WR v TE pts- How do they equate? (Turning numbers into apples to apple (1 Viewer)

Knowing every league is different, WR & TE basically score the same simple way (non-ppr)....

(rec yds/10)+(TD*6).

Has anyone ever done a statistical deep dive into how much a TE is worth relative to a WR, given the position scarcity?

As an example, obviously D. Thomas' 227-pt season (1430/14) is less valuable than Graham's 218-pt season (1215/16) due to TE's don't put up those kind of #'s.

In my mind, as an estimate, thinking the average WR scores at about a 25% higher clip than a TE, re: a 1000/8 WR seems about equal to an 8006 TE.

I got thinking about this, trying to compare the relative value of Jordy Nelson and Julius Thomas.

Thanks!

This isn't unique to WR/TE. How do you compare the relative value of Jordy Nelson and Drew Brees? I think most people use some variant of Value Based Drafting (VBD) to answer these questions.

You already hinted at this in your post with your Thomas and Graham example. Why was Geaham more valuable than Thomas despite scoring fewer points? Because the gap between him and other TEs was wider than the gap between Thomas and other WRs.

VBD attempts to quantify this by scaling raw fantasy points to a baseline so you can compare values across positions. I'm typing on a phone and there's been volumes written about VBD so I won't get into specifics but a search of this forum or on Google should result in plenty of explanations if you're unfamiliar with the concept.
