Broncos wide receiver Rod Smith suffered what was portrayed as a minor hamstring injury during Wednesday morning's training camp practice at Dove Valley, CBS4 Broncos Insider Reggie Rivers reported.

The injury happened during an offense-on-defense scrimmage. Jake Plummer was throwing to Smith as he broke across the middle on a deep cross. The problem was Plummer threw the ball to the outside as if he'd expected Smith to run a corner route.

It appeared to be a miscommunication, but then Smith pulled up a little bit. He didn't grab his hamstring, but did walk off the field gingerly.

Smith sat out the rest of practice, but he didn't have ice on his leg and the trainers didn't take him inside for immediate treatment.

After practice, head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Smith had injured his hamstring. He said Smith was held out of the remainder of the drills as a precaution. Shanahan doesn't anticipate that Smith will be out for long.

Hamstring injury on a WR = bad
Did you read the article? He didn't grab his hamstring, he didn't get helped off the field, he didn't ice his leg, he didn't even leave the field. Sounds more like a cramp than a pull, unless it's the most minor pull in the history of hamstring injuries.

If it were a cramp, wouldn't Shanny had just said he cramped up some and not used the word "injury (using the article's words).

I never said it was a cramp, I just said it sounded more like the way you'd describe a cramp than a pull. I think if this happened during the season it wouldn't even be reported.I don't know, this franchise knows what Rod Smith means to them. I think if they were even the slightest bit concerned, they would take him into the locker room and work him over.
