WR Robinson Making Great Impression

Source: ESPN.com, Pro Football Weekly

Original Article: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/new...02=stateChanged

Summary: Word is the most impressive Niners rookie so far this offseason has been fourth-round pick Michael Robinson, who's being thought of initially as a third-down back but could end up filling several roles. Robinson's running style reminds longtime Niners watchers of a much bigger Charlie Garner in that he always seems to move forward when carrying the ball.

Personal view: It sounds as if Robinson, along with Antonio Bryant and Vernon Davis, may give Alex Smith quite an arsenal to develop with. It's starting to look like there are reasons for hope in San Fransisco.

"The offense I ran in college as quarterback, I did a lot of running there. I took a lot of hits. All during my career, I've been playing some variation of running back and carrying the ball. I'm used to the ball in my hands."

I don't know if arsenal is the term I would use. Bryant is a decent wr but maybe the 20th best wr in the NFL if he's lucky, Davis may be a stud but the NFL is very deep at the TE position and Robinson if he somehow started would be the 30+ best rb in the league. Couple that with a huge question mark in Alex Smith = I probably won't have a 9'er on any of my teams this year.

Banger, I guess I meant for Smith to develop WITH them.....you have to admit, there is some decent potential there.
I would agree that there is potential. I've always liked Bryant and Vernon Davis looks to have the potential to be a stud. I have to admit I don't know much at all about Robinson but that situation is definitely something to keep an eye on. I guess my biggest problem is that I'm not an Alex Smith fan and don't think he'll be a successful qb.

Granted Alex Smith had a horrible rookie year, but you can't write off the guy yet. He's put on muscle this offseason, he's no longer that lanky QB we saw last year. Also, football guys has him down as running for 250 yards, which I think is about right. He's a really mobile QB.Anyways, back to MRob talk. I may be totally off here, but I have high hopes for this guy. He might get a chance this year, it's not like Barlow (Twinkle Toes) and Gore (Injury Risk) are studs.

Kevin, you wrote "wr" in your title and the article mentions him as a RB. kinda funny, in a spot we're all in. Where do you guess he plays?

Well, I am guessing he could be used in multiple ways, maybe even a poor mans Reggie Bush. Now, dont get me wrong, he ISNT Reggie Bush, but I could see him as a 3rd down RB, a slot WR, an emergency QB, and maybe even a KR @ some point.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.... I would love to see Robinson try the other side of the ball. I think he could make an excellent ball hawking safety.
