WR Ricky Pearsall, SF (2 Viewers)

I’m a Bay Area guy, Niners fan, and own Pearsall in fantasy. Trust me, I’m rooting for him hard. But, Kittle is the best TE right now, CMC is arguably the best RB, Aiyuk is a top 15-20 WR when healthy, and Jennings is no slouch. Indeed, the Niners have perhaps the best set of skill players in the game. So we have to build the possibility of regression into Pearsall’s projections.

I think I’m with Hot Sauce Guy here. I see him as a high-end WR3 ROS, as there’s just too much variance for me to rank him higher. I need to get a better picture of when/ where Aiyuk, in particular, fits in.
Pearsall is playing at least as well as Aiyuk ever did, IMO. Aiyuk will be the #2 (if they're both healthy, yeah right).
It has more to do with the many mouths that need feeding vs the pecking order. Regardless of what you think of Pearsall v Aiyuk, Kittle is arguably the number one receiving option. Of course, theres CMC, Jennings, and Robinson, too. They have a stacked set of skill players when everyone is healthy.

I thought we had the clarity we needed to firmly place Pearsall in the mid-WR2 range ROS, as Lynch said Aiyuk is not close and Jennings was hurt again. However, Pearsall’s knee sprain messes that up. So, we’re back to a high variance situation that’s difficult to project and Pearsall remains a high-end WR3 (in my rankings) pending further clarity.

Dr. Chao said these PCL injuries can be touch and go, as most of it has to do with pain management. Like, Mac Jones has been playing through his, Jayden Daniels still seems somewhat gimpy, and Bowers tried to tough his out but ultimately had to take a seat.

Mac Jones must be made of iron.

2 shots couldn't stop me I took it an smiled

Now I'm bout to set the record straight

With my bum knee I'm still the WR that you love to hate

A few weeks ago, we were saying that Pearsall doesn’t need to worry about Aiyuk because the latter was a long way off. But, if Shanny wasn’t gaslighting us when he said that Aiyuk’s target is week 10, Aiyuk is not only a concern but he may even come back before Pearsall!

Great decision not to put him on IR 🙄
They didn't think he'd be out 4 weeks with the injury.

Shanahan today on whether Pearsall has had a setback:

"I don't think it's a setback, it's just not going as fast as we want it. But nothing new has happened."

It just sounds like next week is in doubt too at this point. Kind of a miss by the medical team.

I think someone needs to look into the SF medical team. They seem to have some of the most injuries annually and they can't seem to figure out how to get players back on the field quickly.

Definitely. This should have been an IR stint

They need to watch North Dallas Forty.

I had to drop him in my short bench league. With Wilson occupying my IR slot, Daniels hurt and Walker, BTJ and Laporta on bye I didn't have much choice. Hoping I can pick him back up next week, but I'm less enthusiastic about his ROS prospects as each week passes

Still not practicing. Why wasn't he put on IR?
Because as Shanahan has said, the injury is taking way longer to heal than they thought it would. Had they known he'd be out this long, they would have definitely put him on IR
Crappy team doctors, or Pearsall not being truthful to the coach?
Maybe it just didn't respond as expected to rest/rehab/treatment. Recovery times can vary based on lots of factors.

I had to jump ship last week, but man this is kind of crazy. I was going to be ready to grab him back this week off waivers but now I think I'll just leave him there.

Considering this team I’m going to go with crappy doctors/training staff.

Alitifhus value was beginning of season with all the wrs hurt.
I wouldn't count on Piersal having more than 4-5 targets a game.
Once Aiyuk is healthy,Kittle now healthy,J Jennings and CMC all needing targets. Just not enough to go around.
Piersal is a wr2-3 ros.

This is kind of interesting. Every teams' adjusted games lost, a statistic by Aaron Schatz. From Reddit, directly.

"Most-injured teams in the past decade: Many teams have had bad injury luck for a couple season, but most regress to the mean eventually (around 74 AGL). Looking at the data, there are two major outliers: the Washington Commies (avg: ~109 AGL) and the San Francisco 49ers (avg: ~102 AGL). No other teams averaged even 92 Adjusted Games Lost over the past decade, making these teams true outliers. In the 49ers' case, recent seasons have dragged that average up (their 2020-21 season was the second-worst in the decade behind only the 2021-22 Ravens, and their 2021-22 season was also pretty terrible). The Redsnyders have been more consistently terrible, with jaw-droppingly bad seasons in 2013-14, 2015-16, 2017-18, and 2019-20. Trent Williams may have made a good decision to escape that medical staff (but a bad one when picking his destination; as a Niners fan, I'm not complaining)." — AKushWarrior

I doubt all these guys stay healthy the rest of the year. That goes for Pearsall too though. There's something wrong in San Fran medical staff.

Droppable
Like anything, probably depends on your league size and roster construction. Certainly not a must hold if you need the roster spot and you have better options out there, but I'm holding because Purdy and Pearsall seem to have some chemistry and maybe the ball is not just dumped off to CMC ad nauseum when they're both back. The return of Aiyuk is out there, but who knows how effective he'll be this season, and Jennings appears to be playing through a myriad of injuries.

I am going to give one week of seeing Purdy and Pearsall together again, and if the signs look bad, I'll drop then.

Word. He’s just been my IR spot holder for weeks now. And what makes it aggravating is how he becomes questionable every Tuesday morning only to not practice the next day and be ruled out again come Friday. Rinse and repeat. Still holding him though. My league is too big for me to drop him.

Well if you're been holding up to this point, you are definitely best served not to drop him now.
Nope, just holding and waiting. If he had been healthy, I think he would have been having a huge year.
I agree, the thing is, sometimes injuries can be a benefit because I would have never got him in a trade package if he were having a huge year.

Been taking the hits on his unavailability, but hope that turns around soon and he gets back to how he started this year.
