WR Sammy Watkins, BAL (2 Viewers)

Hah, so... being locked down by single coverage or a hammy is playing his role.

I think you should go into every matchup and think you are going to beat this dude.  If you can't get open in KC with Kelce/Hill taking the double teams... you're washed.  This thread needs a title change 🤣

League Dominator is suggesting I pick him up off the WW and start him.

AYFKM?

This guy hasn’t been a WR6 the last three years, no wait - he hasn’t done jack since 2014. He went from the best passing attack to THE lowest volume, hasn’t practiced all summer, and I should START HIM?

We start 3 and my WR corps is Adams-Lamb-Sutton-JuJu-Cooks. You couldn’t pay me enough to roster this guy.

I would start my 16th round WR6 (Terrance Marshall) over Sammy. I’m flabbergasted anyone thinks he is still relevant. Zero upside.

MT has him ranked high & league dominator mobile is only showing two projections. LD just came out so NBD, hopefully it’ll get updated and self correct.

Still stupefying anyone could be so out of touch with where Sammie is at rn.

  he’s my wr7 in one league. Almost certainly my next waiver drop (maybe for moe Alie-Cox)

Ravens WR Sammy Watkins (undisclosed) returned to practice Wednesday.

Watkins was absent for an extended period with an undisclosed injury. Even so, OC Greg Roman said the team was not "overly concerned" about the missed time because Watkins "would be ready to go" for the team's regular season opener in Vegas. With Marquise Brown also back in individual drills, both Watkins and the latter are projected to start in two-wide sets with some combination of James Proche II, Devin Duvernay, and Tylan Wallace from the boundary while Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin (injured reserve) are sidelined for the first three games of the year.

Sammy Watkins caught 4-of-8 targets for 96 yards in the Ravens' Week 1 loss to the Raiders.

Watkins led the Ravens in targets and receiving yards in this one, and his big play was a 49-yard catch behind LB Nick Kwiatkoski in the fourth quarter to set up Latavius Murray's eight-yard touchdown run. 28-year-old Watkins will be on the WR3/4 map for next week's showdown with the Chiefs on Sunday night.

4 more catches for 44 yards on 7 targets. Led the WRs with 92% snap rate. Why no love, especially with the Jets on deck?

Sammy Watkins exited Week 5 against the Colts with a hamstring injury and is questionable to return.

It was only a matter of time until Watkins endured his first Baltimore injury. He made it just five weeks. Prior to leaving, Watkins caught 2-of-3 targets for 35 scoreless yards. We'll see more Devin Duvernay, James Proche, and Miles Boykin.

Ravens declared WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) out for Week 6 against the Chargers.

Watkins has been playing well this season with a strong 2.09 yards per route run. His absence comes at an unfortunate time, as it could allow Rashod Bateman the chance to earn additional playing time if he has a strong debut. Even if Bateman delivers on a strong prospect profile, Watkins is still likely to play ahead fo Devin Duvernay when he returns. Duvernay has run a route on 62% of dropbacks but has an extremely poor 0.83 YPRR, and the Ravens offense would operate more efficiently with Bateman or Watkins taking over his role.

I got this guy back in 2016 when he was still considered a top 15 for dynasty purposes.  What a roster clogger.

Happy to see the thread title change.  The few times a year this thread bubbled up to the top was just a frustrating reminder of what should have been.  Now I see this thread and think oh yeah, who is in the WW that I should drop this guy for.

The consummate “can’t quite drop him for waiver fodder but I don’t ever want to start him” player. I still have him in one league only because there’s nothing on waivers unless Geno smith or a possible idp filler interests you.

Sammy Watkins (hamstring) didn't practice Friday.

The Baltimore Sun's Jonas Shaffer said Watkins is likely out for Week 7 against the Bengals. It's a noteworthy development for rookie Rashod Bateman, who saw solid usage in his return from injury last week, running a route on 67 percent of Lamar Jackson's drop backs and tying for the team lead with six targets. Bateman is a sneaky good Week 7 option against the pass-funnel Bengals defense.

Sammy Watkins (hamstring) returned to practice Tuesday.

It will be the first showing of Baltimore's offense with both Rashod Bateman and Watkins in the mix, potentially sinking the rookie's 19% target share from Lamar Jackson in his last three games. Bateman should still be stashed (or started) as a long-term WR3/4 with the assumption he's talented enough to beat out Watkins in two-wide sets for the rest of the year.

Packers signed WR Sammy Watkins, formerly of the Ravens, to a one-year contract.

The contract can be worth "up to" $4 million. Are there expectations to be tempered at this point? After six consecutive years with fewer than 60 receptions? The Packers certainly are lacking for targets after losing Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but Watkins has not done much of anything since 2015 outside of the 2019 Chiefs Super Bowl run. It's a worthwhile flier for the Packers, but unless we start seeing rave training camp reports, Watkins will probably fit better as offseason best ball speculation.

Say what you will about Watkins, he's a better WR than MVS in my opinion, and when healthy is a credible WR.

GB basically has a trio (Lazard/Watkins/Cobb) of guys I'd be fine with as #3 WRs.

Still think 2 of their first 4 picks could be WRs.

Meh, veteran presence that will hopefully be available more than he's been and help the newly drafted WR's get up to speed. Oh wait, that's Cobb....oh wait :oldunsure:

Nothing against him personally as a real player, but as a fantasy player, Watkins has been on my never draft again list since week 3 2019. He will have 1 good game and at least 12 bad ones and 3 missed due to injury. Good luck guessing which week he'll have that 1 good game.

Will Fuller, if his hand and head are ready.
It really is the call I would make.  Speed the stretch the field.  He and Cobb and Watkins...all injury risks so hopefully among the 3 of them you have 2 healthy at most times and have them to teach different styles to different young receivers.

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman believes Sammy Watkins isn't a lock to make the Packers' final roster.

Schneidman said Watkins has a wide range of outcomes on Green Bay's roster after the team signed him to a one-year deal worth up to $4 million this week. The oft-injured Watkins could be the team's No. 1 wideout, Schneidman said, or he might be a summertime roster cut, depending on what the Packers do in the NFL Draft. Watkins, 29 in June, has played one full NFL season since being drafted by the Bills in 2014. If he enters the season as Green Bay's top receiver, things could go sideways very quickly for the perpetually disgruntled Aaron Rodgers. Without a wideout splash pick in the draft, the Packers will have one of the NFL's worst receiver groups.

Packers HC Matt LaFleur told reporters that Sammy Watkins is "going to be a big part of our offense."

It's early June and puffery is in the air, but it wasn't long ago that reports on Watkins were cautioning that he might not make the final 53. That risk seems to have lessened considerably. The Packers Wire also quotes Aaron Rodgers saying that he is excited about Watkins and that there are "going to be opportunities for him to make plays in this offense." Watkins' play has declined over the last few seasons, but there are plenty of targets available in the Packers' offense, giving him a chance to return to fantasy relevance.

I've been nabbing him in best balls pretty late.   I wouldn't expect consistency so best ball is the perfect format for him.

Just crazy to me he's only broken 600 yards once in the past 6 seasons. And that he's still just 28 and only 2 years older than Lazard :lmao:

He will be a big part of the offense for one game, likely week 1 or 2. Afterwards, you will regret starting him for the rest of the season.

Packers removed Sammy Watkins from the active/NFI list.

Head coach Matt LaFleur said Watkins should be able to practice with the team after missing the first week of training camp with an undisclosed injury. The oft-injured Watkins has an outside chance to stumbling into some target volume if he can stay healthy this summer, as outside WR Christian Watson is sidelined with a knee issue.

PSA

Over the past 3 seasons, Sammy Watkins has just 3 games with at least 75 receiving yards:
  • Week 1, 2019: 198 receiving yards
  • Week 1, 2020: 82 receiving yards
  • Week 1, 2021: 86 receiving yards Week 1

Sammy Watkins caught all three of his targets for 18 yards in the Packers' Week 1 loss to the Vikings.

Watkins was poised for a large role because of the absence of Allen Lazard but failed to make anything of the opportunity. He was out-targeted by both of Green Bay's rookie receivers and the team's running backs. With Lazard possibly coming back for Week 2, Watkins could be sent to waivers in most fantasy leagues.

Sammy Watkins led all Packers wide receivers with a 67% snap share.

While Watkins led the receiver group in snaps, he did so with a paltry 67% share, well below a full-time rate. Christian Watson (66%), Randall Cobb (61%), and Romeo Doubs (57%) also saw considerable playing time. With a four-man rotation at wide receiver and four tight ends seeing at least 25% of snaps, the Packers receiving corps looks like a stay away until someone—most likely Watson or Doubs—can secure a full slate of routes.

Sammy Watkins caught 3-of-4 targets for 93 yards in Green Bay's Week 2 win over Chicago.

Watkins got wide open on Chicago's secondary on a back-breaking 55-yard fourth-quarter catch -- it was Green Bay's only catch of more than 20 yards on the day. The four targets also led the team, and Watkins had enough flow of the offense that he'll be on the FLEX line against the Buccaneers in Week 3.

Sammy Watkins (hamstring) did not practice Friday.

That makes back-to-back DNPs for Watkins, who appears likely to be held out of Week 3 with the injury at this rate. Watkins was limited on Wednesday, but apparently his hamstring didn't react well. Hamstring injuries with wideouts are not simple things and Watkins managers should -- as usual -- be prepared for him to miss some time.

Watkins injured? Shocker! :bored:

Sammy Watkins (hamstring) won't play in Week 3 against the Buccaneers.

That sentence feels familiar, reassuring in a world that feels like it's always changing around us. Watkins was limited on Wednesday trying to push through the injury, but missed both Thursday and Friday. Green Bay's other wideouts will get a value boost for Week 3, but a tough Tampa defense is projected to keep their passing game mostly in check.
