WR Wes Welker's Value Post-Moss (1 Viewer)

I did a little bit of searching, and couldn't fin any discussion on this, so I thought it deserved its own thread.

What do Welker owner's think? As a Pats fan and owner, half of me is worried, half of me is intrigued. Moss definitely helped lift coverages and opened the slot and mid-field for Welker to get open, so that is where I am now worried. But, while Moss didn't have a catch in their last game, other WR's will now have more of an opportunity, going forward, for increased production (if the offense can sustain their previous successes). So, Welker may receive even more looks now.

I am also wondering how the possible acquisition of SEA Branch or another WR could affect all of this....

This is my opinion only, but Welker is hurt by the Moss trade, not helped by it.Welker was benefited by Moss in several ways:1) Moss almost ALWAYS took the opponent's #1 CB; obviously this won't be the case anymore. It would be reasonable to assume that any #1 CBs who stay on 1 WR will be locked on Welker now.2) Moss ran A LOT of deep routes, and often demanded double coverage. This opened up many of the short, intermediate, and underneath routes that Welker excels at. Without Moss there, those routes won't be nearly as easy as they have been in the past.3) Brady went to Welker often, because he was the open man. He was the open man, in large part, due to the attention that Moss drew. Now that Welker appears to be the #1 receiving threat, it is reasonable to assume that he will draw that attention. As we have seen, Brady will not often force throws to covered receivers; he'll merely move on to his next option.I think Welker's #s are going to take a hit, now that Moss is gone.

I would assume that he will take a hit. It is possible that he will still score you solid points in fantasy. The guy does get open no matter what it seems. I would assume Brady will look his way alot still. Teams find a way to get recievers open by moving them around.

I might still try and deal him if I can find a buyer at the right price.

I think Welker's value drops just slightly.

Tate can stretch the defense, but until he gets hot, he's not covered by the #1DB.

Welker is shifty and will get a number of looks and balls. I think it just goes down

slightly because now he's got to get free from the#1DB. He does catch a lot of quick passes

and I think that will continue. He's just not going to get open as easily and will need to work that much harder.

Overall, he's my #2 WR and I think he stays that way.

I had Welker and was worried about him being held in check (non PPR league) with no legit deep threat demanding double teams, etc (remember Wrs before Moss came for NE...there really wasn't a startable WR). interestingly enough the Randy Moss owner offered him for Welker and I took it quickly.

obviously that guy thought Welker would benefit.

I also have Hernandez as my backup TE (really think he will be starting for him in a couple weeks as I thinkt he TEs get a huge bump in the loss of Moss)
