WR Willie Reid, Pittsburgh Steelers (1 Viewer)

Madden Freak
Given Santonio Holmes' manifest woes, Willie Reid is looking like an intriguing prospect.

If Holmes doesn't pan out, then Reid is suddenly a major contender to start opposite Ward.

The only guy he has to beat out is Cedrick Wilson, who didn't cover himself in glory last season.

He's just the kind of explosive, fast big play guy who could be worth a spot on your dynasty team. Not necessarily for this year, but for a year or two down the road.

NFL.com draft profile

Reid really made an impact as a receiver and returner his senior season. He is a very quick, elusive and explosive receiver who consistently makes big plays when he had the ball in the open field -- his vision and instincts help him find holes and he can explode through those holes to make big plays. He is a tough receiver who consistently has shown the willingness to catch passes in traffic without peeking/flinching, takes very hard hits and holds onto the ball. He runs sharp routes and consistently bursts out of cuts to get separation from defenders and has the hands to make the great catch consistently. He is smaller than ideal, but he plays tough and does not hesitate to run aggressively with the ball in the open field -- he consistently gets started upfield quickly and attacks the hole/crack. He is a receiver that will probably be drafted lower than he is rated, but in time he will prove the grade to be right. He can be a good starting receiver who can make plays once he has the ball in his hands and will be a dangerous punt returner early in his career.

Wilson already has this job locked up. Nate Washington will likely be the #3 until Holmes is ready for that job. Reid is at best the #5 guy there this year, and looks unlikely to break into the top 3 by 2008.

You are already moving Reid past last year's darling Nate Washington, veteran Quincy Morgan and 1st rounder Santonio Holmes? I'd be suprised to see Willie Reid on the field in any capacity beyond special teams this year. The Steelers WR core is as deep as it's been in recent memory with Ward, Wilson, Holmes, Washington, Morgan and Reid.

While I agree Wilson is probably the #2 I think Holmes, Quincy Morgan and Nate Washington will battle it out for the 3-5 spots.

I did say IF Holmes doesn't pan out - clearly he's still the favorite despite all his woes.

Still, I like Reid's chances against Wilson, Washington or Morgan. Not immediately, but a year or two down the line. I don't think Wilson or Morgan are ever going to be more than mediocre, and Washington is very much an enigma.

Converted RB. Fast and has great vision but I think he's too small to make an impact at WR. He was only really able to run short to intermediate routes at FSU.

I'm with you here. This guy is flying way under the radar right now. I know he's primarily viewed as a return man, but I'm pretty sure that's what people said about Steve Smith. Reid offers great value in large dynasty leagues. He was a first day pick and no one seems to have noticed. He's still raw as a receiver, but he's a hard worker and he started to emerge as a pass catcher near the end of his days at FSU. The upside seems limited as the WR2-3 in Pitt, but he's worth a look as a long-term hold.

Thanks for the analysis. Seems to me like he'll be an ideal slot receiver in spread sets - a guy who can raoast an LB or safety over the middle and make things happen after the catch.
