WR Sammy Watkins, BAL (1 Viewer)

I felt better after watching him jump around in the end zone after the first long TD.

If my foot hurt as bad as they say, I wouldn't have been doing that.

That being said, I think he was a decoy last night.

I have zero shares of this guy because where he was going in drafts was insanity to me. Right after TY Hilton?
Same here.

Every draft I did, I was like, no way am I taking him in the 3rd round.

Every auction I did, the price got to a point where I was like, no way am I paying that much.

I simply do not trust him to stay healthy, or for the coaching staff he plays for to use him correctly and consistently when he does play.

He will be tough to sell for most of you ... considering he was likely a high draft pick and you are expecting much more from him as the season goes.

... and he will be a tough buy for most. Considering hes had 2 bad games / shown nothing to this point and has a lingering foot injury.

I think Watkins owners are stuck with him other than some dynasty owners willing to buy at a discount and take a chance.
I really like Watkins and believe once he is fully healthy (regardless of what was posted earlier), he will be the guy we expected him to be.  Anyone who is thinking of trading him and if you're in one of my dynasty leagues, please offer him to me at a discount because I am very interested.  For all you redraft players, find another option for now.

I can't trade him and I can't drop him and it's going to end up where I never want him on my fantasy team again.
Doesn't Julio have a screw in his foot?

Wasn't even in on that final hail mary down 6 with 10 seconds left
I'm pretty sure he wasn't in at all on the drive before that as well. Nantz even mentioned it. Haven't seen any follow-up.

I watched the whole game and he was definitely more than a decoy. They took at least two shots down the field with him. One was well covered, the other was underthrown and got picked off.

To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what's going on. It was a weird game for Buffalo. They didn't have a real TD drive until the end of the game. Prior to that, they had two long bombs and a fumble return. Then again, if you have a talent like Watkins he should be able to make things happen, which indicates that the foot could be slowing him down. Or maybe it was the scheme. I'm really at a loss.

He looked a half-step slower last night.  I watched him specifically from time to time and he didn't look like himself for sure.  Still had the hands but you could tell he was hurting.

I only got to watch the second half, but I recall him walking gingerly as if he had a cramp. Wasn't quite a limp but more of a stubbed toe kinda walk.

Wish I hadn't started him. Story of my life.

Until next year when you avoid him and he goes off.

Sammy has been one of the more inconsistent fantasy assets. I think a lot of it is the inconsistency of targets more so than being injured, or dinged. If you look at the end of last year when he was featured he produced, you need targets to make plays. It also doesn't help when Tyrod takes an hour to get rid of the ball. Sammy would be better off with a QB that had better timing and utilized more than just the deep ball.

A new OC is encouraging. Now all we need is a combo of health/targets for Sammy.

From Anthony Lynn's Wiki Page

Coaching Philosophy
Anthony Lynn understands work off the field is just as important as work off the field, which is why he is able to cultivate smart intuitive players.[5] Lynn is know for advocating the infamous "Ground and Pound" technique. He likes to run the ball on offense, and keep the defense rested so they can "pound" the opposing team.[6] He provides a strong running game and has exceptional run reads.[6] Offensively, his approach spirals off the idea that the running game should open up opportunities for the passing game.[7]

Lynn has notably exceptional relationships with his players and always wants to get the most out of them.[6] Although he may have very demanding expectations of his players, he works extremely well with them and sets clear objectives to ensure that both their personal and the team's goals are met.[6] In an interview with Jonathan Williams, a running back for the Buffalo Bills, Williams praised Lynn, "He's a great teacher. He's somebody who has actually played the game and his communication is really good. I'm excited to be able to work with him and learn from him."[8] There is a mutual respect Lynn has with his players that allows him to teach the game and encourage improvement in the way his athletes carry themselves as professional football players.[9]

There are certain qualities in a running back that Lynn looks for and encourages. He likes a direct runner that can read the block and get there quickly. Lynn stresses that success is more about mentality than drills. He produces players that can analyze the situation, be creative and make decisions immediately.[10] Some of the players Lynn has coached include Fred Taylor, Julius Jones, Jamal Lewis, Thomas Jones, LaDainian Tomlinson, Shonn Greene, Chris Ivory and LeSean McCoy. These running backs have eight 1,000 yard seasons working under coach Anthony Lynn.[11]

Anthony Lynn's 3 step coaching philosophy goes as follows: pursue perfection, maximize results, innovate and relate. He believes that teaching athletes to play with confidence and not confusion is what makes them excellent players. In order to maximize results you have to align people with their passions, that is how you get the best out of them. Finally, learning to communicate and figure out each individual players learning style is key. Lynn believes in the words of Wooden that it is all about the process, not about winning. Winning should be a byproduct of preparation, effort and practice. [12]

I've got two screws in each of my feet and have still run (and obviously trained for) 4 marathons.  Having a screw in your foot shouldn't automatically be any issue.  Why the screw is there may be an issue, though.

I doubt they'll pass less, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did not pass more either.
It's not the balance that was the problem. Last night they threw 31 times. Only 5 went Sammy's way. He should be getting at least a quarter of the targets on this team, if not a third.

Good info. How long did it take to feel "normal" again?

I was in high school for both surgeries.  Most high school kids don't feel "normal" to begin with.  That said, I think I had the worst of the two feet done (this was a bunion issue) over Christmas break, and had the other foot done a few months later over Easter break.  I didn't miss any school that way.  I was running by that summer and on the cross country team with zero issue by the next school year.

Coach Rex Ryan says new OC Anthony Lynn will get Sammy Watkins more involved in the offense.
Watkins has been a non-factor with 11 targets through two weeks. Part of his struggles are health related, but teams have had success taking him away with double coverage. Watkins and LeSean McCoy should benefit the most from Lynn's promotion. Even with Greg Roman gone, Watkins is a high-risk WR2 for Week 3 against the Cardinals.

What would you sell Sammy for now? Players you think were fair? % of FAB budget? Or this just time to ride the storm out?

make sure you specify redraft vs dynasty

I would take anything of value that could help me in redraft. In dynasty I would want young talent and/or draft picks or if I had a shot to win this year would be trying to get anything that could help me win now.  Also if you have a decent size bench and can stash Watkins this might be the smart play. I couldn't in my salary cap league where I felt I had to trade him and got Corey Coleman and gio bernand back as part of a package

Cardinals CB Tyrann Mathieu confirmed that Patrick Peterson will shadow Sammy Watkins (foot) in Week 3.
Watkins is already slowed by a foot injury and now awaits a tough matchup with Peterson. New OC Anthony Lynn has vowed to get Watkins more involved but the Bills might want to think of another plan for Week 3. Watkins will be a risky WR2 this week.

People are gonna have to be patient with him this year. These foot problems tend to linger. His value is fine in dynasty. If I have him in re-draft, I'm hating my life.

:lmao: The latest issue for Sammy is because somebody accidentally stepped on his foot during a walkthrough Monday.

Bills are Billsing like they always do. One of the Billsiest things to happen in the last 2 weeks.

Man I was back and forth between him and Cooper. Have no freaking idea what I was thinking
You were thinking what we were all thinking: his foot was as fine as the Bills were saying it was and that, when healthy, Watkins is an incredible talent with an ascending QB.

Now we know the Bills are a category 5 dumpster fire.

Hindsight is 20/20, my dudes.

Currently? Not much. I've tried to move him but there's too much uncertainty and there isn't a demand for injured WRs.

I'm holding. If he can get this under control, by end of season he could come in big.
He was cut this week in my big $ league with short bench's? I put in a $15 bid ($100 yearly FA budget) and got him.

So to answer your question, his value I would say is pretty dang low right now.
