WR Stallworth Injures Hamstring? Now Questionable

Reuben Frank, Philly Burbs - [Full Article]

WR Donte Stallworth practiced some yesterday but was added to the Eagles' injury list after practice. He is now questionable for Sunday with a hamstring injury. No word on whether if it's the same hamstring strain that caused Stallworth to miss four games.

Update Thanks to Jeff Pasquino

Three other players, linebacker Jason Short, cornerback William James and wide receiver Donté Stallworth are questionable. Short (ankle) was limited in practice and missed portions of the team workout, therefore he was declared as missing practice. James did not practice all week because of a knee injury. Reid said that he expects Rod Hood to be active this week. Hood did not play in last Sunday's loss to Tennessee.

The prospects are bright for Stallworth, who was added to the injury report on Thursday because of the hamstring injury that has cost him four games this season. Stallworth completed Friday's practice and Reid declared that he is good-to-go for Sunday.

"He did a nice job out there today," Reid said. "It loosened up a little bit for him and he was able to get some things done."

Stallworth, too, was confident that he'll be ready for Sunday.

"There's no problem," said Stallworth, who ranks second on team with 518 receiving yards and averages 20.7 yards per catch. "It just tightened up on me a little bit. I'm fine."

if he doesn't play sunday or misses more then this one game, that hammy is going to be writing Stallworths plane ticket to another team..

OK, so Reggie Brown now has the #1 spot locked up, and he's playing against Indy, but has a new QB, and is also nicked up. I really have no idea what to expect from him this week.

keep in mind when starting Phila Wrs that this will be the first week that

Garcia has taken snaps with the first team this season. I'd have to agree that L.J may have a good game if he can hang on to the ball.

Stallworth is an unexpected surprise this year, for the games he has played in. Most of us didn't draft him with the expectation that he would be an all season stud. As long as he can play a few games, you can plug him and get a lot from him. Hopefully, they will sit him out this week and let him recover so he can play well in week 13. I agree with others that believe these problems can lead to Philly not re-signing him. This is a snake-bitten team, and McNabb and Westbrook are enough injury-prone players to deal with.

Unbelievable! My top 3 dynasty WR's are Colston, A. Johnson and Stallworth! :wall:And yes, :ptts:
That's rough. However, Colston and A. Johnson are solid dynasty players. Having 2 out of 3 is pretty good IMO. You can make up for the question marks regarding Stallworth.

I have Colston, Larry Fitz, ROY, S. Moss, and Stallworth in my 16 team dynasty. We start 4 WR's. I thought I was winning it all. I don't want want to hear it.

Stallworth to Start

Head coach Andy Reid announced on Friday that nickel linebacker Shawn Barber will not play this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts because of injuries to his knee and neck.

I'm fine."

As for the impact of Barber's injury, Reid said that WILL linebacker Matt McCoy - who is probable with shoulder and abdomen injuries - and strong safety Michael Lewis will work into Barber's role on nickel and dime packages. When asked about the role on Friday, Lewis said that he was surprised because he did not take any extra reps in practice this week. Lewis specifically mentioned that SAM linebacker Dhani Jones could work in there as well.

Barber is the MIKE linebacker in the dime package and Lewis is already involved in that package as a defensive back, which means McCoy or Jones would pick up that spot. Reid said that they will miss Barber because he is a "good cover linebacker." It will be interesting to see who works into the nickel package, where the Eagles replace one linebacker for an extra defensive back. The Eagles will want the defensive back to handle the Colts' explosive offense, which ranks third in the league in total yards and passing yards and fourth in points per game. But the Colts have been without the services of No. 3 receiver Brandon Stokley, who has missed the past five games with a knee injury and missed practice all week. Instead, the Colts have relied on a two tight-end set where the Eagles could utilize the added size of a linebacker.

The challenge for the Eagles defense is that the Colts operate primarily out of a no-huddle set.

"They make it hard for you to sub packages in to try to counter what they're trying to do," said Lewis. "We just have to do a great job of doing our specific job on that play."

The Eagles added cornerback Lito Sheppard to Friday's injury report. Sheppard practiced and was listed as probable with injuries to his hip and groin. Running back Brian Westbrook (knee) and defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley (toe) were also probable, but practiced on Friday.

Colts: Six Starters Questionable

The Colts have six starters who are questionable for this Sunday's game. That doesn't include Stokley, the team's No. 3 receiver. Among those starters, three of them missed Friday's practice: strong side linebacker Gilbert Gardner (rib), cornerback Nick Harper (hip) and free safety Bob Sanders (knee). Harper practiced once this week, on Thursday, but Gardner and Sanders missed practice all week.

Head coach Tony Dungy said on Friday that Harper and Gilbert would be game-time decisions, and that it looks doubtful for Stokley and Sanders.

The other starters, who were listed as questionable but should be ready for Sunday, according to Dungy, were defensive end Dwight Freeney (shoulder), guard Ryan Lilja (knee) and middle linebacker Gary Brackett (hamstring).

Former WR Ferrante Passes

The Philadelphia Eagles today announced that former WR Jack Ferrante passed away yesterday at the age of 90 at a nursing home in Yardley, Pa.

A native of Camden, NJ, Ferrante caught 169 passes for 2,884 yards and 31 touchdowns during a nine-year NFL career in Philadelphia (1941, 1944-1950). He was a member of the Eagles back-to-back NFL Championship teams from 1948-49. Ferrante's best statistical outing occurred on December 12, 1948, as he hauled in seven passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns vs. the Detroit Lions at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. Ferrante surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark six times during his career.

Ferrante, who was nicknamed "Blackjack," did not attend college before signing with the Eagles as a free agent in 1941. He instead honed his skills playing sandlot football in Philadelphia and Wilmington, DE.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

Oh Lordy, if Friday is the last day of practice, this sounds like a GTD. Thanks for the update Jeff, but I'm not encouraged, given this guy's track record. I guess we'll see what the next day and a half holds in store.

He was already a question mark because of Garcia making his first start. If anything this just helps my decision of benching his sorry ### this week.

Donté Stallworth returned to practice and went the entire time after missing Thursday's session with hamstring issues. Stallworth, who missed four games earlier this season with a strained hamstring, said he is fine and expects to play tomorrow night... Linebacker Shawn Barber (knee) did not practice yesterday and will not play against the Colts. Coach Andy Reid said he plans to have Matt McCoy and Michael Lewis working in and out of the position... Cornerback William James (knee) did not practice while linebacker Jason Short (ankle sprain) was limited in practice. Both are listed as questionable.

Stallworth's hamstring issues aren't necessarily his fault.

When I was in college, I was an NCAA All-American sprinter. I ran the 100m and 200m dash. I paid close attention to the health issues of my teammates and my competitors, many of who shared training and health info with me. Here is what I observed and learned about hamstrings, from a track and field perspective.

There are some athletes who have amazing 100m and 200m speed, but are not cut out to run the 100m and 200m because their hamstrings simply can't withstand the training and the race events, no matter what their training regiment is. It is not a matter of the athlete being a sissy or not training properly. It's simply a matter of whether that athlete is cut out to be a 100m or 200m runner or whether their body will break down if they compete in those events.

In track and field, the common solution for this type of athlete is to convert him into a 400m runner. This is done even at the world class level. Some of the best 400m runners are these type of converted 100-200m sprinters.

Playing WR in the NFL presents similar issues to those for track and field 100-200m sprinters. Unfortunately, football has no such analogy to convert to a 400m, and I believe Stallworth is one of these athletes I have described.

So, for his week 12 game, I think he's a considerable risk unless he feels at least 90%. These things tend to get worse, not better. I believe he would only get through the game if he gives less than 100% on the field. Considering the pressure he's under to be re-signed, the competitor in him may prevent him from being wiser to hold back.

The result - an injury during the game IMO.

If this is Garcia's first time practicing with the first team offense in quite a while, and Stallworth was out all week, you'd have to think that Westbrook, Reggie Brown and LJ Smith would be the beneficiaries. I don't think the Eagles can pound the ball on the Colts defense, so I'd expect them to pass a good amount. I'm thinking Reggie Brown might still be a decent start this week in a game that could be a shootout, but I don't know if I have the guts to play him.

Thanks for the insight. You have reinforced my conviction that all FBG's were All American's in multiple sports in college. Which supermodel did you marry? ;)I'm a dynasty Stallworth owner and I'm starting to believe that your line of thinking may be right. I've noted that some guys who suffered from chronic/repeated hamstring problems early on in their careers (e.g. Isaac Bruce; Fred Taylor) simply had to adjust their training regimens to help their hammy's out and ended up being fine. That process seems to take only a year or two, maybe three at the outside. Stallworth's well beyond that time frame and is still suffering from severe hammy problems. I've never heard anyone say that he's lazy or doesn't train well, so I'm starting to wonder whether this is as good as it's going to get for him.

Bump for any Sunday afternoon updates... Still have the ability to swap him of my line (for Caldwell though) as late games have not started. Any Phila insiders have any info on Stallworth??
