiver maintains relatively modest expectations in a low-volume Giants pass attack, but fantasy managers in a pinch during the fantasy playoffs can do worse than taking a flier on the shifty wideout.

Richie James caught 4-of-6 targets for 31 yards in the Giants' Wild Card Round win over the Vikings.

James had a few nice catches, looking shifting on a 13-yard catch, his longest of the day. However, he finished fourth on the Giants in receiving yards behind Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, and Saquon Barkley. James will be a dart throw receiving option against the Eagles in the Divisional Round. As a slot receiver, his best path to upside is high-end receiving volume. If the Eagles push the Giants, it's possible the Giants will drop back frequently.

Chiefs signed WR Richie James, formerly of the Giants.

James was drafted by the 49ers in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He spent three years with the team before being waived/injured because of a knee issue in 2021. He spent most of his time in San Francisco as a returner, though injuries ahead of him on the depth chart occasionally pushed him into a larger role. He was set to play a similar role for the Giants but a myriad of circumstances thrust him into a starting job once again. He made the most of his opportunity in New York, totaling 569 receiving yards and four scores on 57 catches. He will likely compete with Skyy Moore for punt return duties in Kansas City while serving as a reserve option at wide receiver.

Competent NFL receiver, underwhelming FF option.
He was, yes.
A top 3 receiving option in KC perhaps would be.
JuJu was the second leading receiving option last year and was tough to trust in the FF lineup. I think James has potential to have a similar role but falls short of the amount of production JuJu hit. It will be interesting to see how KC plays the receiving options they have as it seems like there could be a multitude of different results from the group of MVS, Toney, James, Skyy….and whomever else ends up being in the mix.

True. I’d be more interested in best ball.

It's Day 1, but James looked like a player who could thrive with yards after the catch. He had 176 YAC last year with the Giants, and you could see why... he had a few moments where the crowd reacted after making a defender miss.

Reid on James: "He's familiar with the offense because he had Mike Kafka [in New York], so he didn't have to go through and learn everything here. Just maybe a few new things, and I like what I've seen from him. He's a good football player, has a great feel for things."

Thanks to Lammey and Bloom, I was able to pick him up a few weeks ago. Don't sleep on the Audible.

Personally I think all these guys (and I know this isn't going out on a limb) are going to have some weeks and we are going to have to wait and see how it plays out
Toney, Moore, James, Rice, Scantling

End of the day choosing the correct guy in KC's WR corps is going to payoff, its just who is going to be that guy.

Think Kelce is the biggest benefiter as he is the clear cut guy and all the others have to establish themselves

The KC WR corps should be nicknamed "Chasing Points"

This will probably be the most roster churned team position group in all of magic football this season.

They will cost people far more games as they chase last weeks points than they will help people win.

This. Mahomes puts up 45 TDs and only Kelce gets more than 10...it's so unpredictably predictable.
